  1. Good move to start everyone in rimfire. I suggest that you also shoot the rimfires in Steel Challenge. That way you can setup specific SC stages to practice and do random ones for Rimfire Challenge (5-7 targets including the stop plate). Rimfire Challenge uses plates as small as 6" unlike SC which goes no smaller than 10". Also lots of speed drills you can do. I have generally setup one stage for an extended time to try and perfect the ones that are the hardest in SC.
  2. 3rd straight world title for Kolby. In 2015 he beat BJ for the title and now this year he beat KC for the title. Both were shooting Open. Kolby beat KC in all 7 rifle stages and 1 pistol stage. KC had all new custom guns from VQ. He loved the family atmosphere of the match he told me. In fact he had to leave early to catch a flight so he told the MD that if his ticket was picked for a gun they were to give it to the youngest shooter in the match. When his ticket was picked that turned out to be little 7 year old Venice Oliver who finished ahead of 41 other shooters (she shot the Tier 3 ECSCC earlier this year). She is the daughter of the Volquartsen Shooting Team's Ron Oliver.
  3. I have seen Trent shoot. His foot work is similar to mine except my bad knees slow me down on Outer Limits. Max likes to do the shuffle but that only works well with the pistol. Like Trent I shoot the first 2 targets L>R but when moving to the center box with the rifle the it almost always has you pointing off to the right so I shoot the last 3 from R>L because I can just bring the gun up as I stop without having to twist more to the left. Also my starting position in the first box I put my right foot on the box frame because I want to know where it is without have to look by just feeling it with my foot when my left goes by. When I get to the center box and my foot is inside I attempt to shoot while my left foot is still in the air and I make it land very close to my right foot in case I have misjudged how far I am in the box because I don't want to have to look down at it.
  4. I watched KC Eusebio use a borrowed 41 at an SC match back around 2010. He was shooting in the 1.5s range in Showdown. Most of the race 41 I have seen had even more expensive upgrades on them including Bully or Clark barrels designed with lighter weight for speed. But the use of them has diminished over the years likely due to the custom market going the way of Buckmarks, Rugers, and 1911 conversions mainly and many of the custom parts makers for the 41 dying off or leaving the business. I first used a custom Buckmark I built myself for about 5 years then switched to a custom Ruger Mk III I made when VQ started offering their custom alloy lower frames. All my rimfires are essentially 100% as I seldom can recall any problems. I remember going 100% for a 49 match string over 18 months with the Browning until I loaned it to a good junior and she proceeded to stovepipe a case almost immediately. I don't use CCI SV for speed shooting as its not 100% in any of my firearms. I prefer louder and faster ammo. In the days of the electronic stop plates in SC the pros generally used CCI Stingers. Now its not so important. Using CCI SV means that using a comp has no effect in muzzle rise where as there is some benefit when using MiniMags or Velocitors. Comps also help the timers register a round, especially in rifles. S&W 41 is just kind of heavy and expensive for most shooters although if you see the kind of 1911/2011 .22 conversion customs coming out you might think the 41 is not so expensive after all.
  5. After the WSSC match every year they look at the peak scores and decide if they need to adjust the classification par times down more.
  6. I use LAX 147g 1000 fps reloads for knockdown like the monthly Peacemaker Super Steel matches. 200+ steel over 5 stages including just about every device made to carry steel plates. They actually recoil less in my PCC than over the counter Fed 115g 1145 FPS red box. In the stages without shooting boxes ( its a USPSA flavored match) I often shoot from as far away as double the minimum distance to gain a time advantage. In 2016 I shot one stage shooting all the targets from the initial box making some 4" knockoffs shot as far as 50 yards away all under the par time buzzer (and using my SC C-more with a 12 MOA dot). Needless to say they changed the rules after that so you had to shoot from at least 2 shooting boxes, not to mention they introduced more no-shoot barriers to keep people from doing that much anymore. Still last match I used the same LAX ammo in my G34 open pistol to finish second in Open and with my knees I can hardly run at all (RMR w/9 MOA dot).
  7. However some things changed, upper is now Spartan side charging upper, hand guard is Taccom CF, and from experience the ETS mags now have Wolf G18 +5% springs.
  8. Here is a picture of both my rifles setup with the MR stocks. They are lighter than any of the wooden ones as they are fiber reinforced polymer. They are the most ergonomic to me of all the stocks I tried.
  9. Its not one of my best. Actually the only time I had a stage win in a bigger match it was Pendulum. And I have to admit I had it setup in my backyard range for something like 6 months. Every stage in SC has a visual trap and you have to figure out what they are and how to avoid them.
  10. Ditto. I use nothing but Mini-Mags in the pistols and AR-Tactical in the rifles. I never have duds or other issues in a match since maybe early 2016. I have used Aguila SE 40g and while my pistols shoot it fine I actually get a dud or two on occasion. It still runs better than most of the other ammo I use (I use Fed AE 38g and 40g during the winter because it has less lube than most anything else) so I keep some around. I find Norma Tac-22 is pretty good but slow so I generally use it in place of CCI-SV in silhouette matches. Fed AutoMatch is good enough for practice and that's it. Winchester is OK for varmints but not competition. Remington is good for just about nothing and you have to clean your firearm more often. I usually give it to friends that don't care. The SD of a round used for shooting steel under 35 yards is basically a worthless stat. Even that deviation will still be on a plate. The only thing that counts when shooting steel is that everytime you pull the trigger the firearm goes BANG. Nothing else means anything unless you are shooting farther away.
