  1. Todd was the one who mentioned it to me the other day. I am seriously looking at going, will drop them an email and see if there are openings. Looks like the closest "big" match for the area.
  2. Gander Mountain is at the same exit as the range, big box outdoor store. Also Shooting Sports Pro Shop is right there, no first hand knowledge of them. There is also a Walmart a few miles away and just up the road is Jacksonville with a bunch of Walmarts, another Gander Mountain and a number of local gun shops.
  3. Yep, in fact that is what the Pros have to do. Most popular for the Ams is open sat afternoon and limited sun morning. But lots are shooting both with a Limited gun (in fact I was shooting a production gun in both last year) so shooting the open first lets you get ready for the limited match. Any way you do it, shooting both is the best way and no matter what you want to hydrate ALL of the time!
  4. Agree on all of the above, especially the part about practice! If the FL Open does not remind you what the bump on the front of the slide is for (at least for all of us non-Open shooters!) nothing will. Thanks for another great match in Frostproof.
  5. Welcome. You near the coast? If so the 3 gun is limited unless you go to central FL or around Atlanta. I am the MD for the USPSA club in Brunswick (Coastal Area Practical Shooters and we shoot the 4th Sat.) and we usually have one 2 gun match in Jan. but this year postponed it until later in the year. SEPSA is in Yulee and shoot USPSA pistol on 2nd Sat. and also usually holds a 3 gun match on the 5th Sat. in months that have one. Name is Tim Currie, if you have any questions or I can help with anything drop me a line.
  6. Yep, the 1-4 should be fine for Tac Optics. My understanding is that the flip to side magnifiers are fine for Tac Optics as they stay on the rifle (and have to start and finish on the rifle). An add on that does not stay attached is a different story. I shot last year and all I had was a Vortex Strikefire- options were to shoot the whole match with it at 1x or to screw in the doubler (2x) and leave it for the whole match. Chose the later since I was used to shooting to 300yds with that setup, and glad to have it on the 2 longer range stages. It did slow me down on the close in rifle though- especially the stage with the barrels and the first part of the AM stage with the nice little hill. Had to pick my head up once to make sure I was engaging both targets in a pair stapled together in the shadows. Burris MTAC 1-4x on the new gun I put together though
  7. Not to mention the flood of 2011! I was out there in the dark slogging around in shin to knee deep water knowing good and well what was coming up out of the low areas and pines. Looks like Batter Up has some competition. Looking forward to this year!
  8. According to an email from Phil, the ProAm will be 13-15 July 2012. I had emailed him after his initial email to everyone about the 3rd weekend since the 1st is a Sunday. Last year each day had the Limited match each morning and the Open match each afternoon. I shot the Open on Sat afternoon last year and the Limited on Sun morning. Did it that way since I was shooting a production gun in both and really shooting the Open for fun and experience.
  9. Sorry guys, it is late and I read through the first 4 pages before realizing that there were 20 more! Can anyone tell me if the whole issue about applying this at the local level matches just does not make sense? I am the local club president and MD (and shoot Prod.) and have no idea how I would implement this rule. Leaving aside the cost of adding another piece of equipment and how to use it- where am I supposed to do this? I have 5 bays (and since we have to shut down the entire range we cannot set up until match morning) and one short one for a safe area. I do not have anyplace else to set up for testing the guns. Much less the time or people to do it. And as far as I can see there is NO level one exemption. Even if there was, would it be fair to not give club members a chance to check out their gear before going to a large (and expensive) match? Any thought about the majority of the matches out there- local level 1?
  10. Yep, Phil had emailed that the decision had been made a few months ago. For those of us over here who got our first taste of the ProAm, that was a happy day! Can understand others wanting it back up their way though. I will be there again this year, can't miss it while it is over this way. I am guessing that there will be a lot more shooters this year after everyone heard about what they missed last year!
  11. You sure they out of stock? Only ones listed on the site as out of stock are the 14.5" barrels. I used a Kies adjustable low profile gas block. Have not had a chance to play with adjusting it yet though. Honestly, once I put the Miculek comp on there I don't notice much of a difference in anything else. With the comp there is so little recoil or muzzle rise that I can't tell the difference. I decided that the extra length was not worth it for me, would rather have the little extra maneuverability of the shorter barrel and comp.
