@sarge - I actually got a call at home first because they Either couldn't read my email address or I forgot to put it on the application. I provided my email address and then I got the confirmation via email. I'm not saying that is the case with everyone but in my case it wasn't just an email notification. Hopefully you make it.

1050 and crushed primers
TGibe replied to Alan Adamson's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
Update. I setup a second toolhead for .40 and loaded 2k rounds. Had one crushed primer, but I think that was due to another problem that happens every so often - a case misfeeds onto the shell plate and hangs everything up for a split second before snapping forward. Will be setting up for .223 next. I am not sure if that will make a difference either. Just trying to lay out data points... -
Yeah. Sarge covers my main reason for converting - switching between iron sights and open is much easier for me. YMMV

I guess it depends on your perspective... I started with 38 Super because the entry cost was lower and I could pick up my brass most of the time. I just picked up a 9major rig and have started loading for that. The guns feel about the same to me, but like I said I was able to get into a 38 Super gun cheaper. Only time will tell if shooting 9major will be cheaper, but my guess is it will cost about the same or a little more if I leave the 9mm brass on the ground vs. picking up 80% of my supers per match. I have had reasonably good luck buying used 38Super brass, but have also bought some new brass occasionally.

1050 and crushed primers
TGibe replied to Alan Adamson's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
I assume it is correct. I have loaded over 15K 38Super rounds without a problem. Seems like I should have had a problem at some point with those rounds if an incorrect part was installed. Thanks, Allen -
I am now having crushed primer issues and have had to loosen the shellplate a little. I ordered a redding precision seating die to replace the dillon one as I am developing a load and monkeying with OAL a lot anyway. So far no noticeable changes in OAL, but it will continue to monitor. Cheers, Allen

1050 and crushed primers
TGibe replied to Alan Adamson's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
Alan, I appreciate your detailed documentation of this problem. I also like that you approach this issue very professionally and with the goal of solving the problem not only for yourself, but for all 1050 users. I was worried about this when I purchased a 1050 and loaded well over 15k rounds of 38Super without a single missed or crushed primer. However, I recently changed my press over to 9 major and within 1,000 rounds I have had 4 primers crushed as you describe. 2 of them detonated, but it thought that was due to incorrect shellplate tightness. After revisiting this thread I am convinced that I am seeing the exact same problem now... I am very paranoid about this right now and it is slowing my reloading to a crawl as I am inspecting a half dozen rounds per hundred in case a primer is crushed/smeared. Any suggestions as to the steps I should take to accurately identify my particular problem? Thanks, Allen -
Good point! I should have said it has "only" happened once so far. LOL

Want to add Mr. Bullet Feeder but don't want to lose powder check
TGibe replied to LoLeft's topic in 9mm/38 Caliber
Like others I use my built in powder check (eyeballs) and feel a lot better about it. The bullet feeder is worth it. Cheers -
170mm Plastic Spacers for STI Big Stick Magazine
TGibe replied to The_Vigilante's topic in Gear & Accessories
I ordered a set of plastic ones a couple of weeks ago from Dawson and got 2 out of 6. I must have gotten the last 2 LOL -
I have not used new starline nickel brass, but no problems with new starline 38 super +P brass with federal SPP on my 550 or 1050. Cheers

I bought a u-die out of habit when I started loading 9major, but after loading for month or 2 with the regular Dillon dies I haven't needed it. I case gauge every round before shooting and even with the u-die I would get about 1% failure out of 38Super. I am sure I will hit some that won't gauge at some point, but won't go U-die until I have to because of the extra force needed to resize. YMMV Cheers

1050 Priming System: What's All The Fuss About?
TGibe replied to gimpy's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
I was worried about messing with the priming system as well. Thought it would be impossible to get setup until I had to tear it apart once. Now it doesn't look so bad. I bought a SDB for .45 simply so I didn't have to deal with the priming system, but now realize it wouldn't be that bad. -
LOL. Did that once as well. Not fun.

My Journey To Getting Started In 3-Gun
TGibe replied to Pepper Stonewood's topic in Miscellaneous BEginners
Look around. At times we have Tac Rifle matches around here, which are just a chance to practice AR skills in an USPSA style setting. At times they have added a pistol\rifle stage so folks can practice both. Cheers, Allen -
On my 26" I went with the +8 extension and the XXL cap for a total capacity of 14 to start (12+1+1). I did the ghost load mod myself and did not find it too difficult. For Open I added the Burris speed bead, Arrendondo chute, and tecloaders. Stippled the stock and foregrip and am having a blast. Oh yeah, get a CRums lifter! Congrats!

That is amazing work in such a short time. Congrats!

If You Could Only Keep One......
TGibe replied to Lifeislarge's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
I sold my 550 to get a 1050, but voted 550 in this case because it is so easy to swap calibers. Like someone else said in hindsight I probably should have sold something else and kept both! -
Nice solution- especially for lg. primers.

Started with the wrong magazine... ran out of ammo
TGibe replied to NicVerAZ's topic in Match Screw-ups
Done similar in USPSA shooting Open. Sometimes I used to start with the small stick with the plan to load the big stick early in a long stage where it was more convienent. Forgot to reload and ran the gun dry, which causes a standing relaod. Now I start with a big stick and reload to another big stick in case I forget. -
Yeah, I had 2 in the course of about 15 rounds. Lots of ringning in my ears, but otherwise no damage. I had tightened my shellplate down to reduce OAL variations and I think I overtightened it. Best I can tell both were due to the case not lining up perfectly with the primer feeding and as I pulled toward the bottom of the downstroke - pop! The primers are Federal SPP and were a little sideways. Pulled the toolhead, shellplate, etc. (I had to to clean everything) and this time gave just a little more slack (1/16 of a turn maybe), and finished reloading without incident. I did put my sordins on though as it freaked me out. Anyone else run into this? I ask because I want to make sure I am on the right track. I have probably loaded 20k rounds of 38 super before changing over to 9major about 1000 rounds ago. Thanks, Allen

39 matches in the first year is great! Glad you are enjoying it. Cheers!
