  1. Okay I'm looking for a dedicated production 9mm gun. What's the hot ticket these days? edit: Also include your recommended barell length.
  2. You say that like we employees can control our work schedules Missed last year not gonna happen in 08.
  3. Thanks guys. Bill thanks for the load data as well.
  4. There's an idea to get one thinking. I would always need one with the bottom still intact for the range bag but maybe rig something up at home, even connected to a tube extension that runs to the catch bin. 41mag I use the homemade golf shaft demooner also but not with a grip on it. I use tape on the end when I want to retain the empties. Make sure to file or stone all the sharp edges smooth.
  5. Love it. Also bought one at the IRC last year, it felt so good I put it on the gun and use it in the competition.
  6. Yeah, that 15-18 yard range is a goofy one, and most of the targets seemed to hang out in it last year. They're close enough that they tempt you to treat them like close targets, but far enough that you really have to get after them like they're 20+ yard targets - better trigger control, etc... They're all "Classic" targets, too, so the A-zone presents in a slightly different place from the "Metric" target.... If you're not used to calling shots on them, you can get all goofed up that way, too... Nice post those targets give you a very different look. Really watch the A zone on those classic targets.
  7. Jim would you have a part number? I have one where the ball and spring decided to go their own way so I've been using the set screw. I think I'd like to go back to the ball and detent.
  8. Hard to say which is better. I have a KKM in a G35 and would do it again very happy with it.
  9. Not sure it was mentioned but the fiber optic needs to be tight. If it slides front to aft it will break easier from recoil so make sure the rod is tight when you melt the last end.
  10. Like XRe said last year cold, warm, wet and dry we had it all. I'd be hard pressed not to attend without long johns, gloves, a warm coat and rain gear. Then again it could be t-shirt weather. Ya jut never know what yer gonna get in FLA this time of the year Right now it doesn't look like I can make it this year, work is in the way I hope you all have a great time!
  11. Hey Ralph, sorry to burst your bubble but hes using the FMJ variety of bullets Oh well bubbles wern't meant to last forever. I'll be using the FMJ variety in the near future I'm sure. Zero is out to get us (JHP users).
  12. Darren Have patience. Youre on the right track. I'd suggest trying a 9 or 10lb Wolff spring first, next use a standard Winchester primer then try a lighter bullet. Now is the time to try different things. Once you find the right combo you won't want to change anything. And yes those primers are starting to show high pressure flowing signs! IF you find the lighter bullet works for you I'll gladly buy the rest of your 124JHP Zeros.
  13. [edit:That lighter bullet is most likely the issue. It's going to be snappier than a heavier one.] Sorry you did say you were using a 124 I thought it was a 115gr. I shot a 38super against my 9mm Major last week and they we almost identical. Both pretty soft and flat. 38 super 124JHP 7.4gr Vit powder 350?? 1.180"OAL Winchestaer SP primer vs my 9mm Major 124JHP Zero 8.3gr HS6 1.174OAL Winchester SP primer 170PF I don't have much experience with 38S but recoil is recoil. You need a solid grip, stance and correct springs. I use Wolff 9lb recoil. Your primers shouldn't be flowing. Are you over crimping the brass? Can you post a picture of a fired casing? That's a nice gun with plenty of porting it should be easy to set up. Try a regular pistol primer. Winchesters are harder than Federal and easier to come by.
  14. Do all current members get a copy of the new rule book? Nothing yet.
  15. Should have been done before hardchrome. If you cut through it now you'll have to refinish the gun. As an alternative put wings on it if you're just looking to prop the gun up on table starts. Bob makes such great guns you'll most likely never need a racker to clear a jam because his guns don't jam! edit: Just go shoot it forget the racker.
  16. Tough call Bedell or Brazos it's a tie for me. For Open I'll go with this one below. I've had numerous complinemts on the cuts and hard chrome.
  17. No MAYBE about it that's a hot setup...sign me up! S&W should be able to do it for $600-$700.
  18. I meet a shooter on Sat that had a Ti cylinder in his 627 V-Comp and it made quite a difference. The weight issue is it's a bit heavy for my taste but I can live with it. Just looking into options at the moment. *************** JohnRodriguez thanks for the info.
  19. You all make some very valid points. I own a 627-3 (pre lock) V-Comp. While I need to spend some time trying a 38 short colt load I'm not all that fond of the guns weight hence if going to a new platform my logic say why not a new gun? The 38 super is a short round and you don't have to deal with bullet jump of a 38SC in a 357. I'm not all that interested in sellingit in the future however used 38 Supers seem to hold their value. I may sell the V-comp to help finance the project should I decide to do this. I wanted to see if owners of 627 38Supers were happy with their guns first. Bill.."The 38 Super is a novel idea for IPSC shooters who need a 165+ PF. USPSA will only allow a .40+ cal to make major except for the .357, this excludes the revo in .38 Super." Wonder if the new rule book gets IPSC and USPSA on the same page.
  20. I did a search and didn't find what I needed. Can somebody fill me in on the 627 38 Super in terms of their accuracy and what is the preferred model dash number? I seem to recall there was a run of these guns (maybe the second run) that didn't shoot very well. Perhaps it's because a newer model can never be as good as an older model but then again maybe there is truth to this rumor . The only Super I've shot was a 627-4 if I remember correctly and from memory it was fine. I guess the 24ct question is a 627 38 Super more advantageous than a 627 38/357 (lets not start a war over this one)? It's basically a dedicated ICORE Open gun for me.
  21. I agree with spook the IonBond finish is awesome but I still say a blued finish will hold up great for many years. Get a blued wheelie shoot the crap out of it and it you decide to refinish it then do the IonBond thing.
  22. I've always liked blued revolvers but sometimes SS is the only choice. Either will work it really comes down to what you like but a blued revolver will last you a lifetime then some if you just give it a little attention along the way.
  23. I'm not far off from trying this myself. From my research you can wrap the grip in blue masking tape then put a 10 minute epoxy on the grip which gives you some time to work the shape. Do one side at a time. It can be removed and done permanently should you decide you like it. Too start with try building up the grip with play dough putty to get a feel for the size that might feel best to you. Seems that European shooters do this more frequently than do the Americans, perehaps they know something we don't.?! Rather than use skateboard tape that can shift and wear out mix some sand in with clear coat or colored paint for some grit. You can do one of those splatter custom paint jobs pretty eaisly as well. Keep in mind you still want a grip you can use for weak hand shooting.
