  1. Dan,

I hope that you are not getting completely out of shooting? I already have 3 650s or I might jump on this one!

  2. Looks like an early Model 10 with a pinned bbl and probably a recessed cylinder. Rain gutter sights and possibly a 6" bbl but most were 4" bbls. Someone added a slab side comp shield that uses allen screws to tighten to the barrel. Can you get some pix of the other side and the cylinder open and measure the bbl and give us what the trigger pull is? Because of the comp, this is considered an Open gun in USPSA, it is illegal altogether for IDPA. However, it is a perfect gun for shooting plate racks or the Steel Challenge. billsahlberg@hotmail.com
  3. Patrick, Think of the forcing cone as a funnel, it just gets the bullet start into the bbl. The last .0005 is where your accuracy will come from as the bullet is leaving the bbl, rather than entering it. I shoot a S&W 627 with 38 Colt Shorts and "freebore" 3/4" (.750) before the bullet even touches the forcing cone and accuracy is still awesome after 50K+ rounds Bill Sahlberg USA
  4. Tim, Does this mean that there will be no DPMS Tri-Gun at Del-Tone/Luth Range in 2011? Bill Sahlberg www.HigherCapacity.us
  5. Let Open shotguns be Open shotguns......not Limited Open, like it is now with a +2 advantage overLimited and HM with a 11 rnd count....that is like making a Limited 40 pistol only be able to carry 13 rnds, they were originally designed are mfg to carry more!
  6. Open shotgun should have no limits on ammo, magazine tube length, or barrel length. An Open Saiga does not need a limit on ammo. In Iron Sight Rifle, shooters can hook up a 100 rnd Beta-Mag and not be declared Open.....

