  1. rhino I agree. the product is excellent and my dealings with Dave have always been first rate. it is bizarre, from past experience.
  2. I ordered a couple of holsters from Dave in September, have emailed for progress reports several times since...but no word. Has anyone received anything from him in the last few months? Thanks much, Bruce
  3. I have had revolver work done by Benny Hill and Tom Kilhoffer. Both are great guys, excellent gunsmiths, and quick in the turn-around time. I think both are posters here, I know Benny is. Good luck.
  4. If you were the gun which owner would you rather have---one that put a box of shells through you and stuffed you in some old sock drawer for the next 25 years, only to be pawed at occasionally by the grandkids----OR, a dude that put down the green, gets you in shape and takes you racing every weekend!? If you like the pistol and want the pistol, buy the pistol. It has probably been waiting all these years for a guy like you to take it out and let it run. I say put $400 on the table and get yourself a new shooting iron!
  5. Stu: My dealer buddy just got a call on mine today, ordered through Lew Horton months ago. It is in. They had 3 left.
  6. Patrick: I agree with your list of 'musts'. Have followed the debate back and forth on 6 loaded / 6 fired, and find it somewhat amusing. It seems to me a well intended thing that misses the point. The good intention was: We want to be inclusive...and the 6 rule would allow all the owners of revolvers to compete. Well, sadly, there are probably hundreds of thousands of revolvers out there in sock drawers and night-stands, and precious few of them are ever taken out on the weekend to an ipsc match. Why? Because the owners don't compete...and wouldn't compete regardless of the rules. In fact, ask most of the owners what ipsc is and they will have no clue. So, in my opinion, ipsc and the others have to grow first from within, ie., those who know of them compete or, compete more often...or in a different class. Open class revolvers will allow the 'more than 6 rounders' to play. And play they will, imho. I know I would---and I do not shoot ipsc now.
  7. I have been bugging Tom Kilhoffer for one now for months. They just must not be out yet.
  8. I hunt with a Redhawk in .45 Colt that Hamilton did a full package on. It is my pride and joy. What a shooter it is.

    Bruce Lee Quote

Only Lee would know what he actually meant, but I read it to mean the same as many now do when they talk about being in the "zone". In the fight game the last portion of the statement seems to be about doing, as opposed to thinking. Train hard enough at anything and at some point it is experienced...something that is not necessarily thought about and then done...rather, it is just done....and not until afterward do we even realize that wow, that happened? My only contact with Lee has been through his writings and his protege', Dan Inosanto. Lee was a spectacular talent, extremely gifted---and extremely hard working on those gifts. Based on my knowledge of Lee he would probably be quite proud to hear rhino say what he said---Lee was all about taking from something what was useful and discarding the rest. rhino has done that, in his own way. On a different note, I don't think Lee or many others we now read saw themselves as any type of mystic, or guru. Rather, they were trying to put their emotion and thoughts down on paper...to be used or discarded as the reader wished.
  10. Congrats to all those who competed, and especially to TGO. Awesome.
  11. It is always interesting, coverage that is. Gun sports are like many other sports...the guys at the top work their tails off to win, or do well, and then get back to work to earn a living. A buddy of mine is world champion in his division of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, an incredibly difficult fighting sport. In Brazil, you get magazine articles and sponsors...in the USA your local paper doesn't have room to print the results. That is the breaks, ain't fair but then again what is. Magazines will cover what pays. When the Bianchi Cup starts drawing crowds like a golf tourney, it will get covered and the people at the top will be rewarded well for their effort. Until it does, it and they won't. Much of this should be blamed on us. Not many of us travel to be spectators at any shooting event.
  12. NG, often times trying harder does not translate into doing better. Working on the things that will make you better, make you better. Not trying to state the obvious, but...I guess I am. I have been blessed in this life to have several friends who were / are world class athletes. Not one of them is a "natural"...but they look like it *now* because of the years and years and years of just down and dirty hard work. But the one characteristic that is in each of them is they truly LIKE doing what they do. Get back to having fun with that pistol! Treat yourself to some world class instruction for a couple of days. Bet you a steak dinner you will be better at the end of it, and, a second steak that there ain't anything wrong with what you are doing that a good teacher can't correct. Pistol shooting to me is pure gravy, nothing but fun. Can be aggravating fun, yes, but I don't earn a living with my pistol. So, it has to be fun. Remember why you are there to begin with...to have a great time with some of the buddies you would miss the most if *they* decided to quit. Good luck.
  13. I will second the note on John Jardine. I have a 1911 that was worked on by him, and a buddy has a TRP and Hi-Power that he really basically rebuilt. Tremendous work. Thought so much of it I ordered a couple of his Valtros.
  14. Hope I am posting this in the right area. If not, sorry. Over the past several weeks I have ordered several different things from Brian's [this] site. Just wanted to say the orders have been smooth as glass and delivery really quick. Thanks Brian.
  15. I have never heard a "new guy" complain about getting his ass handed to him by someone better, nor one that was upset by someone else winning. What I have heard, more than once, is a "new guy" didn't become a regular because of some of the attitudes in the group he / she shot with. Many here probably cannot remember the first time the shot an IPSC or IDPA match. I can, because it wasn't all that long ago...after years and years of shooting stuff other than pistols. Want the sport to grow? Want the loot to grow? If you are a regular talk to a newbie...I can guarantee you he / she is nervous. Sorry if this is a bit off topic.

    Zen

Interesting topic. A fighter friend and I were talking one day, general stuff that turned to the subject of pain [after all, he was a fighter and I wanted to know]. He said "it is going to happen, and it is going to pass...worrying about it just means it is with you longer." I have often wondered, out of a normal life, how much time do we waste worrying about things that never happen...or were unavoidable to begin with. 1 hour per day of fretting, every day, for 70 years? Over 25,000 hours of worrying...and what gained?
  17. If you can find a post-ban AK manufactured by Jerry Gordon [Gordon Tech] you will have an excellent AK. He made some of the SSR-99's, SSR-99P's, and SLR-95's that are on the market now.
