  1. gm iprod, perhaps not the right place for this but .. My current "project" is a Ruger PC9 for IPSC 3-gun. I am still making some modifications but will be staring my load development soon. I have both the WW 540 and VV 350 in my stock of powders. I also have plenty of 9mm 115 JHP projectiles. What are your loads to get 1500 fps ? I would really like a starting point. Please inc. the crimp and Overall Length too. Have you tried anything heavier like a 124gr JHP ?
  2. nice touch with the pencil Duane. I've been known to use a case with only a primer to do the same. I think that the pencil might be a bit less noisy.

    Tasco

    too bad, I wonder why?
  4. Francis, I think the reason Ian asked was to find out if there was some equivalent to the S_I for production. To follow the post by Flex, the Glock would seem to be it. All you need to do is ask 9mm or 40 S&W ( or both;) )
  5. Back to the original Q, I know that I shoot what I shoot because when I started,I took advise from someone else. He shoots a STI so that is what I shoot. That simple. He happens to be a GM so I am not one to question him (often ) I know that if he shot a Glock in competition, I would too.
  6. Big Dave, I second Shooter40 on the Grams Eng. thing. BasePads, Springs, Followers and Tuning. The whole 9 yards.
  7. Profanity is a peculiar thing. I use it, on occasion, when I shouldn't. I would really like to be able to find a different word or expression but like BigDave's quote said, "When you are trying to paint a picture with words, sometimes you have to use all of the colors."
  8. FYI, Steel Challenge use 3 x 3 boxes everywhere except on Outerlimits which uses 4 x 4 boxes.
  9. Old Shooter, When I fist got started in this handgun shooting thing it was Steel Challenge with a Springfield Single Stack 9mm. Lightened, comped and scoped. very nice. Any 9mm will work well, but the 1911 has soooo many parts available. One thing to consider, the steel loads only need to be 125pf and I'm not so sure that a comp would be necessary. Try it w/o first and see if you can develop a load. Would be one less thing to buy. Good Luck!!
  10. I use the wilson, bought from brianenos.com of course, and have been happy with them. I run only one. Has not affected the feeding or relaibility of the gun one bit. Some people have said that they are not as soft as others which makes them hold up longer. I would guess that is a good thing. I know that Brian would not sell them if they weren't the best.
  11. reloading certainly saves money, but the real advantage is that you can shoot the loads that are the most reliable and accurate for your gun. even if you go low budget, say a Square Deal or 550 (from http://www.brianenos.com of course) you will pay your self back quick. And the gun will run better to boot.
  12. Cypher, There is a post on the springs forum about the trigger pull issue. Short version - yes , it will make it lighter as there is not as much pressure on the sear that must be overcome. As for springs online, I like the http://www.speedshooter.com a little cheaper than most ( $6.50 vs $ 7.90 ) plus Rene sells lots of other things that you might want, like Shock Buffs ( Sorry Brian )
  13. I got one of those "Super Knifes" from Dillion and let me tell you, for an everyday, cutting boxes and opening bags knife, it is the SH*T. For those who are not fammiar with it, the actual blade is a utility knife blade and is replaceable. I hate a dull knife and I hate sharpening them even more, so to replace the blade, just remove an allen screw. And if you lose it, or it gets "borrowed", you are only out $20. not $120. Maybe not good for duty use, but for me, it is perfect.
  14. Ian, here is my 2 pennies. If $ are an issue, buy one gun then the next is their stock or factory configuartion and practice as is. Then have modifications as you can afford. Since the political climate can change and result in more restrictive laws, I would say buy an AR-15 ASAP. I live in CA and wish I had. There are plenty of preban magazines available now, and since they are not making any more, it would be less expensive now than in the future.
  15. Storm is correct. 20 ga minimum and both 12 & 20 are scored the same, major I suppose. The biggest reason that most do not shoot anything but 12 is due to aftermarket parts availability. No more no less. (Edited by warpspeed at 10:48 am on May 14, 2002)

Which spring? Main Spring or Recoil Spring? What kind of gun ? open or Ltd ?
  17. Shred, OUTSTANDING!!! Looks like I have a project for this weekend
  18. Thanks PJB, I had not looked at their site in a while. I'm glad to see they are making stuff for Win SX2.
  19. The only one I have seen that even mentions the Win/Browning shotguns is Briley. They offer gunsmithing as well as some aftermarket stuff like mag ext & bolt handles and firing pins. I guess Cooley uses them because they offer the "Bennie Cooley Signature for Browning Shotgun".
  20. I haven't changed anything yet. Do you think it needs it?
  21. I haven't shot mine all that much. Maybe 300 rds. I use the Win AA superhandicap 7.5's and it has run perfect. Have you done anything to the trigger or anything else to make it smoother or more reliable?
  22. yaquina, Brian is right (as usual) you will find lots of info on the subject here. I have been accused of having way too much money to spend , and not wanting to disappoint, I bought a 11, 12 and 13lb spring set for my STI Edge. I decided I like the 11 but thats just me. I like how the gun returns to the sight picture.
  23. If you do not want to beat up your frame an slide, then you must put in a shock buff!!! $5.95 vs. $300+ ? no question about it if you are shooting major loads.
  24. Blum5, i'm curious, what were you using before? I used to use a 14# but went to an 11# w/ a shockbuffer. I like it so much better than the 14#. I assume that you are shooting IPSC major loads, right?
  25. Sidetracker, I shoot a limited 40 for Steel Challenge and load way down on the pf scale. I was looking for accuracy, slide speed and low recoil. With a floor being in place for IPSC, that is where I would start. Try different loads at about 1100 ft/sec with a 115gr JHP. Check out Jeff Maass' website. It has lots of loads for 38 super including minor ones. http://home.columbus.rr.com/jmaass/index.html good luck
