  1. I just put together a 18" UL Voodoo with rifle gas, JP comp, and Samson KM Evo 15 handguard. It is very light, accurate, and flat shooting. Craig
  2. Can't find ther like button.... Keep in mind, I love rifle shooting, but get bored with too much rifle hosing. Come prepared or bring cash to buy rifle ammo from your friends! Craig, you're gonna have more fun at the match as long as you remember all your heart meds and your Bengay. :-) No heart meds or BenGay. I am more concerned with blowing out a knee again at this match like last year . I will have plenty of ammo. And knee braces and ice cold liquid pain relief. Craig
  3. 144 SG, 130 Pistol, 72 Rifle................Sounds like a 2 Gun match with a little sprinkling of rifle so it can be called 3 gun. Craig
  4. I find the Nordic extensions work best for me when prone. But a lot of that is because I had a cervical fusion and have to get up higher just to be able to see through the sights. I just don't have enough flex in my neck when prone with any rifle. I may try the TTI extensions though as I can often use a 45 rd Lancer mag without too much problem and I doubt there is much overall length difference between the a Lancer and TTI/40 Pmag. Craig
  5. I tried a few optics. Eotech, C-More, Sparc, Aimpoint Pro. The PRO is hands down the best. The EO has that crappy grainy reticle like blowing up a 2 mp camera image to a poster size. The C-More has some great advantages but is a PITA to zero or change zero and a nightmare in the rain. The Sparc has a good 2moa dot but the lens is too small and dark. The PRO has great adjustments, awesome clear and crisp dot that is daytime visible, solid as a rock, and doesn't eat batteries like the other three. Craig.
  6. I tried the Tac30. The M-Tac/Tac30 are popular but I found the huge dots and thick circle to be annoying and blocking too much target at distance. If the circle was one line instead of 3 and all the dots were all about 1/2 as large, it may be a much better optic in my opinion. On the plus side, the reticle is daylight visible, the glass is good, and the price is right. I would look at the Burris XTRII. I myself use Bushnell 1-6.5 on both my TO and HTO rifles. But it will cost a bit more than your price cap. Craig
  7. My DPMS would not reliably set off surplus with a JP /yellow spring set up. Or even when I put a mil-spec hammer spring in it. Nor would it set off Hornady Steel Match. All other commercial and reloads go bang without problems. I have put in a Hyperfire but have not yet tried it with surplus or HSM. Craig I
  8. 175 SMK with CFE223 run 2620 from my 16" DPMS. 458 PF but they rock the steel with not much drop and easy for ROs to call. : http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle?&CartridgeName=308+Winchester&OrderBW%5B%5D=175&Manufacturer%5B%5D=Hodgdon&Powder%5B%5D=CFE+223 Craig
  9. That's not a variation of heavy metal. That's a different division called heavy optics. Aren't some of the matches allowing a non-magnified optic in HM? Just as in TI? Craig
  10. I have a Para Open gun. Frame is drilled for the C-More Serindipity. I had it built in 1995 and changed the barrel from 38 super to 9mm in about 2007. Way more fun as a Major 9 than a Super. Plus a change of the recoil spring and it's great with light 9mm loads. I also have a factory P18-9. Frame is the same and I use the same mags in both. Craig
  11. I saw some pictures of Robbie Johnson running one at a 3 Gun match. I am not sure if it was just a one time thing or if he is still using it. I shot one at a side match at Bianchi a couple of years ago. It could use a better trigger and the Magpul flip up sights were too boxy for me. But I liked the feel of it. Didn't get to check it much for accuracy since the targets were only about 50 yds away. Craig.
  12. I went ahead and ordered one. I like the reticle and my other Bushnells work great. As said, worth the money to try. Craig
  13. Same reticle available on the 1-6.5 scope. Not daytime illumination visible but works fine in the black. I got the other reticle in both of my 1-6.5 but both are good reticles. I think this could be a great scope for backup or on a rifle used predominantly for closer shots where 4x is sufficient. Actually, I may order one for my HD AR. Craig
  14. I have been using 748 with Hornady 55 gr fmjbt and getting sub moa out of a lightened 18" DPMS SASS barrel. 1/8 twist. 26.2 gr I think. I bought a bunch of CFE223 to use but the 748/Hornady combo works so well I have been using it instead. Plus I can still find 748. Craig
  15. I need a really tall front sight for my BHP so it clears the suppressor. It needs to be about .410 tall. The current front is a Millett ramped and it barely clears the can. I have a Millett adjustable rear and can put a taller blade on it, so rear clearance is not a problem. Anyone know of someone who makes such sights for BHP or can fabricate one for me? Craig
  16. There really isn't a good all around color for the steel if there isn't some kind of consistant color backer behind it. With a backer, it isn't as important to me what color the target is painted, as long as the backer isn't a similar color to the target paint or tan/gray for when the paint is shot off. Targets put in shadows are the biggest problem as target contrast changes for just about every squad all day long, no matter what color they are painted. Craig
  17. My first competitions were LE only events back in the early 80s. Eventually, they started evolving into 3 gun events. Nothing like the 3 Gun stuff of today, but it was all duty gear, pump shotguns, retention holsters etc. It was a good time. NRA TPC matches I have been to allowed LE to be current full time, part time, reserve, retired, corrections, or basically anyone who carried a commision and gun. And for military, it was pretty much the same, full time, reserves, and retired. They used to hold them the first three years of inception at Bear Creek Tactical in Stockton MO. They would have 70-80 participants each time. Two divisions, Tactical where you could use a semiauto shotgun and a scoped rifle, and Patrol with a pump only and iron sighted rifle. Duty gear, no big magwells or custom STI pistols. They were a lot of fun but for reasons unknown, this particular match was dropped from the venue. There was a good response from the LE/Mil community for these events. Guys shot with brothers of like minds and didn't feel like they were competing against pros. It was a much more relaxed environment. Sounds like a good idea to me. Craig
  18. I have several of both on different scopes of mine. Both work excellent and fit the scopes for which they are made. Personally, I think the Cat-tail is just a tad more attractive in shape and finish. Not better functioning than the Switchview, just an appearance thing. However, the Switchview is a bit less expensive and MGM donates huge amounts of product and support to our sports. For that reason, my recent purchases have been Switchviews. Craig
