1. Well put Bob. Since it cannot be detected in the case I mentioned, but could be detected at say arms length, how is a competitor or SO to know when it really applies? Where is the threshold, the consistency, the fairness in asessing this? If the guy in front of you gets away with it, then are you supposed to just avoid to be a nice guy and do what is right? I am all for being a good sport, but I hate subjective calls. I can screw up enough on my own without having to worry about how it looks.
2. I have a like new VX-III 1.5-5 matte finish duplex reticle that is in your price range if you are interested. I am using the Accupoint exclusively and this is too nice for someone not to get the use of it. PM me if you are interested. You cannot go wrong with either of the scopes you mentioned, especially for the price.
3. OK, let me try to ask a question with civility. When there is a pair of 15 yard targets partially obscured by barrels in a COF and I fire the extra shot that puts me conveniently at slide lock between targets, and the hits are two down zero and one -3 near the edge, how exactly do you determine if I called the -3 as a miss and quickly shot again, or if I "cheated" on a Vickers count COF? This is not rhetorical, please someone try to answer. The only way I see to prohibit this is to make everything Limited Vickers. I guess the thing that escapes me is how one shooter may need the shot, and another may not, and how an SO with less speed and talent can tell the difference?
4. OK, not sure why anyone would charge that much unless they aren't thinking. We charge $30 friend or foe, stranger or relative, and we are glad to do them. When I was the sales manager at a high-end retail gun store, we charged $25, and were happy to do them. In todays environment I would rather do the transfer on a Glock or M&P than sell it, because the profit is the same as the transfer with no investment. Further, if you have the transferee in your store, and you sell ammo, holsters, accessories, and he just got a new gun, that is an opportunity. It also involves a good deal of goodwill and that never hurt anyone either. SO, if the dealer won't do it for $25-$35, then find one who will.
5. If you are only basing it on classifiers, the pros seldom shoot classifiers or monthly matches, just major matches. Many shoot several different sports. A lot of pros are busy training both in the US and overseas as well. Some have taken real world jobs that are a little more demanding. There has always been a cycle to who is on top, and to who shows up. Who is missing, maybe we need to form a posse and go out looking for them.
6. I have used nothing but Zero for the past 10 years, they are the best IMO.
7. I can only speak to my experience with this, and there are many differing opinions, but I say NO. I switch platforms regularly, and you guessed it, 1911 to Glock and back. I also shoot other guns like revolvers, .22s, M&P, and of course 2011, and I never have an issue with performance and familiarity. I always thought this was because it forced focus, you know, the trick of the day. I know both beginner and accomplished shooters that cannot do this, so I suppose some are more sensitive to it than others. There is even sometimes a lift in performance when returning to one platform or another. My opinion is that it is all aligning the sights and pressing the trigger. Holster cant, grip angle, trigger pull, and sights are not as much of an issue as everyone thinks they are. You will utlimately have to decide for yourself whether it affects your performance or not, and it likely makes a difference if you are properly shooting the current gun or not, bad habits may amplify themselves accross platforms.
8. He has 10 feet above everyone else, 6 if he is lazy, likely to be in the olympics winning gold until he is 40, simply amazing, even if you don't like snow boarding, this kid is impressive.
9. Also, accuracy is not improved by barrel length alone, but more so by chamber and crown. Velocity is highest on a 20" but all of the lengths discussed make minor power factor with factory 55 and 62 grain ammo.
10. There are two popular options on this and both are correct and suitable. First, it is more important what gas sysem you have than the actual length of the barrel. The two most popular for competition are 17" or 18" with 12" rifle length gas systems. That setup responds favorably to reduced gas through adjustable gas blocks. The second option is 16" with 9" mid-length gas systems. This system is softer than the violent impulse of a 7" carbine length gas system, and allows a 16" barrel. I have spent time with all of the above systems, and know the softest, flatest, and fastest to be 18" rifle gas or 16" mid gas.
11. Guys, this thing is nice, there is nothing else like it, it has the best features from all other race holsters, and some unique ones as well. The ability to change the block will save shooters who switch platforms some money in the long run, but it will be a while before all the blocks are available. I played with it at SHOT a couple of times, and I am thoroughly impressed. Look for it to arrive in April.