  12. I just put together an AR for 3 gun as well. I know what a lot said about going to a 18" with rifle length, but preferred to stick with 16" mid-length. Honestly, with 5.56, a good comp and adjustable gas- how much lighter recoil and muzzle flip will you see? I did not see enough when shooting a friend's 18". Anyway, reason I posted- I ended up going with a 16" stainless with Wylde chamber and mid-length gas from Palmetto State Armory. In stock and to my house in a bit over a week, but that was due to waiting on one of their BCGs. http://palmettostatearmory.com/2542.php Only had it out twice so far and then only with a red dot and then a Burris Mtac 1-4x and not really broken in yet, but so far looks good. From a makeshift rest, with the 4 power scope the groups were well under 1 1/2. Even with a stiff wind in the face and 55 grain ammo was easily on the 12" steel at 200yds and the 24" steel out to 450yds.
  13. When I put the JP trigger in mine I wondered if there would be an issue with the subcaliber adapter. Works fine on mine, but I did keep the stock hammer and only changed the trigger, springs and connector. I think there can be an issue with some other hammers. Gotta run the adapters a bit wet though. Also have never seen any issues with the barrel and what a difference the Black Dog or CMMG mags make over the stock Ceiner ones!
  14. That is one reason I have stuck with using a Ceiner sub caliber adapter. I used them years ago in M16s when we were stuck without outdoor ranges at times in some deployments and never had problems with them. Same with the one I use now. The nice thing is that you are using everything the same on the gun except for the bolt. No second lower or optic. When I get a chance to shoot the local steel challenge type match I often use it as a 2nd gun. Lots of fun and works the transitions. On mine I have found it to shoot to about 1 1/2 inches over POA at targets out to 15 or 20 yards. That is comparison to the full 5.56 which shoots the normal 2 1/2 inches below POA at those ranges.
  15. Great! Looking forward to the episode. Will be back to shoot it again this year. I had seen you all cover it in the past but did not think I would get a chance with ProAm being so far away. Knew when I heard it was in FL I had to go though, was as much fun as it looked on TV.
  16. Anyone used one of AA's MK10 plus forends? This is the one made of G10 composite. If so,what did you think? I know that it comes with a long aluminum barrel nut, but how does the forend attach to the barrel nut?
  17. Hope they made sure it was a nice SMOOTH picnic table seat! Or did they just provide tweezers?
  18. That is a good point, on the 1-4s it is really 1 or 4 (at least for me and it seems like what I have seen with other 3 gun comp.). 1x is basically red dot territory and 4x is for the longer ranges. Besides, how often do we shoot exactly what the BDC is set up for. It is more important to know YOUR gun and ammo combo. Ie. I like a 200 yard zero, from that point I need to know where to hold for the other ranges based on me, my gun and my ammo. These are not designed to be used like a scope with a HORUS or other reticle. Also, the various reticles can come in handy at close ranges. Since there is a major hold off for shots from muzzle to about 30 yards, it is nice to be able to use part of the reticle at the point of aim for those ranges.
  19. Thanks for the info guys. Like was said above, Nordic is out of stock and also they specifically say that their barrel does not have the M4 feedramp cuts. The upper I am using is cut for those anyway. Went ahead and ordered from PSA, hope to have it soon.
  20. I have seen the Stag lefty models for right around $800, not a bad start if that is the way you want/ need to go. Hard to believe after the prices a few years ago that any AR would be 800, much less a true left handed AR!
  21. And it does not matter how long the target was visible, once it came to rest and could not be engaged it was a disappearing target for scoring purposes. Just like a drop turner that comes to rest with the target not visible or a swinger that winds down and stops where not visible. All above would be no pen. mikes (if missed). Also, this is why I used softcover the time I wanted to hide part of the star, so that a shot through the softcover that took out a plate would be fine. If it was hardcover that was not able to stop the bullet and a plate is hit then it is a re-shoot and PIA. Also, softcover left the top and bottom of the star visible. Only used once, sort of a gimmick- but turned out to be fun.
  22. Anyone found a "stack" to replace CR-2s? Have a Vortex Strikefire that is actually decent for the money. The dot is just not quite enough in bright light unless I have the doubler screwed into it. That makes close in a bit tough though.
  23. Wow, just when you think you have seen it all online in the forums- you all came up with a new one Can honestly say that I am NO help with this one, but if I go out next time and the noise is bugging me- it is all your fault! Been shooting M16s, M4s and ARs since 17 when I enlisted, first time for everything! Have enjoyed seeing how much you all have done to take care of it though Now if you want to hear spring noise, try a Kel Tec Sub2000. You basically have your cheek on the buffer tube and being a blow back gun the bolt is HEAVY.
