  1. The RO was correct. The part of the rules you quoted deal with location of the magazines. You listed 5.2.4 above but missed when the course of fire begins. "8.3.1 “Make Ready” – This command signifies the start of “the Course of Fire”..." Thus the MR command is the start of the COF and if the mag is in your pocket in front of the hips at that time the rule is broken. It has been discussed that you could pull it out of the pocket before the command, but then you are one handed, etc. Best option is to put that mag in an extra mag holder on the belt if you have it/space, a back pocket or a side pocket that keeps the mag behind the hip.
  2. I like to add it on occasion. Set up right it lets shooters decide how they want to shoot it. head shots, distance to the boy, run up and blast em close. Then there was the stage that I used black lawscaping fabric strung in front of the Texas Star. You could see the plates at the bottom and top. No just shooting it as normal and waiting for the plates to swing in front of the gun. I don't like it with hardcover since as shot through the hardcover that takes off a plate is a re-shoot. Of course unless you can actually put up real hardcover.
  3. There is some info for him on the homepage for the match. No fax but this is the email listed nbnoble@pmresort.us
  4. Tim, i told you that was a stage, not a parking lot!!! I guess the cars without tires or wheels should have been a warning! Still no idea what happened, just one of those things. Even the guy in Glascow went out of his way to help me out. He went Fri. night to get the window in some other town and bring it back so that he could put it in Sat. morning (when they are not normally open) and I could finish the match.
  5. Well, since the 2nd name called has posted, I will bookend it with mine- DEAD LAST in the random drawing. That is an all time new low for me and my luck with drawings Hell, they almost did not even call it! Oh, well- maybe next time. Gotta thank all the sponsors, match officials, ROs and Rockcastle. More thank yous later, but HUGE one to LaRue for a great chance to shoot from 30 to 1000 yards and great food! Like said above, lots of good food, plenty to do between stages and everything running on time. Even had time to get my rear window replaced after it shattered on Fri. and still shoot all of my stages, get in a 1000 yard shot (hit on shot 4 of 5) with LaRue and other things. Still inconsistent with my stages though. Ended up 30th overall, way better than my only other large multi-gun match. Surprisingly, 2 of my best stage finishes were in Stage 6 (shoot from and get out of a car sitting down on its chassis) and Stage 3 (shoot rifle, run up steep hill, shoot some more rifle and pistol). Both not considered "big" guy friendly! More later, time to get rolling.
  6. If you are shooting before the card arrives, tell the club that you have joined and they can put you in as "pending" and if a classifier stage is part of the match it will still go towards your classification.
  7. Last year I was asking the same thing. Ended up going to the GA state match (shooting what I had at the time- Glock 23 with near major ammo) unclass. in Production. Shot somewhere towards the bottom, but getting that first larger match out of the way makes the next ones much better. I think the State Championship matches are a good first one, usually a bit smaller, etc. You get a feel for how things are run, start meeting shooters that you will see and often squad with at future matches, go through chrono for the first time, etc. Only problem is that you might get hooked on the bigger matches and have to find ways to pay for more! Since that match last Sep. I have shot the Area 6 multigun champ., FL Open (3rd D class)(lots of top shooters there!), Area 6 Champ. (2nd D class with near B class match score), SC State Champ. (1st D class with high C class match score and a week later a bump to C class), the ProAm this summer and off to the Ar15.com/Rockcastle 3 gun ProAm this coming week. Got the same advice as you are getting, just go for it! Almost forgot- glad to see the match listed. Was hoping there would be one- good way to finish off the year.
  8. Other than the cost of ammo (while not as bad as factory ammo, even reloading the cost is a bit over 9mm), I cannot think of a reason not to use the 35 in Production. As was said above, has advantages. Also, you can use it when you need/want to shoot major for some 3 gun or Limited, etc. The Dawson magwell is easy to put on and take off if you want to add it for those divisions/matches.