  11. Max got me to switch to 1,2,4,3,S on my pistol also and I immediately gained about .3s per run. I still shoot the rifle/carbine faster in that same pattern. Its just faster to move the rifle between plates with so much better leverage than you can get on the pistol.
  12. Well I signed up for this year also. See you all there. I will likely be there to do the side-match on Friday.
  13. Like others have said the Axiom stock is the lightest. To do the fastest transitions you need to move your off hand as far down towards the end of the barrel as the stock permits. This provides more rigidity in the grip and allows you to control the muzzle position much better. Problem with a magwell grip is the entire end of the barrel is unsupported and then it becomes a lever that you have to control with your hands too close to each other. Also you did not say what variety of Kidd barrel you are using. Their ULW barrel is 1/2 the weight of one of their all steel barrels although both the Volquartsen carbon fiber and the Tactical Solutions alloy are another 4+ ounces each lighter than Kidd lightest ULW barrel. Probably why most shooters use either VQ or TS barrels in their speed rimfires. I am also in the Super Senior category at 70.
  14. I use a pair of 33rd Glock 18 mags and a pair of ETS 31rd mags with Arredondo +3 base pads to get 33 in them also. They were take offs when I upped all my G17/34 pistol mags to +5 basepads (mix of TT and Arredondo). Arredondos don't add any weight in case I am shooting a match where there is a mag weight limit for extended mags (IDPA I think). Never had any issues with the ETS mags so I often use them first in a stage. Always use my mag loader on all my mags.
  15. I have been hit enough times that drawing blood is a given although most of it is pretty weak and just falls to the ground. After an SC event in my state a number of us were practicing and swapping guns to compare things on our last stage when I got hit the only real serious time. I loaned my G34 race gun to another Glock shooter (shooting his ammo) and was standing directly behind him and about 1' to the left when a piece of a jacket spun right past him and imbedded into my nose. Lucky I was wearing wrap-arounds. I have seen bullet jackets flatten out and become mini-shurikans. Thankfully in general the bigger the mass the shorter distance they go. But pieces from adjoining bays are more common from what I have seen. I have been hit by small pieces from the bay next door at almost every venue I have shot at.
  16. I used to shoot it 4-3-1-2-S exclusively but lately have been experimenting with 1-2-3-4-S with some guns at some events.
  17. Been to every world match since 2011 but not sure about this year. Depends on what leave I have left from work.
  18. I shoot 1,2,4,3,S with everything now on Accelerator. I used to shoot 4,3,1,2,S but Max proved to me that the other way is faster by, in my case, about .3-.4s in a CF draw. I do that with the rifles due to the way the stage is setup because I prefer to shoot the big transitions from L to R. Since I start with my eyes on the target and with the low ready firearm I don't like looking across the lowered rifle at a target on the right as the first one. By starting with the left most target when the start requires a large transition from low ready I start by aiming at the target, then drop the rifle to point at the cone while keeping my eyes on the initial target. That way I shoot the big transition in Accelerator from left to right, my best direction. In that direction my first shot splits average at .7s. Just about the only stages I don't shoot L to R, is the center box in Showdown and Speed Option. I sometimes shoot S&H 1,2,3,4,S and sometimes 4,3,1,2,S, depending on the weapon. Still while my best low ready run is 1.75s I am not consistent enough yet to get into the 7s stage times. Why I am still M in both RFRO and PCCO. I angle my feet so both point outside the ends of the target line with my L slightly forward, hunkering down slightly with weight forward. Then I snap a few practice moves up the first target and depending on where my natural POA is I may shift my feet slightly. As for Pendulum that was one of my toughest so I set it up in my backyard at the farm and shot it off and on for about 6 months, mainly rimfire and PCC.
  19. On a BM after a lot of rounds they usually need a mainspring replacement. That is what cured my issues after having 0 for almost 2 years.
  20. Weighs the same as my Browning Buckmark and FrankenRuger open guns (Buckmark might be an ounce lighter). I also never saw the advantage of shooting a 2011 22 conversion unless it was for muscle memory.
  21. I used a 15-22 from 2010-2014 in SC and RC. Final setup was S3G trigger, Taccom CF handguard, C-More, Allchin comp, Magpul Fixed Carbine stock. Never had an issue with it. But impossible to get the weight below about 4 lbs. 12 oz. Built an AR-22 instead. Same trigger, optic, and handguard, Taccom CF stock, Taccom alloy shrouded barrel, Taccom BCG parts, Mag Tech magnesium alloy LR. Result was 3 lbs. 0 oz. However due to a personal issue with Taccom I have not shot it in competition. Then built a 10/22. Kidd trigger, VQ UL CF barrel, Axiom stock, C-More, VQ CNC bolt, VQ FB comp. Result was 3 lbs. 4 oz. That is what I shoot today. Like my pistols I use 10 rd. mags only so the firearm starts out each run at the same exact weight (AR-22 used 15 Rd BDM mags loaded to 10). A few things different in the pictures as these are from experimental times.
  22. One reason I built a custom Ruger instead of doing a 1911 22 (and BJ recommended it). Mine shoots almost everything 100% but I only use 40/36g MiniMags in matches because it never fails to fire (maybe one in a 1000 does not). Everything else is for practice. For my custom 10/22 it only gets AR-Tactical for matches and AutoMatch for practice.
  23. I don't know. I use the MVB 9mm type SMG type stock and it comes with a short buffer tube, buffer, and a double buffer spring setup. It works is all I know.
  24. 17 yards for SCSA, and a little longer for other matches if I bother.
