  1. It irritates me that nearly all .40 S&W Chamber checkers are useless for most lead loads and loads that are a hair longer than Saami spec. The only lead loads that will work are the 155g LSWC and smaller. Since I started to load for Major, I used a Mansor reamer to ream my Glock KKM barrel to load them longer and I reamed the EGW Chamber checker to match it. I doubt I would do that to the 50 round chamber checker since that is 100 doll hairs.
  2. I wonder what the weight max will be? I hope it stays at 43 ounces to be inline with the other divisions.
  3. If I am loading lead or coated 230g RN bullets, I usually seat them close to the shoulder which gets me between 1.225 and 1.235". For 230g FMJ or bullets without a shoulder, I go out to 1.250".
  4. When I use 230g LRN I load them close to the shoulder which typically gives me an OAL of 1.225" to 1.235". If you use that OAL, I suspect you can make 740 FPS (PF of 170) with 3.6g to 3.9g of Clays out of a 1911.
  5. When it comes to 9mm, I prefer loading my bullets long (1.140" to 1.165") for reliable feeding. Bear Creek 135g and 147g lets you load em long, you use slightly less powder, with slighlty less felt recoil, for a win win situation.
  6. Use them for practice instead of pulling them. 99% of the time they work just fine. I don't pull anything I don't absolutely have to! I should try that but my pull pile consists of cartridges that I used simply for setting up the OAL and rounds that might be squibs. It is starting to get quite large.
  7. With the exception of Berry's plated bullets, I don't like them at all. I generally stick to pure lead alloy, Bear Creek Moly, and FMJ, especially in 9mm. With a 124g bullet, you should be roughly in the 3.8g to 4.1g area win Win 231/Hp38 to make a PF of 130 which should work really well. Like GOF stated, your issue is probably too much crimp or your OAL. What profile is the bullet in question?

    Clays

I like regular clays for loads that barely make power factor. It works better for the heaviest bullets in any given caliber. Since I am running low on it, I only use it for my 200g HG68 loads in .45 ACP. I generally use Titegroup or SOLO 1000 for everything else.
  9. I like Federal for everything except hot loads. I remember purchasing almost 50k Wolf/Tula primers during the great primer shortage. Powder Valley had a crazy deal for $20 per thousand with free shipping and hazmat. I miss those days.
  10. I really love the beavertail on the SA and the SP01 frames. I was wondering if it is possible to maybe heat and bend an old BD beavertail and then contour it to make it similar.
  11. Have you ever taken off the barrel and slide a 9mm cartridge into the extractor? I am fairly certain it won't hold it.
  12. Stuart always sends my stuff out quickly.
  13. I don't have any experience with the Storm Lake or Lone Wolf Barrels but all of my KKM Barrels are deadn nuts accurate.
  14. I am just wondering if the 9mm and 38 super barrels will fit on the .40 slide and the extractor needs to be swapped out.
  15. If you get the 40 slide, you can just add a TS 9mm barrel, a 9mm extractor, and 9mm mags to convert it over.
  16. If that is what he wants it for, it will serve him well. It is a great little gun.
  17. I hope so. The rails tore leather off my SP01 holster. I just talked to my buddy and he said after cleaning the black stuff off, scratches were visibly present.
  18. More bang for the buck options.
  19. Well the magazine release spring is fairly stiff and when you are inserting a magazine, it will drag accross the magazine release. On all of my CZ's I typically install the extended magazine release and I contour it to the inside of the magazine well to ensure proper operation.
  20. Asking what powder is best in .45 ACP is like asking which car is best. The faster burning powders use less powder per shot and are good for creampuff to barely making factory power loads. Some also feel that there is less felt recoil or that the recoil impulse happens faster. The slower burning powders use a lot more powder but you can attain much higher velocities with less pressure. These loads typically have a longer recoil pulse and sound louder due to the higher velocity. Since you want to simulate self defense loads you should stick to powders with a burn rate similar to power pistol and slower. Will you be using hollow point in the future?
  21. I use regular small pistol primers on my Small Primer .45 brass. I have used Wolf/Tula, CCI, WInchester, Federal, and some really old stuff and I found zero difference in performance when compared to an identical load with Large pistol primers. I typically use the small pistol primered brass at competitions where the likelyhood of recovering my brass is quite small.
  22. Sometimes the magazines get hung up on the poly coating and the magazine brake. I add this part to all of my CZ's to help reduce this and it makes it easier to reinstall the hammer spring. http://czcustom.com/CZ_75-CZ_85-SP01Solid-Mag-Break.aspx
  23. I was going to get the Bladetech holster but then I remembered the horrible experience I had with my Bladetech holster for my 1911. It scratched the bejesus out of my slide and the trigger gaurd after 3 matches worth of draws. I had someone local to me show me the one he had for his Elite Match and it was starting to wear away the finish on the trigger guard from simply playing around with it at home. I would prefer to go with another option or else I will have to figure out how to make a mold for this gun so I can send it to Garret Industries to get a custom Silent Thunder Holster made. That's strange, mine shows no wear (that I can see) on the hard-chrome frame and only a little on the slide. What brand of 1911 did you have? I'm also surprised that the other guy's triggerguard finish was wearing that fast. Maybe some of the more experienced guys here can help us understand or maybe your eyes are just better than mine. I was using my Springfield Loaded. Lets just say that Bladetech holster got tossed shortly after that. You don't need good eyes to see how much damage just a few uses the Bladetech holster has done. The gun is still brand new and unfired.
  24. Well since it is a slower burning powder it would not be my first or second choice for minor. The problem with loading for major is that you have to load it out of Sammi Spec. I have not made any 9mm Major loads yet but I have made 168 PF with a 124g JHP with 7.4g of PP in 38 super.
  25. Still waiting for the new rulebook to come out.
