  1. LOL... Yeah, this one was a stinker
  2. Thanks. Even one of the local GMs took a couple of shots, but he was able to correct himself
  3. Tricky little stage this weekend requiring the shooter to pick either targets with standard black hardcover or red hard cover for the first string (1 round each freestyle\reload\1 round each stronghand), then on the second string (1 round each freestyle\reload\1 round each weakhand). I was so focused on shooting only one round per paper, reloading, then one more round (strong\weak) per paper that I totally forgot to switch to the other color even when the groans started on the second string. I couldn't figure out what was going on even though I hear the "nooo..., nooo..., nooo" from the crowd. Getting no points on the stage dropped me to last place (9th) in open for the day Bottom line: Make sure you understand the entire course of fire before stepping up to the line Here is the video complete with groans (queued up to that stage)...
  4. Finishing my second season of USPSA and my first year of shooting open. Finished 3rd overall thanks to everyone else going to Area 2 :-/
  5. Thanks for sharing the story and being so open to discussing it. I just upgraded from a 550 to a 1050 a few weeks ago and today I ordered an RF100 (before reading this post). Now that I have read the post I am glad that I will be using the reinforced tube, but realize that the danger still exists. When filling primer tubes and reloading I have always worn eye protection, but hadn't really thought about the damage that could occur to the hands (or other body parts). Your photos of the carnage are certainly eye opening. I hope you heal up fast and that nothing like this happens again. Take care...
  6. I just thought I would share my experiences with my new 1050. Bottom line: I have had no primer problems through the 1st 1000 rounds using all sorts of headstamps including nickle plated stuff. I run federal SP primers so I feared a crushed primer. I did have one primer that wasn't fully seated, but that was due to a piece of .40 brass that caused me to abort a stroke mid-stream and once I found it during my case gauging step (yes, I case gauge every round) I just put it back into the priming station and reseated it. I am running .38 Super, using an EGW undersized die and I kept the swaging station intact to help straighten out the occasional ding in the top of a case... Who knows, problems could surface for me but for now everything looks to be a go. Just wanted to share a positive story... Cheers, Allen
  7. I have an 1187 setup for Open with optic, tecloaders, arrendondo chute, and a Choate Pistol grip synthetic stock. I am new to tac-shotgun stuff, and plan to shoot some 3-gun matches next year. The tecloaders work pretty well, but with the pistol grip the angle seems a little steep and requires just the right touch to get lined up before I shove the rounds in... Do most folks using tecloaders prefer to use a standard stock? Does the pistol grip provide a significant enough competitive advantage to just deal with the loading challenges? Thanks in advance. Allen
  8. OK. That is very impressive... When someone asks me why I have 2 dillons I will refer them to this post
  9. Thanks for this info... I didn't realize that although I did notice the powder activator looked different. I think I will end up with the U-die in station 1 because sometimes I get a piece of brass (on my 550) that is noticably not going to pass the case gauge. If the U-die is in station 2 the case will move to the priming station where it looks difficult to remove easily. If I leave station 2 for swaging I can remove the case before it hits the primer stage if I notice it is "mushroomed"... I hope to get around to actually finishing the setup on the press this weekend... I have enough ammo made for the next few weeks so there isn't any major rush at this point. Cheers, Allen
  10. Thanks for the reply. I think I will give the 2- step resizing a try... Just curious, Is there any advantage to resizing twice? Cheers, Allen
  11. I found a couple of posts regarding using an undersized sizing die on a 1050, but would like to understand my options and the benefits of each. Because I was getting rounds that wouldn't case gauge on my 550 I installed the EGW undersized die and the problem mostly went away. So my gut tells me that I should have one on my 1050... Other than leaving it out on the 1050 it looks like I can replace the regular sizing die with the undersized one or install it in the next station. I am curious about how those with undersized dies on their 1050s have them setup. My 1050 is setup for 38 Super... Thanks, Allen
  12. I placed the order for my 1050 with Brian on Monday and the tracking info indicates it will arrive this Friday. My 550 w casefeeder runs like a champ and I average about 7 mins per 100, but really am looking forward to priming on the downstroke. Reading about all of the priming issues on the forum had me a little scared, but too many people I know swear by their 1050s . Like Thorpe, this thread has made me feel even better about the decision... Cheers, Allen
  13. Nice video that shows all the stages... link was a little messed up, but I found it. thanks for sharing...
  14. I am considering a 1050 and stumbled upon your thread. Just curious if your problem was resolved? I have to admit that I am going to do a lot more research before placing an order for a 1050 as I have had very few problems with my 550/casefeeder setup and want something that is an improvement over what I have vs. something that is a headache Cheers, Allen
  15. I was in the same squad as the L10 shooter who got the reshoot. The stage RO informed the shooter that it would be OK to use the magnet, which he did. Upon completion someone questioned the wording of the "RO Notes" section of the stage description, which said ammo must be stored "in retention devices" per 5.2.4 As a result, one of the quartermasters stopped by and said that use of a magentic retention device was not going to be allowed on the stage (and had been communicated to the ROs for the stage)... So the shooter was granted a reshoot because he shot the stage incorrectly based on the info provided by the stage RO. I think the reshoot was handled fairly, as the RO should have been ready for that question, but I am not sure that the use of a magnet should have been disallowed...
  16. I will add my thanks to everyone who was involved in making the match happen. I had a great time and felt like the match ran like clockwork. Cheers, Allen
  17. Nice work! I am looking forward to shooting the match Cheers, Allen
  18. Was #14 on the Open list and just paid! Sweet!
  19. I had a friend forward his email to me with all of the info (including my squadding info, etc.), but my email address was correct in that spreadsheet so the mail must have bounced or something. As long as I have the info I guess I will be fine...
  20. I did not get the email, but a friend forwarded his to me and I see my name on the squadding list. Hopefully I will get an official email at some point
  21. You can shove that 3"er where the sun don't shine!!! Here is a video of some star setups that they run at Warsaw from time to time: Star action starts around :50 I like the double star... Looks painful though
