  1. Interested in your feedback as I heard similar comments before about the P09. A shooter I met at a match even claimed in his hands the gun was easier to stabilize (and displayed a more consitent return to target) than his Shadow (!?). Have you found the p09 as soft shooting as, say, an all metal CZ or simply a bit better than other polymer guns? I became interested in the CZ P09 after reading countless reviews about how soft shooting they were but also how mechanically accurate they are right out of the box. The slide rides down in the frame and seems to give more of a straight push back in the hand with less muzzle rise than say my XDM 5.25 with a higher bore axis that has more flip to it. The first time I shot a P09 it was after shooting my XDM, using some of my fairly soft shooting 147gr handloads, and it caught me a bit off guard. For a split second I thought I might of had a squib load, there was almost no felt recoil and the muzzle barely moved. It convinced me I needed a P09, but I ended up buying one in .40 caliber. Its my only .40 cal gun so I cant say if it shoots softer than a typical .40 but with some downloaded .40 reloads at about a 150 PF its not much different than shooting my XDM with some warm 9mm loads. Havent put as many rounds through it as I would like to but so far its been 100% reliable and very accurate also.
  2. I just chrono'ed some 147 gr acme coated FP bullets yesterday over 3.7gr of 7625. Averaged 959 FPS/140 PF out of my XDM 5.25. Good accuracy, soft and clean. I usually load 147gr lead at 3.4 gr of 7625, that usually averages right at a 130 PF. Plated bullets usually load pretty similar to lead.
  3. Take a look at the CZ P09 in 9mm. Its a full size polymer pistol so its fairly light weight if thats an issue for your wrist but it soaks up recoil like a full size gun. The first time I ever shot one I could not believe how soft it was to shoot. It is also about the most accurate gun on the market straight out of the box. And yes they are totally reliable.
  4. Out of my XDM 5.25 the Precision Delta 124 JHP and Hornady HAP 125 JHP give me the best accuracy. Out of my gun they shoot the same size groups from a rest out to 25 yds., which is under 2". The Precision Delta is way cheaper though if you order at least 2k.
  5. There was a guy on the Smith and Wesson forum tha was 3D printing plugs and selling a little kit that replaced the safety levers a while back. If memory serves it was about $20 and looked pretty slick when installed. You may want to look around there and see if he is still doing it. smith-wessonforum.com is the site.
  6. As a reference I just loaded 4.1 gr of titegroup under a 165 plated flat nose at 1.125 and averaged 886 FPS~146 PF out of my CZ P09. Was pretty accurate and plenty of function with stock springs. You could probably start lower.
  7. +1. Out of my XDM 5.25 this load is so soft it tickles. Only difference is I use federal primers. OAL is around 1.145 if I remember correctly.
  8. 3.0 gr of bullseye is a nice shooting load out of my XDM 5.25 with about any 147 gr projectile. If you can find some titegroup about 3.0 gr of it does well too.
  9. So I decided to give acme a try, placed an order Monday and they came in today, not too bad especially from WI to NC. Their website states they can ship up to 3 sample boxes in the same package for $6 so I figure great, I will try the 9, 40, and 45's. When I went to check out the shipping jumped to $14, so I back it down to just the 9 and 40's and the shipping goes back to $6 so I place the order, no sense in paying more than double in shipping for a 100 round sample box. This is what came in my package today: Now Im scratching my head wondering what the third box holds so I open them up and find this: Now thats a nice touch with the candy and the "1 for luck" but wouldnt it make more sense to sell me the other sample pack for the same shipping rate instead of losing that and then giving me a box of candy? Maybe its just a temporary programming error, no big deal either way as the 9 and 40's were what I was mainly interested in anyway. By the way the acme boxes they ship in have kind of a charred wood smell to them, reminds me of being in an old small town general store with a woodburning stove in the corner. The coating on them is very nice but honestly doesnt seem any thicker or more uniform than my current favorite coated bullet from Ibejiheads. The real test will be in how they shoot. If their metallurgy really is that much better and they are superior to the rest I will be happy to buy from them in bulk. I hope they eventually offer their coating on their full line as my CZ P09 seems to like lighter .40 cal bullets better. Oh yea, the enos5 discount worked for me.
  10. Mine was pretty much zeroed when I got it, and I haven't had much need to change it. It's been so long I don't remember but I believe a couple clicks up or down for elevation, windage was spot on. I've got no complaints.
  11. Very little discount if any as far as I can tell. I just bought some stuff there recently and inquired about the "BENOS" discount. Was told that if I agreed to be put on their email solicitation list they would set me up on the discount program, which I did. Was told no action on my part was needed to obtain any discount offered, just sign up and the discount would automatically be calculated when I logged in to my account on their website. Unfortunately nothing I bought had any discounts available. That being said I sent two emails to them and was responded to very promptly on both. I was told upfront many things they sell have such low margins they cant/dont discount them. I placed my order about 10 mins before the shipping cutoff for that day, got a notice of my order being shipped about 45 mins later, and had my order in hand in two days. Cant argue with that. I will definately give them a shot at my future business, maybe next time I can get a discount too.
  12. Between those two I would go with titegroup. Its not position sensitive (Im not sure about 231) so downloading a 147gr it will still be pretty consistent. To me, titegroup shoots softer than 231 anyway.
  13. I generally like to use .357 sized bullets in my 5.25 if possible but have some very accurate loads with .356 also. The only way to determine the accuracy of a load is to take the human element out of it as much as possible. When I'm testing the accuracy of a load I do it from 25yds with arms and gun supported with some kind of a rest. 7 yds offhand won't tell you much.
