  1. That's what I do, right handed. I added a bit of skate tape to the blast shield where my thumb hits. I grip so high, though, that I had to cut off that pesky hammer spur, and there's no way to use (or reason for) an extended cylinder latch.
  2. Trojans cost the same regardless of caliber, I think. Should be able to get a new one with that price range.
  3. I had the same problem with 9mm Dillon dies and MG 124 JHPs. I think the Dillon seating plug (neither end) worked well with the nose profile of this bullet. I tried many adjustments, but a very high percentage of my ammo wouldn't pass the gauge due to crooked-seated bullets. In desperation, I stuck the seating die from my Hornady .380 die set in (leaving flare setting the same), and no more problem. I like Dillon dies, but in this case, not so much.
  4. Our winter season is actually best for the family, as the indoor range we shoot at has a viewing window close to the firing line. The stages are a little boring, but the kids don't need to wear the uncomfortable eye and ear protection and are close enough to see the action.
  5. Get her involved too. I have three under the age of 10. Often they all come to the local matches (I'm the match director). My wife shoots, and I have hopes for the 10 year old soon. I only allow myself at most one major match trip (sometimes more than one match per trip) a year, as time and finances don't allow more, but a few weekend trips to back-to-back matches in another city are possible a few times a year. Usually she stays home for those, but she's come a couple of times. Make sure they all know they come first, take care of the things you need to at home, and you get amazing flexibility. I have agreed to design/setup a stage for the 2014 Sectional in a city 500 miles away, and she's talking about making it a family trip and doing some serious practicing. I am so blessed.
  6. I had a guy at the biggest match in the state skip the "are you ready?" entirely. Went straight from make ready to standby. I corrected him, and he acted like I was being fussy. After all, all the GMs he usually shoots with prefer it that way. But he'd do it "just for me" (his words). Claimed to be a CRO but needs to look over the rule book a bit, I'd say.
  7. If they're back to back as this year, I'd only want to bring one load for both matches. Good ol' .45! Ammo is hard enough to fly with already.
  8. So why is the landing gear visible? I want to see those three tires flying through the air...
  9. then why is his belt completely empty? No reloads planned? That was a stage with all ammo staged on shelves, IIRC. I got my issue yesterday. Looks good.
  10. Haven't seen mine yet either. Looking forward to it.
  11. Once, I ran set up Pendulum and ran it a couple dozen times each with my SS rig and my Limited rig (CR Speed holster). The draw times to first shot were very close; I couldn't tell which was faster without doing the math. Stage times were a lot better with the 2011, but that's another matter. I doubt there's significant difference. I'm seriously considering trying to find a Bladetech DOH for a 6" 2011. Seems I'm always finding the most protruding steel prop and banging my front sight on it while resetting the stage, or worrying about the gun falling out of the holster when I should be thinking of other things.
  12. I dislike minor scoring. I would definitely leave revo division if I had to develop a minor load for my 625 (or shoot major loads with minor scoring); I shoot SS too and just use the same load for everything. However, I would continue to shoot it as much (little?) as I do against 8 shot minor if I get major. After all, I never really have any competition in revo division anyway.
  13. Looks like my gun's not legal anymore. Rather than buy another hammer I think I'll quit IDPA altogether. I have too many gunsmithing projects to redo one I am happy with.
  14. I bought my .40 used with an Aftec. Never had any issues and never replaced the springs. My SA 1911 .45 stock extractor has run perfectly for probably 15k rounds. Getting ready for Single Stack Nationals I figured I'd better have a spare handy, so I got a new Wilson stop and extractor. Both plugged right in with no fitting or tuning, and worked perfectly. I left them in and now have several thousand more rounds on them with zero issues. I find the Aftec to be more difficult to remove and replace, and doesn't seem to work any better.
  15. Google 1/3 scale USPSA target. Print one off. Adjust printer scale until it is 6" wide (or true 1/3 scale). Copy a bunch. Now, use them at 1/3 the distance; if the drill says 7 yards, set it at 7 feet.
  16. Okay, I was firmly in the no re-shoot camp until I looked up rule 9.7.4, and saw the "mutual consent" part I'd forgotten about. Now I think I'd go ahead and give the re-shoot. The RO CAN change a signed score sheet, if the competitor agrees.
  17. Looked over the range today. Stages look good (and muddy). Should be a good day tomorrow.
  18. 20 degrees and a couple more inches of the white "stuff". I hate digging my brass out of the snow, and especially dropping mags into it, but I gotta shoot today.
  19. I tried this today, in a snow storm kind of in a hurry. 8/12 on a 10" round steel plate with my 4" 625. I should really try it on paper to verify where POI is at that distance.
  20. Had to plow on May 1. Currently 25 and snowing again...
  21. Four more inches and still coming. I said I wouldn't plow again but I probably should.
  22. <<That's the way I read it. The rule book doesn't talk about size, shape etc. because it tells you there are only two legal paper targets. Period. Full standard size only. And no-shoots are targets.
  23. Three, currently. SS, Revo, Limited. May need one for production sometime soon, been just swapping out the revo belt.
  24. Will the strong mount raise the press too high to visually check the powder charge from a seated position? I know from experience the desk height is too low for loading from a standing position comfortably.
  25. Hmmm, I don't think my front sight was pinned in place but sometimes they do pin the FS in the dovetail. My SA 1911 front sight was.
