  1. I finally got around to loading some at 3.4gr of 572. I'll put them over the Chrono in the next day or two and post the results. If I get them to average 780-800fps, that'll be about perfect for my needs. So far 572 has been a very soft shooting and clean burning powder for me. It should be fun to try it with some other calibers too.
  2. Today I ran some rounds over the chrono. I fired two groups of ten. The first averaged 754fps and the second was 760fps. There were no FTE's or unburned powder residue. The slide locked back on empty each time. It looks like I'm on the right track for a nice bunny fart load using this powder. Another tenth or two should do it. The best part is that the gun runs bone stock with no changes.
  3. Good Afternoon All, I picked up some Winchester 572 to try with some Xtreme 165gr bullets. These are for IDPA and USPSA using my VP9. There's absolutely no data for these (165gr pills) so I started low and loaded long to 1.17". 3.0 to 3.1gr is where the slide started locking back. I added another tenth to 3.2gr and got 100 percent function with 20 test rounds. I'll get the Chrono out tomorrow and see where I'm at velocity wise. Other than that, this stuff meters great through my 550 and is probably a bit safer than my Clays experiments.
  4. I decided to be the crazy one and try it. Or at least the only dummy to admit to it. I loaded 2.8gr under Xtreme 165's with an OAL of 1.155". They were some of the softest shooting rounds I've ever fired. I only loaded 15 but I'll make some more and send them over the Chrono later in the week. I'm guessing they'll make 128-130PF. Below is a pic of some the brass from those loads. I don't see any pressure signs but please tell me if I'm wrong. It was 65 degrees outside when those were fired from my VP9. When you see pressure signs on 9mm, it already over max pressure. I have loaded the Xtreme 165s into the +P range and there were no pressure signs. Why is it that reloaders think that they can see pressure signs in (basically) low pressure handgun rounds!!?? Where did that come from? The 9mm operates at 30,000- 35,000 psi pretty much. Pressure signs don't start to show until 2x that. Yet folks talk about looking for pressure signs. Without a pressure barrel there are no indicators at 35k psi. Well Sir, I obviously don't know everything...it's one of the main reasons I come here. I saw several people here and on other forums recommend using N310. I thought that was interesting as N310 is even hotter burning than Clays. Whether they're right, wrong or otherwise, I hardly think 2.7-2.8gr of Clays loaded long is a big deal. I never told anyone to try anything, just posted some findings I found interesting.

  6. I've never owned a vest for the 3 years that I've been shooting IDPA. I prefer to wear a very close fitting pancake kydex rig at 4:00 with a t-shirt or sweat shirt instead of the vest. I'm think I was the only one (I did place 4th CDP SS) at the WA IDPA match this past summer competing this way. I'm odd anyway though, I ran an HK45 for the match...another IDPA anomaly. The pics below are of the type of rig I run and one of me running the wobbly bridge stage at the WA State Match this past summer...no vest. Find what works and enjoy, it's just a game, right???...lol
  7. I shoot the HK P30LS in 9mm. I shoot in IDPA SSP (Master), USPSA production (Master) and 3 gun. I like the P30LS because it allows me double action start for SSP and Production but cocked and locked for 3 gun. The P30 is very accurate which I would give most the credit to the great ergonomics of the grip. I shoot the stock P30 just as good as my Glock 17 which is heavily modified. I do not have any experience with any of the Experts. Although I do have the HK MR556 Competition Rifle on the way and will be giving a review as soon as I get it. Thanks, Adam Good Morning, I tried looking you up on the IDPA page but could not find your name listed. I wanted to see your classifier times. Are you no longer a member? Thanks, Matt
  8. There are lots of ".40 lite" recipes in the reloading section but if you need a couple, just send me a PM.
  9. I tried it, but all it did was make me retain water and elevate my red blood cell count. Ditched the therapy after 6 months and actually feel better. Having your red blood cell count climb above 50 shows you may have been at too high of dosage to begin with. It does take time to get dialed in and it definately isn't for everybody though. I had a little water retention in the beginning but that went away when I increased my water intake to 3/4 gallon per day. It's very important to keep hydrated no matter what. That was/is also a big part of my weight loss.
  10. Just in case you were still looking for Clays, a store called Lohman Arms in Texas has been getting Alliant ClayDot in every couple of weeks. I scored 10lbs a few weeks back.
  11. I know after a big match that I need to take a week or so off and not think about shooting. I do a sort of self evaluation taking into account how hard I'd worked before the match and how well I'd placed at the match. Amazing how much one depends on the other, lol. Finally and probably most importantly, I always have a goal or idea in mind for what's next.
  12. Im down 60lbs from March of last year. Life, family and even shooting all doing great now. I woke up March 9, 2014 and looked in the mirror. I was disgusted with myself and the transformation began. By September, I'd lost just over 70lbs but instead of feeling great, I was feeling as lethargic and moody as ever. When I began everything, I'd asked my Dr. to check my testosterone levels and she said I was probably fine and at my age (almost 42 now) and I most likely don't have any issues. Well, fast forward several months and this time I insisted on the testosterone bloodwork. I was right, she was wrong. My blood testosterone was just over 200n/dl or for those unfamiliar, that's well below the low end. The normal scale can differ slightly but it usually between 250-1100n/dl. The normal low end would represent a very senior man while the high end would be a teenager. My Dr. was astounded that I'd list the weight I did while having such low "T". I went on "the Program" that day and haven't looked back. Of course, TRT isn't for everyone but it's been great for me. It takes a couple of months to get dialed in but once you do, your a very happy man?. Long story short is to make sure you listen (especially as you get older) to your body and always have your COMPLETE bloodwork done at least yearly. In case your wondering TRT won't make you a body builder but it does have a ton of other benefits including increased muscle mass, lower body fat, increased mental clarity and one side effect that need not be mentioned here. Sounds like a commercial I know but I'm enjoying it...and so is the wife, lol.
  13. 150 yards on a regular clay pigeon we had taped to a target. It was with my duty issue P2000 in .40. I hit it on the second shot and quit for the day, lol.
  14. We're going to disagree on that. I absolutely can't stand the HK magazine release. IMO, it is ergonomically horrid. I will agree that it's different but I've been carrying an HK for ten years now as a duty gun so the mag release is just second nature now. It's definately just as fast as anything else out there, just have to practice.
  15. I'm sure you'll see that many of the sellers here have things priced to move as they usually have another project in mind. That being said the buyers are just as quick when they see a good deal. Sometimes you just got to jump on it.
  16. Oakley with the G26 lenses work great for my partial red/green color issues, lol. Orange and yellow clays stand out great against differing back drops.
  17. If it's a dual purpose gun as you've stated, the Trijicon HD's are a great choice. I have them on several guns that I carry and compete with and couldn'tt be happier.
  18. I just picked up a VP9 a couple weeks back via trade. Great ergos, accurate, soft shooting and fits the box. It may not upset the striker fired world but I love my HK's so it's a keeper.