12. Yesterday I put a JP 12 O'clock rail and Troy sights on Kirby's rifle, and we all want to do one for ourselves now, it really turned out nice!
13. The STI's are now $1195.67 shipped, and a lot of rifle for the money. JP trigger, Nordic Comp, Free Float handguard, Mid length gas system. Pretty much the essentials for competition. You can always add your own touches too. I got one for my son, and it is really easy to shoot and flat. Just add your optic or sights and go to work.
14. UPDATE, the Firebird M4-LE has a commercial tube. I tried a mil-spec CTR on it this morning, and no go. So Kirby, you will either need a commercial stock, or the whole kit.
15. Fomeister, do I need to order the SOPMOD complete kit or just the buttstock to go on the Firebird...thx, Kirby Kirby, I will check on Monday to see if the tube is milspec, if so then you just need the stock. If Jim is still lurking around here, maybe he can tell us if it is milspec or commercial.
16.
Is there any area of your slide to the rear of the breach face that isn't machined or obscured by the scope mount?

17. I just looked at the two in my parts box, and they have a prominent thumbledge on the left side for a right handed shooter. Kind of odd, I rest my thumb on the safety all the time.
18. Simply put all three guns will fulfill your needs. While I understand the motivation behind your question, in general it is probably the most asked yet completely useless question asked on gun forums. We all want to know is x brand better than y brand of gun/scope/magazine/car/truck/computer etc etc. However there are so very few examples of individuals who have the opportunity to: 1) Use an example of each gun listed 2) Spend enough time using it for the comparison to be relevant. In this case even if someone had run each of the three examples for 1000 rds each it really doesn't give enough info to differentiate the platforms. 3) If they have actually had the opportunity to run each example enough (lets say 10k rds) then they are in such a small population of experience that their results will simply be anecdotal. Most of the replies you may at best offer a biased view of one owners experience mixed with a huge amount of anecdotal opinion gained by word of mouth. Secondly, what is your definition of "tits up"??? Is it an extractor hook that breaks off, and needs to be replaced? In that case I can't think of anyone claiming that this can be prevented. It happens. Or are you talking a catastrophic bolt failure? In that case you are most likely looking at a manufacturing problem at the parts level and not a problem at any of the above mentioned builder's level. Each of the three gun listed is built from quality parts by reputable manufacturers. There may be a feature that has a pro/con for your particular needs, but from a quality/reliability standpoint all three should easily be up to the task of completing a class. Personally, I like being able to have an easy line to service of the guns I choose. My bias is definitely towards Jim as I have been lucky enough to spend time with the man and I know his every effort will be to produce a quality product out of the gate. If service should be needed I also know that his response will be more than prompt and far and above what it would take to remedy the situation. Good luck, Craig Well said Craig.

20. Please don't mistake my response as being smartalec, I'm really curious as I never knew that about STI. Who would it be that builds the STI AR-15s & how can someone call him? Having the resource of availability is worth a lot to me, not that I would buy anything but a firebird, however, a good company with good service is very important. Guess I'll never be able to make a statement like the one above again. MLM Look, I love Jim too, and his rifles are awesome. I guess since I am on a first name basis with the guys at STI, I take it for granted a little. I recommend them to my friends/customers a lot, and they always get total satisfaction. It isn't the type of company where you can't talk to the folks that work there. That said, Jim and Nanci always answer their own phone. I suppose I should have been more specific. You cannot go wrong with any of the 3 rifles you mentioned. If I were buying a fighting gun, the LMT is pretty damn tough. If I wanted to compete and use it as a protection gun, Jim's M4LE is hard to beat, and I keep them in stock at SC. If you want a few more features for competition like mid-length gas, free-float handguard, JP trigger, and Nordic Comp, then the STI is competition ready at a pretty low price, and I have those too.
21. Since I have one of each, and sell two of the three, I have to say Firebird and STI because the features for the price make sense, they both support the sport, and you can talk to the guy who built either one every day.