  14. I run a PRP drop in trigger kit in my XDM 5.25, using the competition springs the trigger breaks about the 3lb range. I have never had any experience with the competition trigger kit but I dont see how it could be much better than what I have. The drop in kit has little take up, a pretty crisp break, and no overtravel. Im sure the arguement could be made about how the more expensive kits are better but I dont honestly think there would be enough difference to improve the average guys IDPA score. I shoot my XDM in steel challenge, IDPA, and NRA Action pistol matches and can safely say the trigger is not holding me back any. Its super easy to install, I would recommend doing it yourself before spending the money to ship it off. If nothing else a local gunsmith could probably do it while you wait and save you some money. I run a stainless guide rod in mine for a little more weight up front, again not sure if it helps enough to make any difference but its cheap enough and I like it. I do have a set of PRP sandpaper grip tape on mine, it really helps a lot on hot, sweaty summer days, mine has been in place for at least 3 yrs now and hasnt moved. Its getting a little worn looking but still has plenty of traction. I highly reccomend. I run nothing but my handloads through mine with whatever the cheapest primers I can get are and it never fails to go boom so not sure what a polished striker is going to do for you. Again Im sure somebody can give you some more technical reasons why its a great thing to have but in the real world I havent seen a need, and I shoot mine, a lot. I usually shoot 2-3 matches a month plus practice plus load development work so mine gets a lot of rounds put through it. I did however replace the striker retainer pin with the PRP extra heavy duty ones as I do a lot of dryfire also, and its just super cheap insurance. I dont think you can do much better than the stock sights. Some folks like to change the front blade out to thinner or thicker, its just personal preference but again I dont see this making much difference to the average shooter. I believe the theory is thinner helps with faster target acquisition and thicker is better for accuracy, but I need both and have found the stock front sight just fine. DO NOT polish the feed ramp. It comes from the factory polished, it works perfectly and feeds everything perfectly, nothing to gain here. I run mostly semi-wadcutters in matches since they cut nice big holes in paper, and I never have a misfeed. I can run tiny 100gr Ibejihead semi-wadcutters up to big fat 150gr Bayou semi-wadcutters and everything in between, nothing fails to feed. My XDM will even cycle empty brass cases. I guess what Im saying is dont mess with the feed ramp.
  15. thebluebullets.com has 147gr RN no lube groove bullets.
  16. You might want to call lucky13 cast bullets. I would think they would do something for a large order like that, and their zombie green coated bullets are as good as anything I've used.
  17. I average a 129 PF with 3.0 Bullseye and a 147gr coated RN at 1.135-1.140 OAL, out of an XDM 5.25 so you should be real close. It takes about 3.5gr of 7625 to average the same numbers. In this particular load I'm equally happy using Titegroup, Bullseye, or 7625. Very similar feel and accuracy out of all three.
  18. Who makes a 147 coated round nose? Thanks The blue bullets has a coated 147 gr RN with no lube groove, lucky13 has a 147gr RN, and Ibejiheads has a 145gr RN to name a few.Thanks. What OAL are you using with your 147's. Going to try Bullseye with 147's myself. 1.135 OAL, up to 1.145 with some loads.
  19. If you are asking me, my results were as follows: 3.0gr Solo 1000, 1.169 OAL, 838 ave FPS-134 PF, 12.3 SD Also shot from an XDM 5.25 Just didnt group as good as the Bullseye or Titegroup. This has been a pretty limited test though, 4 different powders and only 100 "test subjects" so I wouldnt say anything is conclusive at this point. Heck, I just threw in the 100 sample pack while I was placing a larger order for something else almost as an afterthought, but some of the recent threads regarding 160gr 9mm loads got me curious. At this point Im not sure there is enough benefit over 147gr but I will know after I get into the extreme's.
  20. Not exactly the same thing but I just shot through a 100 count sample pack of 160gr Ibejihead coated lead RN. For powder I tried Accurate #2, solo 1000, titegroup and bullseye. Got the best accuracy results from the bullseye load with the titegroup a close second. The jury is still out whether I like these enough to switch but they did interest me enough to get a 250 round sample pack from extreme to dive into them a little deeper. Best result was 2.7gr Bullseye, loaded to 1.169, ave 829 FPS-132 PF, 18.5 SD Very close second was 2.8 Titegroup, same OAL, ave 833 FPS-133 PF, 10.5 SD Looking forward to messing around with the Extremes next. Shooting out of a XDM 5.25
  21. Who makes a 147 coated round nose? Thanks The blue bullets has a coated 147 gr RN with no lube groove, lucky13 has a 147gr RN, and Ibejiheads has a 145gr RN to name a few.
  22. 1.135 is what I aim for. Very mild, accurate load.
  23. I average 130PF with 3.0gr of Bullseye under a 147 coated lead RN out of my XDM 5.25 so 3.2 ought to be real close for you.
  24. I run my XDM 5.25 pretty hard as I shoot 2-3 matches a month plus practice plus dry fire practice. If you do a lot of dryfire I would suggest getting one of the beefy striker retainer pins that Powder River sells. I put one in when I did my Powder River trigger kit and as solid as it is I cant see it ever breaking. I run a reduced power 14lb recoil spring and change it out as needed. The only other really important area that is often forgotten is the striker channel. Its amazing how much crap will accumulate in there and once its too dirty the gun aint gonna run til its cleaned (ask me how I know ).
  25. I came across this video or one like it a year or so ago and it's a great way to get your 9mm brass ready to load. No more sneaky .380's or military crimped brass getting into my stuff any more. I found .45 trays work a bit faster than .40's but both are good.
