  1. To maximize sales, use the business model that drug companies use: try to come up with every possible use for it and advertise/market to all of them. Grease doesn't have to be used only on guns. DuPont actually used to put the exact same product which was a teflon laced silicone spray lube in two different cans with different labels and "target uses" to sell more of it. +1 on Youtube since it's free and the title of the video can be tailored to the product.
  2. I recall Handguns magazine actually has an online edition which is basically free so I would think that would get more eyeballs than a mag people have to buy. http://www.handgunsmag.com/ There are probably other online mags.
  3. Most people have to shift the strong hand grip to use the strong hand to operate the slide release which makes #3 faster since your weak hand thumb comes right into position for a slide release as you grip it onto the gun.
  4. +1 on this: "Go with a 1911, the best you can afford." You may also want to consider getting a used STI or something the next level up from a mass produced 1911 like Springfield. If you can find one for under $1000, jump on it.
  5. I'm the opposite: my PSA runs a shade high (like 6 -7) even though I have absolutely no other symptoms and I am 60 years old. The kaiser doc started talking about biopsy about five years ago and I said no way. It's not the number so much as the rate the number is changing which in my case is about none.
  6. I think they sell new for around $1300 now (check Dawson Precision) so fair price depends on condition. I think $950 is reasonable. You would have to have a slide and top end fitted, would cost about the same as a used gun (or more)
  7. Maybe, but that's not why they aren't building up capacity. The world is using a ton more ammo and the tooth fairy doesn't bring it. The major suppliers that used to flood the US with cheap ammo like Sellier+Belott, Wolf, Tulah, brown Bear etc haven't been shipping quantity here in a long time. Bottom line: I used to get new 9mm FMJ Blazer Brass for $6/box because Wolf was $5.50/box..... US ammo makers know that if and when the massive war consumption ramps down, those cheap ammo makers will be dumping cheap ammo here again and they will be stuck with unused capacity and ammo they have to sell cheaper than they want to.
  8. Bookmarking this post for the future, to refer everyone complaining about lack of 22LR ammo.... YOU are the problem! Here is the problem. Ammo makers blow a lot of hot air about "expanding production" but the truth is none of them will invest the money to increase capacity significantly since they think the current demand is a temporary "panic buy". They also allocate capacity based on profits and .22 ammo is the cheapest. They are making as much ammo as their current capacity permits, but obviously, that is not enough. "So why is it worse this time around? First, ammunition manufacturers have been running at or near capacity for at least 10 years. Some of their production is still earmarked for military contracts, even though the U.S. military’s presence overseas is being reduced. But the fact of the matter is most ammo makers have barely recovered from the last ammo-buying panic. Nobody who makes ammo has had it sitting around getting dusty on their shelves. They were barely able to keep up with commercial demand before the country went into panic-buying mode. If the demand is so great, why aren’t Winchester, Remington and other companies expanding so they can make and sell even more ammo? It’s not that easy. First, to expand any business requires a lot of time and money, and there are never any guarantees. Who’s to say next year nobody buys any ammo because everybody bought it this year? In a business as political as the gun and ammo industry, sales spikes are common." http://www.gunsandammo.com/ammo/ammo-shortage/
  9. Limit buy of only one box..... so I get to pay $14 shipping on my $21 box of ammo. Great...... $35 for 500. Oh well.
  10. That's the problem with .22LR ammo: by the time I have robbed a bank to pay for it, the place has sold it all.
  11. My dad's old cat always slept on top of the old TV, the one that had tubes in it because it was warm up there. The top was a screen and the heat drifted up. Once the cat barfed on it and the barf went into the TV and shorted out the high voltage cage and killed the TV. My dad hauled the TV to the repair shop and the guy just about hurled when he opened it up.....
  12. The shooters choice stuff I have tried are first rate. I use their spray preservative and their bore cleaner. FP-10 is also excellent.
  13. Owning them is legal in all cities except Sunny vale and San Fran, it's importing them that's illegal. Also, transferring possession (by any means) between people is strictly illegal. You can't even lend one to somebody for five minutes at the range.
  14. Would you know how there supposed to prove that, bc he said he's law enforcement but the whole deal seems fishy Has to be purchased on proper paperwork from his department. Had an LE busted a while back for using it to get mags for his personal guns.
  15. Absolutely illegal to import hi cap mags to cali unless on a PO for law enforcement. I think it is still technically legal to import "rebuild kits" to kali (take the mag apart) but the end user commits a felony when he puts it back together. Check that last one because they passed a law to plug that loophole and I am not sure when it goes into effect. Cali DOJ finally got fed up with idiots on Calguns selling guns with eight "high capacity rebuild kits" with mags that have he follower and spring pulled out. Anyway, in general, it is strictly illegal for private citizens to import hi caps to cali.
  16. In my case, the attacks usually come at night when I try to sleep based on the accumulation of crap I breathed during the day.
  17. Smoke certainly can cause an asthma attack. Cigarette smoke used to trigger mine. Gun smoke is also irritating but my range has good airflow and venting. You my want to get a gas mask (painter's mask) that can protect you.

+1 European colonialism and interference is what set up the mess that is the Middle East. We didn't help things much by setting up brutal puppet dictators like the Shah of Iran to secure oil flow. It's a mess but blaming it on one specific president or political party is absolutely ridiculous.

That's the problem. Governments always try to fight the last war over again: we are conditioned to think we can conquer a country and win a war, but Islamic extremism is not associated with a specific country. It's a belief system whose followers exist in many countries and move around to whatever area is weakest based on the government there.

    ISIS

I wish there was a way to take them out. It's a regional problem caused by weak governments who practice appeasement. We spent ten years in Afghanistan trying to eradicate the Taliban (another extremist Islamic occupation force) and they are still there and still in control. If there is a solution, I haven't seen it. A massive military response just puts their heads down for a while, but we can't occupy their country forever.
  21. Wilson not only uses them in their guns they also make the buffers. http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/recoil-parts/recoil-buffers/shok-buffs-pak-sku965002004-16387-36781.aspx?cm_mmc=cse-_-Itwine-_-shopping-_-1911%20Auto%20Shok-Buffs&gdftrk=gdfV21820_a_7c187_a_7c1021_a_7c965002004_d_965002004_d_10587 It's simple physics. The buffers absorb energy that would otherwise be used to pound the slide and frame together. If there are cycling problems (short stroke, no lock back, etc) they can easily be addressed. Also, I recall buffs are available in several different thicknesses to allow for guns with less "cycle range". As for why gun makers don't recommend them: they don't profit from them, they pose a miniscule risk of cycling problems if neglected and not replaced at a sane interval, so they don't assume the risk that would come with it since they derive no benefit. They are happy to sell new guns when the others wear out, so extending the life is not in their interest.
  22. LOL As for the two mentioned in the top post, IMHO it depends on the individual sample you get more than the company's name. Mass made guns have a spread of quality at fit. If you get a good one, you'll be very happy.
  23. My eyes never twitched due to fatigue. But for a number of years, my non dom eye could still focus on the sights while my dom eye required "correction". That's when I tried to sight with the non dom eye and it never worked for me. That's when the eye would "twitch" and not give stable focus. Had nothing to do with fatigue, just couldn't do it for more than maybe ten seconds. Doesn't matter now since both eyes are equally crappy at this point.
