  1. We bought the Nook Simple Touch, easy to root (allows you to install apps on device), cheap, long battery life, and easy to read in direct sunlight. We use the same... Nook Simple Touch for the exact reasons listed above. They ran for three days straight during the Michigan Sectional Championship and didn't need a battery charge. The few problems were operator induced and easily corrected. BC
  2. You guys make me appreciate our heated indoor matches...... It may only be 100 rounds on four stages, but it sure beats the crap out of 20 degrees and 20 MPH winds with a chill factor of below zero... BC
  3. This. I've backed off the powder charge a bit (was running a 174 power factor) as some of the primers were being shaken out of the pocket while in the magazine. Other than Speer and Blazer brass (which have a loose feel when seating the primer on a 650) everything else seems to survive at least 2-3 reloads. I have found a few (less than 10 of about 5,000) that were cracked or blown out at the bottom of the casing. BC
  4. As bagdad45 stated, the other thing that you have to consider is the Range Officer that is on the stage with the competitor. For "Boxed In" the RO is going to have a difficult time staying within an arm's length of the shooter once they get past the Cooper Tunnel. Build a path for the RO to see what is going on inside the tunnel while staying safely behind the shooter and not being in the tunnel. The RO can then keep up with them as they exit and continue on through the stage. The stage also has to be reset. Make sure the other shooters can get to all the targets and steel so they can be pasted and reset easily. BC
  5. Thanks. PM sent to Randy. Thanks, will give that a try. BC
  6. With indoor stages, if you want to put on a match and not just a classifier stage, you have to get creative. As already mentioined, there are very few classifiers that meet your requirements of moving and being able to fit onto your range. My club is facing the same problem and here are a few that we are looking at doing this winter. All of them are "stand and blast" format. You still have to aim and Virginia Count is well, just that. Ya gotta count.... CM03-02 Six Chickens 12 rounds Virginia Count, about 22' wide CM03-04 3V 14 Rounds Virginia Count, about 16' wide CM03-11 El Strong & Weak Pres 24 rounds Virginia Count, 4' wide CM09-03 Oh No 12 rounds Virginia Count, 12' wide CM13-01 Disaster Factor 12 rounds Virginia Count, 10' wide CM13-08 More Disaster Factor 12 rounds Virginia Count, 10' wide CM13-04 The Roscoe Rattle 18 rounds Virginia Count, about 22' wide Hope that helps, BC
  7. Our monthly match has moved indoors and it would be nice if the collective hive could come up with a few stage designs. The range is only 50 feet wide by 70 feet deep and all rounds must go directly downrange into the rubber impact area. We have tried numerous methods over the past 20 years and found that "squadding by appointment" was the best way to go. The club members that help build the stages and volunteer to RO at the Sunday match will shoot on Saturday afternoon once the match setup has been completed. The Sunday squad sizes are limited to 9 shooters so they can get through the match in 90 minutes, resulting in 4 sets of squads. The appointment times are 7:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM. Squad reservations are done via e-mail when registration opens. What we normally try and do is have four stages for the indoor match. The first is usually a speed shoot that we put near the rubber impact area and do that stage by moving a couple of targets from one other stage out of the way. Everyone on that squad will shoot the stage then it is set aside so the other three stages can run. Those three stages are strung across the range with (again) all rounds going fairly straight downrange. The other alternative we have used is to combine the three stages into a big field course, but that takes much more time to paste and reset, pushing the limts of the 90 minute "turn around" time. We have a door, numerous 8' walls, 3 barricades, Cooper Tunnel components and can bring in a barrel or two. Very limited on steel poppers as they have to have a "dog house" built around them to contain the shrapnel. Anchoring moving targets is difficult as it's a concrete floor and we have little or nothing to put on the prop bases, but it can be done. So have at it. Any and all stages will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, BC
  8. Red permanent magic marker around the extractor groove. You can pick out your brass by just tipping the cases on thier side. Casehead stays clean as well as the the breechface. BC
  9. Google image search and last time i check it was the first image that came up. The thumbnail was cached by Google so when you click on the image of the mount, PhotoBucket says "Sorry. This person moved or deleted this image." BC
  10. Simple straight forward 9mm Major with Matt Cheely's slide work and titanium comp it just runs. BC
  11. Excellent. Could not have expressed it any other way. BC
  12. So an updated version of the software will have to be in place on all devices to make this happen.... correct? BC
  13. CasePro #177 (the old purple style) has seen a lot of brass over the years. Shooting 9Major at a 170-173 power factor using 124 grain Montana Gold jacket hollow point at 1370-1395 fps. The brass is always run through the CasePro and sorted by head stamp. The reason brass is sorted is due to different manufacturers using different case web designs which affect capacity. Federal will have a different capacity than Winchester which will be different than Starline. Capacity affects pressure for a similar load, bullet weight and overall length. The brass usually lasts 4 or 5 reloads before cracking down one side, generating the "bell" sound referenced in the prior posts. You can hear that cracked case when you drop it into your brass bag at the range. It's best to find it before your reloading process begins rather than after. Every loaded round is then case gauged, primer depth and case are inspected. Sometimes gunk from the CasePro gets stuck to the brass but it is so thin, the round will case gauge successfully, but the gunk still has to be removed before it finds it's was into the chamber where it can cause more problems. Reloading is a skill that has to be developed to become a successful competition shooter. Some people just throw together whatever they have and then wonder why their gun jams at the Area match that they paid big bucks to enter. BC
  14. XILAR8N Exhilarating was on my 1991 twin turbo Callaway Corvette. It's now on the twin turbo Ford Explorer Sport. The Sport actually has more horsepower than the Vette did..... gotta love technology. BC
  15. At a recent Level 2 match, the overall match winner received an award. It just happens that he was shooting Limited. Should the next person down in the Limited results receive the Limited Division award? In this specific case, the match director is using the rulebook's Appendix A2, basing awards on 5-10-15-20 shooters. The person that came in second Limited is M class and there are not 5 M class shooters in Limited so there will not be a class award for Limited M. How have you match directors handled this in the past since it is totally your call? Thanks, BC
  16. The only club within a reasonable driving distance that holds 3gun matches has to shoot underneath wooden baffles to appease the locals. This severely hampers stage design creativity. The real downside is that they hold the match on the same day as my club runs our USPSA match. When they put on 6 stages, it becomes a 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM day at the range with 40 other competitors. Those that consider themselves above everyone else will "shoot 'n scoot" before helping with stage teardown. Seems it's always their kid's birthday or they have "people in from out of town" so they have to leave before the squad is even done shooting. When the squad of 10 people turned in to 3 that tore down the stage, it was the last time I went. BC
  17. "Those that live by the sword get shot by those that don't." Overheard in downtown Detroit... where concealed carry is not only legal but mandatory.
  18. Yes its in the rulebook or website. Suggests how many in division and class to be recognized. I think it's 5 for each class placement. Bill, Can you be more specific? I just looked through the rulebook online and could not fine anything by searching for "award" or by going through the index. Thanks, BC
  19. Next year it would be nice if the 3 Gun matches at Livingston didn't happen on the same day as the USPSA matches at Detroit Sportsmen's Congress. BC
  20. No, we registered everyone on the iPad. It works much better and faster but obviously doesn't work in the long run. Had to manually enter 55 shooters for 7 stages to get the results out last night. Not a happy camper.... Sure wish there was an upload from PractiScore to the USPSA website. BC
  21. I have the same issue. How do you fix this without e-mailing Scores_P to Bill? Exporting file from Apple iPad version 1.5.10. BC
