  1. I can top that... I ordered something off Amazon and the seller sent it priority mail. It never arrived and I started backtracking it through USPS. The list of excuses I got was: 1) The seller never sent it. 2) It got lost because they sent it to the wrong postal station. 3) It was "undeliverable" because the bar code was "damaged" and would not scan. Regarding #3 I swear I am not making this up: The delivery guy finally delivers it a week late and shows me that the bar code had been torn which was why they din't deliver it. I held the package up and right in the center of the package was my correct name and address and zip code...... ME: "this has my name and address. Why didn't you deliver it?" USPS carrier: "No, see the bar code was damaged so it wouldn't scan." Ever wonder why the USPS is what it is? That's why.
  2. I agree completely but I was informed they didn't like such rants because they offended people on the forum who worked for USPS. Like I said, every time I see the USPS it astonishes me that the organization still exists.
  3. I can't stand them either for an assortment of experiences but when I posted rants against them before I got yelled at for insulting people who work at the post office.
  4. I guess we are all like the frogs that don't notice the water is warming gradually so we get boiled..... I went to Comcast six years ago when AT+T had finally screwed me over to the point I couldn't stand it anymore. I signed up for Comcast for a basic land line and cheapest internet and it was about $50/month..... then.... and today it's about $90/month which is ridiculous for that service. About $1100/year for a land line and basic internet connect (no cable, no TV, I get 200 free channels off the air) So they give you a cheap rate and jack it up that's how they warm the water gradually. But recently my modem (actually THEIR modem) died. It's the same one I have been renting from them all along... for $8/month. They sent me a new one and after only half a day on the phone it actually gets activated and works. I start thinking that at $8/month, I have paid them close to $600 over the last six years for that $40 modem. It's just a cheapo modem, no wifi. And no, I am not dumb enough to pay that rental fee WILLINGLY..... it turns out if you have Comcast phone service which is VOIP (voice over internet protocol) they have proprietary crap which means only their modem will work. There is a list of "approved Comcast modems" which work with their internet access but can't do the VOIP service. Guess how I found out... the "approved" modem I bought to get out of paying $8/month is still here in the box. So I called Comcast and told them I thought a bill adjustment was in order..... not that making me pay $600 for a $40 modem is unreasonable, just that we should share the wealth a bit and credit me back some... especially since I found out on the internet that Comcast policy is to change the status of the modem to "customer owned" after it's paid for about 3X over and the rental fee is suspended. Of course, when I said that it gave them a good laugh. So Comcast will be taken out of my life in the near future. I'll be getting an LG 90 cel phone and abandoning my land line. I will be spending $30/month to get a line on my wife's plan instead of spending about $60/month for the stupid land line.... And I'll find a new ISP as soon as I sift through the various ones around. I doubt Comcast will miss my $1100/year..... or maybe they will. But they get to go on the pile with AT+T that is labeled: NEVER AGAIN
  5. +1 That's the best starter. Put a black dot on the wall about 50 feet away and lock focus on it. Then point your finger of your right hand and bring it up like gun sighting until it is in line with one eye, keeping focus on wall. The eye it lines up with is the dominant eye. The secret to shooting with two eyes open is that you focus on the target and "look through" the sights along the dom eye line of sight. There will be a second sight image off line that's easy to ignore. Sights will not be in perfect focus, but you can still have "visual awareness" of the sights even though mechanical focus of the eyes is on the target. It's easier to do than it is to explain.
  6. Depends: how many lights do you see with both eyes open? Just kidding. If your sighting eye is strongly dominant, it's an easy skill to master. If not, maybe not so easy.
  7. Good point: one technique may not suit all needs. If I have a stock gun (no magwell) that has a double stack magazine, the natural taper of the top of the magazine means I can slam it in "blind" from underneath with the gun still in front and on target axis. I don't need to see the underside. But for a single stack 1911 with no magwell, I have to bring it in a little and rotate the bottom up and stare straight at it to make sure I get the mag dead in the opening or I will catch a mag lip on the frame every time.
  8. People also need to realize that if they are popping the mag release with the strong hand thumb, they will have to shift their grip and rotate the gun somewhat. How does that relate to the OP's possible cause of NDs? In a "normal" grip, the trigger finger can be taken outside the trigger guard and extended straight forward and the finger tip will probably (normal size fingers) lay across the front edge of the trigger guard. That's where mine rests on a reload, that blocks the finger from coming back inside the trigger guard while reloading. If I shift my grip enough to release the mag button.... the trigger finger tip no longer reaches the front of the guard it easily falls inside. The other thing, for every force on a stationary object there has to be an equal and opposite force so when you are trying to push the mag button in with the RH thumb, the natural tendency is to grab the gun with the other fingers which puts the index finger on the trigger.
  9. natural to have to push the right side of the frame with those fingers to offset the thumb force pressure. Simple solution is to pop the mag button with the weak hand thumb as you break the grip to reload. Then you don't have to shift grip with strong hand or contort it to reach the release button.