  9. Warren/Sevignys- Competition rear on my 35s and Carry on the 23 (need to get it on my 27 still). All have the shorter, .215 high fiber optic fronts. I find those to be right for 6 oclock hold. Did not like the adjustable rears, to high and required a high front sight. Like the sights down low and like the solid rears (old habits die hard). I also like the smaller front rod, Dawsons were really bright. I am actually going to give blacking out the FO a try, finding that I am not consistently placing the dot in the rear sight. Also, in case any did not know, Warren/Sevignys now can be bought with a .130 wide rear notch vs. the normal .150 for those who want a narrower rear notch. Oh, and they are tight! Have to hit the rears with the file a bit.
  10. Even plates on stands (not stars) can have issues. At the local match where I am MD, we have had a bunch of newer shooters coming out. Good thing is that they have been coming back and over time we get them involved with the score keeping (we use Palms) as a necessity. I had started to notice that both new and older shooters were not necessarily watching what they should be during the run (foot faults, movement, REF, etc). Each month I have started to address some part of the rules during the shooter's brief so I covered that last month. Next will be plates. Here is the question: As the RO should be concentrating on the gun shooter, they most likely will not see the hits. Since a hit on the stand (or arm of a star) is a miss, the shooter should re-engage. If that hit on the stand or arm knocks off the plate, it is a mandatory REF. On the other hand, if a hit on the plate fails to knock it off it is a REF even if the shooter re-engages. They key is that the RO or scorekeeper must be able to call it either way. Can't call it by sound, gotta see it. What should the call be if they are not sure where the shot hit? Example- hear steel hit, plate wobbles and stays up, cannot tell where hit it prior to shooter re-engaging and knock down the steel. To my mind, play on. Or- hear steel hit, sounds funny, steel is down but could not see hit. Again keep going. I guess what needs to be addressed is that the RO or scorekeeper MUST issue re-shoot if they KNOW a plate did not fall when hit or a plate fell when the support was hit? And also that the shooter should keep going until stopped by the RO. Thoughts?
  11. Get it done before more damage. I waited for 8 years due to my assignments in the Army (not wanting to lose position/job, depolyment, etc.) and my strong side shoulder got worse over time with many dislocations. By the end even in my sleep. That meant a much more intense surgery and a full year of rehab. Also loss of range of motion and pain, but at least it is more solid. Of course I never want to go through it again and probably should on my other shoulder. Others that I know that had theirs fixed early on have had a much better result both with the outcome and the length of time for healing. Good luck, and like was said above- do the rehab all the way through! Physical Therapists have a bit of the sadist in them to do the job, but those are the good ones.
  12. Glad to help. Since taking over as match director I have had to answer the question a number of times. Your match and scores really are the perfect example and it makes it easier to explain. Will have to use this post for the next time I am asked! Tim
  13. yours is the perfect example. You beat him on the long (and normally high point) stages and he beat you on the shorter ones. You noted that you beat him by 72 points on the long stages, but that was when you were both getting points based on another production shooter's time which was probably relatively close to your times. When a good open shooter goes at the long stages with only one reload, their time will usually be much better than production shooters reloading 3 or 4 times. Since the overall uses that time for awarding points based on percentages- you and the other guy's times were not so far apart in comparison and so you most likely got WAY less than 72 points more than him. The exact opposite happens on short courses (the open time is much closer to your times) and most likely he still got you by near the same number. Thus the change.
  14. You might want to go to the multi-gun section of the forum, will get more responses (also try a search in those forums) as many most likely will not see this post. Like others have said, very dependent on the match. Also, could not tell if you meant total round count for a match or since you mention "rig" you mean carry on your person for a stage. Others covered the round count bit, almost impossible to tell you that. Some matches may require slugs others not, some might be heavy in one of the 3 guns, etc. As far as rigs go, one of the differences between the USPSA pistol matches and multi-gun matches (even USPSA) is that you can adjust your rig during the match and are not required to keep it the same. Again, each match my be different though. A general good setup will include 2 to 4 mag pouches for pistol (depends on your division/pistol's rounds per mag), 1 mag carrier for rifle and for the shotgun many different rigs. Most will have a side saddle on the gun and 4 or more shell caddies (4 or 6 round) on the belt. Waist size can even make this one different, some of us have more real estate on our belts!
