  1. Josh, If you want a real low mount, check out Grams Engineering's Tube mount. It is about as low as you can go. http://www.gramseng.com
  2. A friend of mine got one about a year ago and it is real sweet. The only disc. I have seen was a 10% off cert handed out to the first 50 shooters (or something like that) at this years Steel Challenge.
  3. I shoot 9mm loaded on a 1050 and 40 S&W loaded on a 550. For regular match ammo, I use roll sized brass and the Dilion Size & Crimp dies. All ammo passes Dilion Case Guage. [shameless plug mode on] Roll sized brass from http://www.competitionbrass.com of course.
  4. If it will be a permanent conversion, I would suggest re-barreling to 9mm. It is easier to work up a minor load and much cheaper brass as well. Since it is a 38super slide, the slide will also work for 9mm, the extractor just needs to be tuned to a rimless case.
  5. One little bit of info... Dillon offers a 1 year warranty on the motor. Unfortunately, I had ne go bad. They require you to send the unit back for motor replacement. FWIW
  6. my 2cents, I reload pistol ammo because it is way cheaper and you can tune the load for accuracy and feel. I do not see the same savings or benefit in shotgun shells. If you shot 500 rds a week on the trap range, maybe. But 1 box once a month at a 3 gun match? Tell me if I'm wrong..........please. (becasue I'd love to buy more stuff!!!!) 7. Look at what bagmaster has to offer. http://www.bagmaster.com/ I won a gift cert at The SteelChallenge and the item I ordered, The Mini range Bag Deluxe, is very nice!! Not what you are looking for but I'm sure they have something big enough for you. I am a firm believer in supporting those who support us so if not Bagmaster then look at one of the other Mfg's that donate prizes or sponsor matches.
  8. Shooter40, Key word is LESS. It is always OK (aka preferred) to spend more Twix, Yes, inital purchase only.
  9. SAW, My rule of thumb is to never spend less on a gun than your rent/mortage payment Buy a S_I and don't look back....................
  10. I use both a Dillion and a Hornaday. The Dilion is way better, way better. And the separator is the SH@T!! As far as the tumbler goes, the dilion is a little louder. But the garage has yet to complain
  11. The "option" is really only a scoring thing. Shoot all five targets, stop plate last.
  12. I saw TGO practicing the far to near technique on 5 to go, and like BE said, it was freaky. I tried it, of course I shot the match back to front though. Not something to change at the last minute.
  13. I have one and love it. I used it for the first time at the Steel Challenge and did not have any of the locking problems described above. For me, it is very secure and very fast. I have never had it "lock" . But I do not walk around the range with my gun in the holster either. It gets bagged, every time.
  14. Chris, You hit the nail right on the head. You have to use what feels comfortable to you. The last thing you want is to be standing on the line and have your glasses feel out of sync. Bad, very bad. You would not wear a certain cleat just because everyone else does unless they fit right. Glasses are the same way. I found the Oakleys fit me perfect so I stopped looking. I assure you, if they did not fit 100%, I'd still be looking for some that did.
  15. I know that Arredondo Accesorries makes soem optimat/firepoint mounts designed to be imbeded in the slide. They do them for S_I and 1911 guns, I would think Ralph could do it for a CZ. Check out their Web Site http://www.arredondoaccessories.com/
  16. I bought my Oakleys from http://www.backcountrystore.com M-Frame Sweep with gray lens. I have not noticed any scratches on them so far. The nice thing about them is that you can get different lens. I looked at the shooting array set. A little too much money for glasses. For $ 100, you can get the basic glasses. add another $ 30 for clear or persimon for days when it is not so sunny and you are good to go.
  17. The weather was perfect. I watched TGO practice on Thursday and shoot on Saturday and let me tell you, he was impresive. He said that he shot something like 1400 rounds in practice. So for those who ask how much ammo to bring toa major match for practice, there is you answer. He looked very smooth. One little story about TGO, On Smoke and Hope, he was shooting very well. If I recall correctly, a 2.16, 2.20 and a 2.12. Then he misses a plate and the stop plate and shoots a 2.99. You get to throw out one but instead of just putting in another low 2, he pulls a 1.99 out for his 5th string. It was impressive. When Doug won last year, I don't think he won a single stage either. The guys who can go real fast tend to have more inconsistent times overall. Like dump said, the prize table was excellent, even for those of us at 100+. I got well more than $ 240 in prizes and had fun too.
  18. I use a STI aluminium one in black on both my open steel gun and my LTD IPSC gun. I have an EGW on my open IPSC gun but only because it came that way as a used gun. One of my shooting buddies has Smoking Hole Magwells on all his STI's. I really can't tell much of a difference. One thing to keep in mind about the STI Magwell, it is not a simple add on. You (or someone else) must profile the inlet of the grip to match the magwell otherwise there will not be a smooth transition. Also, once you make a mod to the grip,it may preclude you from switching to another. I think that once you put on one of the Smokinghole Magwells you can't go back.
  19. I have chosen to stick with a single platform. I shoot a STI framed gun for USPSA/IPSC (Open & Ltd)and Steel Challenge (Open). I have a Colt Gold Cup in 45 (got to have at least one Colt in the safe, right? ) but I do not think I'll ever shoot it in competition unless I decide to tryout IDPA. But I think if I got into it seroiusly, I shoot an STI.
  20. I'm with Brian. I'm shooting the Steel Challenge with new brass. Everything else, once fired roll sized from http://www.competitionbrass.com After loading, checked with a Dillon Stainless Case Gage, boxed and inspected for primer seating. I would feel very comfortable shooting a major match, but I think that the extra $ 29 is well worth it.
  21. Neil, Are you going to hunt a boar with the shotgun?
  22. 2cats, What Brian said. FWIW, I replaced my stock STI rear with a Wilson from brianenos.com because I got tired of replacing the pivot pin. It broke about every 500 rds or so.

    Tasco

If you are looking for an Optima, JP Enterprises has started importing them from whoever it is that makes them. Rene at Speed Shooters Intl has them. http://www.speedshooter.com
  24. Gary, I checked my STI Edge and it came with a 21 pound spring (or so I was told). I first replaced it with a 19 pound and have since replaced it with a 17. I also have replaced the Firing Pin with w Limcat extra long one available from http://www.speedshooter.com of course . Zero ignitions problems. Good Luck
  25. Call or email STI's customer service folks, they will know. customerservice@stiguns.com