  10. Hard chrome is an exceptionally durable finish.
  11. Back in 1978 when I started work, my "best friend" got screwed on a car deal and needed money. So I lent him about $1000 which was most of the money I had on earth to save his butt..... and for three months it was like he forgot all about it. He had money to buy everything else (like booze, cigarettes and dope) but none to ever pay me. I finally had to call him on it and he got huffy. Eventually I got my money back. Never again.
  12. "I have a new Dan Wesson 1911 .40" The key word is "new". It may just be tight. Many new guns do this, shoot it a while.
  13. Yeah, I wouldn't know when the chicken was cooked without the smoke alarm going off.
  14. For general gun lube? FP-10 is a very good overall liquid lube. Militec liquid is good lube but not good rust preventer. Tons of good liquid gun oils on the market, never heard of one that didn't work OK. A lot of people just use synthetic car motor oil or ATF.
  15. It is. It is also important to point out that the only treatment the ATA endorses in any way is exactly that, retraining and habituation. +1 Same thing my research said. There are some good "hearing aid" type of devices available that can do the therapy. I was a EE and specialized in audio design for a while. I built something with wireless headphones that had the TV sound in it that I could add white sound to while I listened to TV. Used it for a while. Important to realize that this type of "retraining of the brain" therapy does not happen quickly.
  16. Only insofar as it may reduce stress slightly. There is zero evidence that caffeine effects tinnitus either way. Everyone is different and all that...maybe it will help you and that is great if it does. There is massive lack of information in medical community on tinnitus. Some cases resolve spontaneously, some cases occur spontaneously(If I recall 30% of people with tinnitus have zero hearing loss) so one think does not necessarily mean the other, which also is the reason that research has moved on to neurological treatment. If you move your jaw does the pitch change? For most people it does and it gets considerably louder, again linking that no system in your brain stands alone, your vision effects how you hear because its part of how you localize where a noise is coming from. I sound like a wet blanket and I really wish there were something new out there, but zinc, caffeine, magnesium, any supplement, virtually all drugs, etc...are non effectual. The only treatment that has any lasting effect take time, coping skills, and patience in large doses.... When I got severe tinnitus back mid 90's, there was a doctor named Jastreboff who had success with TRT (tinnitus retraining therapy) which uses white sound not to try to mask the sound but make the brain learn to ignore it. If the ringing and white sound always occur together at about the same volume level, the brain "labels" the ringing ans trivial noise and you hear it less. Anyway, they had some help with that approach. http://www.audiologyonline.com/articles/tinnitus-retraining-therapy-an-update-1286
  17. Be careful with iron. It can be very hard on the stomach and intestines.
  18. I have a STI Trojan with dual top ends for 9mm and .40SW. The slide stop as well as ejector are common to both (use 9mm parts), but the entire top ends are changed.
  19. I don't think you need upper body strength or strong hands to control a pistol. I think you just need to grip it right (hard, esp with the support hand) and at the right times. Anyone can do it, even 98 lb weaklings like me, so it's only self-limiting to make excuses. 98 pound women can too by using a different technique. I read one "trick" is to rotate the right elbow so it points out to the right. With the two elbow joints pivoting on axis that are 90 degrees off from each other, the elbows don't bend as much during recoil. Obviously, you do have to lock the wrists as well.
  20. This guns slide has had the breech face milled open to .40 size. It is using a 9mm conversion barrel, the outside dimensions fit the slide but it is bored for 9mm. I don't know who sells these (?)It also has a different extractor for each caliber. IMHO, the standard 1911 type extractor would not have enough range of travel to securely extract the narrower 9mm case. Guess how I learned that.
  21. It is theoretically possible to get a single slide to work with both 9mm and .40, but the breech face is cut for 40 size, not 9mm. So you can't start with a 9mm slide and install a 40 barrel. You can start with a .40 slide and install a 9mm CONVERSION barrel in some cases, but it requires a pivoting extractor that can move far enough to hold the smaller 9mm case against the edge of the wider .40 breech face cut. In the case of 1911/2011 using the traditional extractor, I don't think it would extract 9mm properly. Note: I think some of the dual caliber 2011's have replaceable breech faces so the slide can be used for two calibers. I assume it would need a different extractor for each?
  22. Just thought I should write an update/correction. My arm pain is still there. I finally found some helpful info including an article on WebMD http://www.webmd.com/osteoarthritis/guide/tennis-elbow. I followed the info on warm up excersises and it seems to make a difference. Imagine that, every athlete in the world does it. Duh! Also started icing, and using an elbow strap. Lastly I gave up the idea of strengthening my way out of this problem. It's an over use injury, so using it more didn't help. Another Duh! There's a REALLY old joke: Hey, doc! My arm hurts whenever I do this...... Doctor: Then stop doing that.