  7. While I shoot many "outlaw" matches, I am most hopeful that USPSA's newest surge will reflect a change that accepts these "outlaw" matches and will take the best from these only to incorporate them into the USPSA MG matches. My 1st USPSA 3 Gun Nats was in 1991, where I met Michael Voigt. He was shooting for Eagle Arms and had outright won those Nats in Marysville, WA. I just like 3 Gun / MG as these make one proficient with all 3 guns. I am just a 'B' USPSA Open shooter, however, I shoot both SG & rifle much better. Please do not "throw out the baby with the bath water" but continue to give your input to your Area Director so that the changes that need to be made, will be addressed. I am shooting on Squad 2 with my Army son, SSG Adam Sahlberg who placed 16th overall when he was just 15 years old....he has 8 years of Army under his belt and has promised to open a "Can of Whoop Ass" on me :-) Bill Sahlberg L1283
  8. June 19 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is 5 stage Long Gun (no pistol)event @ www.sppl.us and September 25-26 is the 19th Annual Inland Empire 3 Gun at the same location.
  9. R&R Targets builds these actuators, go to www.randrracingonline.com or call Robert @ 503-551-7283
  10. Unless you are palnning to shoot major PF why ruin your revolver by machining it away to a caliber that died out years ago? Your 38 Super will already shoot 38 Colt Shorts and fit the moon clips that are available. Minor is the only way to shoot steel....BTW, your 9X23 will shoot 38 Super too!
  11. I use ONLY Starline Brass as it is the most consistent brass I have found and have 15+ reloads (minor) and these still fit my full moon clips very good...in both 45 and 38
  12. I shoot 130 gr RN 356 Montana Gold bullets with 4.6 gr Universal Clays, a Federal 100 primer, Starline Brass, and a 1'100" OAL. This load is @ 132 PF at 1050 FPS and very very accurate. I can shoot 1000 rnds and not have to swab out my cylinder. I am unsure what load to advise on 147 but this is so clean compared to my years of using Bullseye......
  13. Hogue makes a customized Big Butt like the one Tetsu Murada had on his revo that is flat and 2" down from your frame. I looked into one but the $150 was more than I can handle....besides, shooting offhand saves me time and I like the challenge of real PPC. Bill Sahlberg
  14. This gun looks really nice and the gunsmithing from Pinnacle is superb. However, it is the last .0005" of any barrel that steers the bullet, not the first few inches. Back in the 1970s we were taking .357s and doing the same to create less "freebore" in our 148 gr HBWC to improve accuracy. It made little or no difference. I now shoot a 627 8X357 with 38 Colt Shorts in minor and have exceptional accuracy with a gun that freebores more that 3/4"! Look at the 2007 Area 1 results on the Standards stage, it is the only stage I won and I was shooting this load in minor against all the others shooting major.......
  15. The 627 8 shot .357 WILL LOAD AND FIRE ACCURATELY 38 Super reloaded on an EGW undersized die with Brownell's 38 Super full moon clips. One gun can work for both!
  16. Bill, what kind of velocity do you get from your load (and from what barrel length)? 1075-1100 fps with excellent grouping. 627 has a 5" bbl
  17. My 1st S&W was a Model 64 4" SS adj sights that I had used for PPC, had 100K+ and traded it away...PPC loads were 3 gr Bullseye under a 148 gr HBWC @ 700 fps always shot accurately and back then PPC meant 24 rnds at 50 YDS (not 50 feet) I have had 25+ revos, mostly S&Ws because they are like my Benelli, nothing ever goes wrong with them. I bought 3 S&W 627s (8 shot .357) the first year they came out through Lew Horton ($735 ea. :-) One has 75K+ with 38 Colt Shorts loaded with Montana Gold 130 gr RN bullets @ 1100 fps without having to replace anything. I did buy a Fiber Optic front sight a few years ago because of my aging eyes. No springs, no firing pin breakage, and I even clean it every 1000 rnds. BEST DAM GUN I EVER OWNED!!!
  18. Chris, Use a good "bastard" file with the same strokes on each side! Gunsmithing 101 :-)
  19. Yes, they work fine in HKS or both types of Safariland Speed loaders and have for me since 1996 when I started shooting 38 Colt Shorts. My load is Starline 38 Colt Short Brass, Federal 100 primer, 4.6 gr Univ Clays, 130 gr Montana Gold .356 RN, with a .002 crimp (tight) at 1.100" OAL. I can shoot 1,000 rnds between cleaning out my gun, it burns that clean and is very accurate!
  20. Lee, I have shot and played with revos since 1975. I have champhered many cylinders and done lots of trigger jobs. Sometime in the early 1990s I had learned enough from my mistakes to acually do some pretty fair work....... Some things are better off with a real gunsmith doing, you can make more mistakes in accidentally "butchering" your revolver than it would have cost to to have a gunsmith do it in the first place....just my .02....
  21. Kevin, I make both 32 rnd and 45 rnd "Higher Capacity" magazines for all makes of 308, these magazines that you saw couldn't have been any uglier than mine :-) Bill
  22. Carlos, We shot 8 stages today with low 70s and overcast weather and were off the range at 3PM. Very challenging and fun 8 stages with great ROs. Today was all pistol and some SG / pistol and one SG only with Doug Hartley as the RO with 22 shots. Young Tim Hawkins (age 16) shot this stage in 25 seconds, the 2nd fastest time of the day, including the infamous Polish 8 plate rotating plate rack with a borrowed Saiga SG because his dad's Saiga SG gun puked :-) Tommorrow is the 4 stages of rifle and SG, we should be done with the whole Match including the Auction Table Benefit by 3:00PM Sunday. Bill Sahlberg
  23. Tom Kelly is in charge and has always helped me with a great deal of professonalism. May I make a suggestion? While I understand your frustration, your tone may cause more harm than good as S&W has really stepped up to the plate the past few years. Guess what, mistakes happen and we are all human...... I ran a company for 21 years and learned that in customer service that " a spoonful of sugar always goes further than a pound of shit" Bill Sahlberg
  24. If the SGM doesn't drink barley soda's, I will be more than happy to take his place :-) Although this was my first Hoerner Scoring match, I liked it as it rewarded accuracy over the "hoser mode". I have shot USPSA Nationals since 1991 and this match was a better test of ones skills than any Nats I have been to. The article written soon after this match by the USPSA President reflected his view of "Outlaw" matches second hand from a well known shooter who had talked with him, MV was NOT present at this match and his articles view of the outlaw matches was meant as a general attack against all NON-USPSA Multi-Gun matches, not just this Match. With this Hoerner scoring method and most of the rifle targets being 25-100 FEET away, I am not one to see accuracy being a "challenge" at this distance without adding a value to these targets. This scoring system took nothing away from targets at 100 -380 YARDS either where a rifle becomes a "precision" tool. I have been to both matches and weather was good, ROs were friendly, prize distribution was good, and above ALL the sponsors were promoted better than any match that I had been to for years. I will be back, along with a few more shooters from SPPL, and look forward to having a good time with this Match and all the shooters again. Bill Sahlberg