    Open class USP 9mm

I'm an HK whore who would love to see your creation. Go to tinypic.com and upload a pic then just cut and paste the address into the body of your post and the pic will appear. Matt
  20. After years of doing other things, I went back to swimming. I was a swimmer and water polo player from grade school through college. Without getting into stroke technique and other boring things, I think two aspects of my workout may help you. First get a set of Churchill fins (I like the old school blue and yellow, lol) and second a set of hand paddles(either hard or soft paddles, doesn't matter in the beginning). I do a lot of kick and pull sets that really help me stretch out and also build muscle w/out having to lift heavy weights. Also, cardio wise almost nothing beats out swimming. Some people think that training with either paddles and fins just makes it easier, WRONG. You'll get all the workout you need and more. If your interested in some details, please PM me and I'd be glad to help you with some ideas. Matt
  21. HK VP9, with a couple of extra mags, holster and mag carriers you'd be set for well under $900. The trigger and ergos are great right out of the box. Just add ammo and enjoy.
  22. I thought I'd throw out one of my new favorites, Clays under Rainier 135's. I recently picked up some Rainier 135's for experimenting. I found that 4.5gr of Clays under these Rainier 135's makes for a fun minor load that runs all my production guns w/out changing any springs. They shoot soft and are very clean burning with no pressure issues whatsoever. I run them at 1.135 for my production guns but I'm sure you could load them longer with no issues (or maybe change your recoil spring which you may have already done). Almost forgot, they chronoed on average at 985fps through my HK Expert and just a little slower through my P2000.
  23. I just purchased 500 rounds of Freedom Super Match a couple of weeks back and just had a chance run some today. My VP9 just loves the stuff, very clean and accurate. I ran several brands including: Freedom 115gr remanufactured, WWB 115gr/124gr, UMC 115gr and yes even some Tulammo 115gr. I could easily feel the difference with the Freedom Super Match being the softest shooting and most accurate. Just my .02 but I will definitely purchase some more for the WA State IDPA match later this year. I reload for everything but for bigger matches, why bother when stuff like this is available.

    Hk 45 vs others

I just picked an HK45 w/the LEM trigger. It was a used gun that has had the trigger worked over by Gray Guns. I've carried an LEM equipped P2000 for the last 9 years as my duty gun so I'm very familiar with the trigger. What surprised me was when I ran the HK against my STI VIP 2011 "game gun" in a local IDPA event. I wasn't just a little faster with the HK, stage for stage I was on average several seconds faster and fewer points down. I tried this same experiment last summer with my P30L and ended up being slower so I'd stuck with the 2011. The HK45 isn't all that much larger than the P30L but it sure is easier for me to push faster. I'm going to run the HK45 hard this year and have a blast doing so. I'll update this post with my classifier times next month.
