  1. Congrats on getting into 3gun. This was my first year shooting 3gun as well and I managed 6 matches including MGM Ironman. Next year I am shooting for 10-12 3gun matches. Nice write up. Cheers
  2. Seems like this would be an opportunity for someone to make a similar mount. Not copy the design, but make something that accomplishes the same thing. I would buy a couple of them... Cheers.
  3. Great idea - I am going to see if I can make it. Having been a golfer for many, many years before shooting took over my life I always wondered why there weren't amateur categories and awards at matches. In golf it was very clear that to be considered an amateur you were not allowed any sponsorship at all. If you received any equipment\discount\etc in return for promoting a company you were a professional. You could wear companies logos to show your support, but you couldn't be compensated for it. Seems like this would fit in the shooting world at least to recognize high amateurs at a match... Cheers, Allen
  4. OK. I tightened up the shellplate, added case lube, and adjusted everything with all stations filled and the OAL variations settled down. another lesson learned :-)
  5. When I first starting loading I had a couple of squibs, one of which bulged (ruined) a limited gun barrel. Since that time I have watched every single time to make sure powder is in the case before the bullet goes on. And you know what? In 20,000+ rounds since then I haven't had a squib. I'm not saying it can't happen, but if you watch for powder every time you will catch it if there is no powder. My experience was that it would happen after a "stoppage" of the press where I would index without dropping powder or without being able to do a complete pull. My experience was financially painful so I am willing to spend the little bit of extra time checking each drop.
  6. After reading a couple of other threads I called Dillon and talked through the problem. Based on the discussion I may have my shell plate too loose and it is rocking. Additionally, I should probably set my OAL with the all of the stations active. Lot's of learning from me during my first 1050 conversion...
  7. I purchased a separate toolhead and started converting my 1050 from 38Super to 9Major and am experiencing a strange problem (at least to me): I set OAL to 1.172 and it varies between 1.168 and 1.176 during seating die adjustment (using mixed brass), which is fine. However, when I run more than 1 station the OAL jumps to 1.181-1.184 even though I bottom out the handle every time! Press setup is pretty vanilla; Dillon dies and Mr. Bulletfeeder (I am using the MR. B flaring funnel) I discovered this late last night and didn't make many changes to try and resolve as I was tired and felt I might chase my tail, but one thought I had was that either the Swage expander or Crimp die are too low (I did test and found that with a piece of brass in both of the last 2 stations the problem existed). Am I on the right track with the Crimp Die? Thanks
  8. Been looking for this racker as well. Looking forward to availability.
  9. The match was a lot of fun, the stages, ROs, and staff were great, and special thanks to all of the sponsors!
  10. Thanks! Yep. Production, Limited, Singlestack, 3-gun Open, and a belt to loan out. My other Open belt is in the trunk of the car
  11. 2 years ago I decided to convert a 10' x 11' section of my 3 car garage into a reloading/gun room. I chose the corner so I only had to build out 2 walls. There was also a heating and air plenum nearby so the room is climate controlled . I added electrical and 2 individually controllable sets of track lighting (one dedicated over the presses) and one over the bench. CATV is run to the room in case I decide to add a TV and the door is tied into our central alarm system. This spring I added a countertop work area to the room and moved my craftsman workbench to another part of the garage. When I built the support for the countertop I made sure to leave room underneath for 5 gallon bins, which I use to transport stuff to 3gun matches. The MDF shelves underneath added a ton of storage space. The materials to complete the walls was about $400 and the countertop project was about $300. So for about $700 I got a great reloading room! Much of the insipration for the room and countertop came from this thread so I thought I would post some pictures in hopes that it helps someone visualize what is possible.
  12. Aha! Good catch Brian! thx I will check and see if I have one in the powder measure assembly that I kept when I sold my 550 setup. If not, I will order one...
  13. My 1050 purrs along making 38 Super and I would like to experiment with 9-minor and 9-major loads. I picked up a spare toolhead a while back. I also have a spare powder assembly and 9mm dies laying around. Looks like 38Super and 9mm use the same caliber conversion parts... Am I right to assume that to swap between 38 Super and 9mm would only require a swap of the toolhead assembly? Once the toolheads are each adjusted properly is there any additional tweaking generally required for this type of swap? thanks, Allen
  14. I am generally inclined to experiment, and I don't recall how I came across that idea, but just a few shots put my mind to rest. As I mentioned, I shot the whole season like that, with perfect zero issues, and no single malfunction of any kind. Just relaying my personal experience, not trying to convince anyone. Thanks for the info. Did you switch back and forth or just stay with 9major? I was thinking of running 9 at practice and local matches and 38 super at bigger matches... Cheers.
  15. Interesting thread. I have two 38 Super open guns and have gotten tired of picking brass after matches (usually only get about 60% anyway). I have shot a couple of mags of 9 major through my gun without problems. Would like to rebarrel for 9 major, but if the only risk is wearing out the current barrel, which I would be abandoning anyways, why not just shoot 9 major through it until accuracy of functionality suffered? However, it just seems wrong...
  16. Mailed my app a few weeks ago. No confirmation yet, but hoping to get in... Sounds like fun.
  17. I found this load to be very soft, especially when I started out at 4.6 grains... you may want to try it (working up from a lower charge) and see if it is enough.
  18. I used this thread as a starting point http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145028&st=0&p=1635139&hl=230%20n320&fromsearch=1entry1635139 However, I wasn't super happy with the N320 load for a couple of reasons: 1 - It was hard to see the small amount of powder in the .45 case and I like to visually verify every powder drop. 2 - It seemed to me that I was getting inconsistant burn (probably due to the small charge) and therefore varying velocities. Good luck
  19. Thanks Doug. I trusted your opinion when I bought the JP rifle and you were right, so I have to give you extra credit on this one as well I will have to give opticsplanet a call and see what they have available...
  20. Currently running a Vortex Viper PST 1-4 and am looking for a little more magnification as I approach my 50th birthday Want to get the Swaro, but with an offset dot on my open rifle I am thinking I will save the money and get the Z6 without the illumination. I don't see myself shooting tac-optics down the road, but maybe there is some reason I should get the Z6i that I am missing... Looks like the difference is close to $500 between the two. I could also use a reccomendation on a place to purchase, etc. (via PM is fine if this is a no-no in the general forums)... Want a good price, but also want to deal with a reputable swaro dealer. Thanks!
