  1. Ordered belt and mag holders, took a couple weeks to get them. Not a problem on my end. I will say this---they are very responsive to emails. Good people.
  2. Happy Birthday Stuart! One of the nicest guys in the gun business.
  3. It has been a long time since I bought any mags for a 9mm AR, and was wondering what is the best and available out there now? Thanks much.
  4. I got one from Stuart, worked over at CZC...it is a great pistol. Also have a stock P09 and P07...and they haven't missed a beat. Eat any ammo, accurate, reliable...both will be big sellers. Caveat is: Convert the P09 to single action, and the thumb safety needs to be changed/improved. It can be hard to hit with the thumb at speed...it is so flat that the thumb just slides over it but does not disengage. Not like that beautiful thumb trigger on a 1911, or even close.
  5. That leaves you about $3,500-$4,500 to spend on ammo to practice with! Solid choice.
  6. Just ordered some things from Ben Stoeger Pro Shop and the service was awesome. I have had great experiences with Shooters Connection too, but Ben's place answered my email at 11pm last night...not many places do that:)

    P-09 trigger ?

I have a P07 and P09 that eerw (Stuart at CZC) has been so helpful in getting me hooked up with. I highly recommend you send him and email and see what they can do in your price range. Coming from a life of pulling on a 1911 trigger, these are clearly different. But the learning curve has been quick and I am getting comfortable with the DA/SA now. As an aside, both pistols are been incredibly accurate right out of the box. Good luck!
  8. I completely agree. I carry the ALS, and with just a little practice draw times don't suffer at all. It is a very secure and very fast holster.
  9. By now I think most people who own and shoot 1911's (and read articles about same on the internet) have read the opinions stated by Larry Vickers, Hilton Yam, and perhaps some other 1911 builders about how (and these are my words...not trying to quote other people) there are better daily carry / hard use pistols than the 1911...or at least other types of pistols they now carry daily. What are your opinions? Anyone carry a 1911-style pistol every day, work it hard every day, and care to relate what you have found on the issue of reliability---and keeping it reliable? Thanks, as a long-time 1911 nut, I look forward to your views...then I will share my own.
  10. I think some of the distributors must get a really big break on the complete guns. I'm going to buy one of the G19 Defender models next week. The Distributor had like 73 of them in stock........ Trace, you will really enjoy the G19 Defender. Mine has been completely reliable. It does have a huge mag release though, which can take some getting used to.
  11. Not sure I have much to add to the above other than I own both of the pistols you are looking at, and there is not a wrong decision to be made between them. Both will shoot anything I feed them, both are accurate to the extreme. Weight is quite a bit more with the 01-T, but it is well balanced. The only dislike I have on the P-09 is the single action thumb safety. Coming from years of 1911 thumb safety work, the CZ design just does not work for me...my thumb slides over the thumb safety without disengaging it...unless I am really, really deliberate with it. I wish the safety had more of a shelf to it to engage the thumb. So, I shoot the P-09 DA/SA. My P-09 was built through CZ Custom and they did outstanding work. As for decocking, just practice and you will find your own way. Always keep barrel pointed in safe direction, then experiment. Good luck.
  12. I am interested. Don't own a Czechmate yet...but will.
  13. At the price, a P09 is a hard piece to pass up. I suggest buying one, shooting it like crazy, then deciding where you want to go with it. The CZ metal guns are great as well, but the 07 and 09 are just at an awesome price point...and they will shoot any ammo you can make fit in the mag (my experience).

    P09 Safety

The P09 is a great pistol. I put one through the paces today and found it to be extremely accurate, quick, and 100% reliable in about 500-600 rounds of mixed brands / bullet weights, including handloads. The one issue, and it is a big one for me, is coming from a 1911/2011 platform, I find disengaging the thumb safety is very difficult at speed. Shooting hand thumb comes down over the back end of the thumb safety (which, of course, does not and will not engage it), but the front end of thumb safety seems rather smooth and lying very flat to the frame. Does anyone sell a wider safety, so that I can get more safety under more thumb?? Other ideas? Thanks

They look great. Please post up when they are in and ready to buy!
  16. Don't get hung up on the "natural ability" thing…as that might be an incorrect term…but anyone who has competing against or trained with top level pro (fill in blank) will tell you: They are different. Their fast-twitch is just a little faster than our fast-twitch; their "seeing" (and I am not talking about vision scores) sees just a little different than ours; then we get to the intangible part that champs all have…they are different. Practice? No doubt their practice is important, but I am not convinced that is a determining factor between "them" and me. Once upon a time I played lots of racquetball. In my life I have been blessed to watch Marty Hogan play, and just a couple years ago Kane Waselenchuk. Dominant, dominant champs. When I watched Waselenchuk play he rolled over the competition, and ultimately destroyed the #2 player in the world as if #2 was #102…and #2 was awesome. No way #1 just practiced more, or better, than #2. Same is true of other sports I have been around…the best are just different. Hard to explain but I have given up trying to figure it out….now I just enjoy watching the best do their thing:)

Patrick I really enjoy your video reviews.
  18. Any chance you could trim a few to fit the P07? If so, I will order 3. Thanks!
  19. Frank is one of the old-school, real-deal, honest-to-goodness pistolsmiths. Have fun with that pistol, and think real hard before you decide to sell it.
  20. Figured I would wake this thread up after a 10 year nap:) It appears "The Burner" is still shooting the EoTech??
  21. I have shot the 10mm loaded about every way it can be loaded, from heavy hard-cast bullets to lwt screamers, in any gun built to shoot it. I believe it is one of the most versatile pistol calibers in existence. My opinion on all of this? If I was writing the check and I wanted SVI to build it, I would call SVI and turn them loose with a budget. I look at it this way: If I knew how to build a better pistol than SVI, I would build it. Since I can't, why would I pick and choose parts and pieces and then tell a master smith to put them together? Part of the genius I expect to get when spending $4,000-$5,000 on a gun is the genius that is gained by a master smith from the 1,000 or 5,000 guns he built before mine. "I need a single stack 10mm, fiber optic front, black hard-use back sight that will easily grab a belt, or pocket, or board if I need it to, bushing barrel...as light as you can make it and be 100% reliable, under $x,xxx.xx (your budget)". In other words, my phone call to SVI would be expensive, but only about 5 minutes long:) Good luck and have fun!
  22. Wise choice on the 9mm. With the ammo choices available today that caliber will do anything the .40 will do...with the exception of allow you to shoot major in single stack competitions (that you don't plan to enter anyway). Do what you want because you work hard for the money you are spending, but if it was me I would use the cost of a .40 to buy more ammo and mags for that fine pistol.
  23. I have an STI Trojan + Tripp mags, runs fine. In a custom-built pistol there would be several things to change, but hey, for the money? Great pistol, great mags.
  24. Have never used Bag Balm on guns, but I can tell you---it is true miracle stuff. I have had hunting dogs chewed up, calves torn up by feral dogs, etc., and the stuff just flat heals them. Best to ignore the instructions and just grab a fistful of it and slather it in, on and all around the cut/wound. Really, it is great great stuff.
