  1. Bill, How many times do you shoot 38super then before throwing it out?
  2. What kind of 38 super do you have? Marvel makes a top end that goes on just about any 1911 variation inc. S_I widebody guns. Accuracy is excelent and they are very reliable. http://www.marvelprod.com/beauty.htm might want to consider
  3. Good point midvalleyshooter but if I were to use a PC9 or PC4, I'm already set up to load. To switch to something like 30 carbine or even 223 would mean buying factory ammo. Convienence, that's all.
  4. Dave, I also shoot a 40 for SC but use frangible bullets, 125gr. I think they make them in 45. For SC they are the S*it. No flying bits of lead or jacketing to hit you or anyone else. But the real great thing is you can load them light to get almost no muzzell rise, which helps on followup shots as well as plate to plate. I shoot the 40 125gr with 3.0 gr Clays @ 1.110 OAL in an STI EDGE. I use a 7lb recoil spring and the gun is as reliable as can possibly be. Do not know the velocity. But since there is no real pf issues, I go based on feel. I went through about 25 differnt combinations of bullets and powder to get this one and I really like it.
  5. Patrick, Does that mean that you would ideally like a lighter bullet? How about 95gr ?
  6. I agree with Kath with one exception - the scope The last time I checked, Doug Koenig shoots a tube and he seems to do allright. I have also noticed that several other top shooters use the c-more while others use the slide mounted optima/firepoint. I think that you need to look at what works for you. But Kath is right on about not getting one from unknown gunplumber. You will have nothing but problems.
  7. Carlos, what is the twist on the barrel ?
  8. Kath, The mini14 might feel wierd at first but the real problem is the mag changes. it doesn't go in straight. not to mention the release is a little awkward being underneath. Unless you live in The Peoples Republic of California stick with an AR. Or so I'm told by those with far more expierence than me.
  9. I shot a classifier that required 4 magazines due to mandatory reloads. I happen to have 5 for shooting the steel challenge so I was fine but other than that one stage, I do not think I used more than 2 the rest of the day. I shoot limited in 40S&W using a STI pistol
  10. I live in CA and Erik is right, the CA DOJ has a bunch of laws desgined to prevent "unsafe" handguns from being sold or made in CA. Most will say the laws do not do anything except make it harder to sell a gun in CA. I have a CA EDGE from STI. Works flawless. It did come with a titainium firing pin and a SS guide rod.
  11. OK, finally a topic I can be considered an expert on my three suggetions: do not to keep score. Drink heavily, if you like. Smoke a good cigar.
  12. gm iprod, How is the PC9 & PC4 for accuracy?
  13. Big Dave, I use them for steel challenge loads. I get them from Grams. I really like them for steel plate shooting for the same reason as Bevin; no splatter. As for IPSC loads, if you like shooting a light bullet real fast, they do not get any lighter.
  14. gm iprod, fwiw - 38 supercomp can be loaded with a 380 acp shellplate and 38 super dies.
  15. I got really lucky and hooked up with someone who has a lot of experience. He is an IPSC GM with over 10 years in the sport. Aside from having extra gear I can borrow or try out before I buy, he has been an excelent teacher of both the mental as well as physical parts of shooting. He has been able to save me 1,000's of $ and hours of time by narrowing down decisions to 2 or 3 options, mostlty based on $'s or feel. He also knows everyone, which is neat too See if you can do the same.
  16. Chriss -you truly are a man of knowledge. you are 100% right about the home gunsmith part. If you want relaibility (and who doesn't) a professional job is key. And the most overlooked part of the gun is the magazine. Have them tuned by an expert just like your gun. Bevin Grams at Grams Eng. is the hot ticket in that arena if you ask me.
  17. As far as PF goes, for an "open" class, why even have it. We all know with the comps on the open guns PF is sort of useless. A 165PF loads shoots just as flat as 130. Doesn't it?
  18. I was in the market for a new shotgun to use in competition and when I saw the SX2 practical, I said what the heck. It was about 900 out the door with tax & dros.