  15. Switched to Ready Tactical mag pouches and they are great. If shooting Production or Single Stack, you will most often run 5 mags on your belt and the other pouches just take up to much room. The Ready Tactical take up less room. I add velcro on the inside of the pouches to help hold on to the inner belt (CR speed belt). One thing on belts, remember that they must be secure at the waist. 5.2.3- ...The belt or the inner belt or both must be either securely fixed at the waist, or secured with a minimum of three belt loops. I did not remember the "either", anyone know how this is interpreted?
  16. Shot this one Sat. As always, fitting the stage to the bay was tough. It is our largest bay (maybe 25yds wide by 20 deep so it is still small) and I always am a bit ambitious designing for the bay. Had to move T5 and T6 to the left of the steel, but still available from most of the shooter area, and had to angle the walls for the close targets to limit where you could shoot from due to shoot throughs. As I stated in OP, I really wanted to give an option with the targets behind the barrels by allowing the shooter to either use a rope to pull the targets into view and engage or run forward. I was out of town though and not able to work on that for this time, will soon though. Bluenite and Joe4d, your right. I will put the warning in the RO notes, should not be in the directions but had it there so that they would be read at our match. I would normally have put a wall section or barrels to obscure those targets but I knew we would be running out with the other stages this month. As far as the first loading device on the barrel, is there a rule that prohibits that from being in the WSB? We have various other COFs that have loading from barrels, unloaded table starts, unloaded gun in holster starts, loaded gun in holster starts with ammo on barrels. Unless I am wrong (which I could be!), the rules state where ammo must be at the start of the COF, unless otherwise stated in the WSB.
  17. Yep, I only add them like you all said- using activators, standards stage, different points per targets, etc. Basically only if I need to be able to positively identify certain targets in the WSB or in the setup notes.
  18. Wow, only 1 junior at a Level 3 match is not just sad- that is scary! The Florida Open always has a lot of foreign IPSC shooters and seems like a lot of them have to shoot Uncl. I assumed that was since few are classified in USPSA.
  19. TRUbor9,a little more info might help. What made it wrong? Wrong division, wrong score? I am just curious because it is really easy to submit changes. One time I forgot to change 2 shooter's divisions when they had pre-registered but changed divisions when they came to shoot (and notified me at sign in). Easy enough fix and all done online. On the other hand, if there is a dispute in something like the recorded score or time or something, that is different.
  20. Yep, hope a lot of others are as well. Hard to believe the number of sponsors! Those were some amazing prize tables.
  21. Trying to add something a little different in a small bay where the stage otherwise would be a bit mundane. Besides, it is sort of old school and easy to set up. Plenty of work in the other stages! Gotta go out to the garage and cut up some targets and paint some others.
  22. I now take my Glock 23 along as back up (if not carrying it) to my 34 after having a squib that stuck about an inch from the muzzle in a 3 gun match. Unfortunately at that match I had carried a Glock 27 that day and was not in the habit of a back up gun and ended up using the G27 with 15 round mags the rest of the day. And I got lucky and a reshoot on the squib since I could have continued with the other guns (all 3 on that stage) but the RO stopped me instead. And at the SC state match I had one that popped but did not ignite the powder (powder all over the place). That was with only 2 shots to go on the stage so I was still able to win my class (D at the time and I was able to pop the bullet out easy and continue). I now always take a back up as you never know, and you may not 0 that stage.
  23. Thanks, file is changed. Brain cramp on the -5s! That is what I had down, 1 per but cleared it up in the RO notes (I hope!)
  24. Changed the file. Thanks, forgot the term had gone away and is now a statement (was easier with a term). This is a level 1 match with different ROs so trying to be as explicit as possible to make it easier, but need to stay legal and correct terms. Thanks.
