  1. Hi Larry...I could tell you what I'm doing...but what I'm doing really won't help you out much. I'm switching to Rainier TMJ's for match ammo and will be switching to a lubed lead bullet for practice.
  2. What I don't like are the questions which there are two answer to (based on exceptions). One of the questions on the exam went something like: "Can a Long course that is not a standards or classifier, require a mandatory reload?" For level II and above, the answer would be NO based on 1.1.5 and 1.1.5.2 however for Level I matches (club matches) the answer would be YES based on 1.1.5 and 1.1.5.1 (which is the exception to "freestyle requirements" in 1.1.5). Hopefully whoever grades these things takes "exceptions" into consideration. This entire issue with 1.1.5/.1/.2/.3 was discussed recently on the IPSC list. I know what the right answer is...but I don't know if THEY know what the right answer is.
  3. Doing the RO recertification exam huh? I got the same question. No, and thats the number.
  4. Try this for coordinates: 33d 29' 22"N, 111d 37' 26" W If you squint.....you can see TGO shooting!
  5. you may have to switch to a slower powder. I had the same problem using Clays and MasterBlaster bullets (moly/poly coated). Word is that the faster powders burn off the coating and exposes the back of the bullet ......which then melts slightly as the bullet goes down the barrel depositing lead along the way.....about 150 rounds later....keyholing! You may find decreasing the load a .1gr might help or not. In my case, I dropped from 4.2 (major) to 4.0 (practice load only). It still leads...but not as bad. I've since switched to Rainier bullets for match ammo and use the Masterblaster bullets for practice....ONLY.
  6. yeah...but that would be "range equipment failure" and then you'd have to do it all over again! here's my (crappy) pepper popper haiku: pepper poppers suck they don't fall when I shoot them I loose challenge, argh!
  7. ....and they WILL hang out in L10! I'm gunnin' for ya in Albany 2006 Sam!
  8. I've shot this one now at two different clubs back to back. Shot it the same way both times (start on the right rear target and shoot 4 targets coming to the center....then left rear and work toward the front. First match was 57 points in 6.85 seconds Second match was 58 points in 6.73 seconds but had a mike (on the center most target...I saw the sights lift over the left shoulder as I fired the shot trying to speed the reload up as much as possible...I knew it immediately when it happend and it killed my motivation). Both runs were in Limited 10 using a single stack.
  9. Ok...well since we've opened up the door, I think this would be a good time to address 4.3.1.5 (plates which fall or turn due to shots on the supporting appratus...are grounds for mandatory reshoot). As some of you may recall this was a major problem on one of the stages at Area 1 in Missoula. I think I had about 20 reshoots due to hits on the plate stand. As many shooters noticed, this rule provides a "safety valve" if the shooter happens to tank something prior to engaging the steel plates (i.e. hit on a no shooter, missed target, gun problem). Because of this rule, steel plate stands really need to be redesigned so this problem can't happen and thats going to place a burden on all the clubs to change their equipment. So if we're opening the rule book back up....maybe it would be a good time to address this now. I'm not exactly sure what the answer is (maybe we just go back to the way it was before).
  10. I'll second that comment. They built my gun and I'm very happy with the results.
  11. Ditto! I'm probably somewhere between 10k - 20k on an EGW Tungsten guiderod in my Springfield and haven't had any problems....I do run a CP shok-buff with it however. George is a really good guy. I'm sure if you contact him, he'll replace it right away.
  12. While I had never met Steve...I feel that we share a certain bond. Steve and I share the same birthday...Steve and I both shoot Limited 10 (actually it's all I shoot), Steve and I have the same professional background (computer engineering)...both our last names have 5 letters. Its really kinda ironic. I started following Steve's progress as he started climbing the ladder in L10....I wish I could have met him.
  13. To become the best possible Limited 10 shooter I can possibly be.
  14. I belive the mainsprings on Springfields ILS guns are shorter than "stock" in order to deal with the ILS changes.
  15. Its a good thing there was only one stage that required a math test or I would have really been in trouble during the match! The stages were great...and the weather was perfect! For anyone who missed this match...you missed a good one. My understanding is that the new record for stats is now under one minute! Way to lower the bar Bruce!
  16. thanks Mark! I'm not "match staff" so since overall's don't get uploaded with the match results, the only way I can see overalls is if I create them myself by massaging the data.
  17. That part, actually, is a piece of cake http://www.zabasearch.com/ Bruce <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Holy Crap! Well I guess you learn something every day!
  18. Ok..thanks Rob...last time I checked, it didn't work (even after entering via the members page). Yeah...if you could reactivate the "ascii results" section, I'd be grateful. Presently that's the only way I can calculate overall match results. I group the stage results together, then bring the data into Excel and then manipulate it there....its a lot of work but until EZwinscore provides "overall" results....its the only way I know how to do it.
  19. I had originally posted this in the Reshoots thread...but thought it was a thread drift so I decided to give it a life of its own...... I'm going to quote both US4.1.3.5 and US4.3.1.6 at the end of this message for reference. Lets start with US4.3.1.6, here the use of "metal target" has to apply to plates. If metal targets applied to poppers...then according to US4.3.1.6, a hit on a popper that didn't fall would require that the RO calls "REF" and a reshoot would be given and we all know thats not the case. Now lets look at US4.3.1.5. ...and take it apart line by line. Metal targets must be shot and fall or overturn to score. that's always been the case Metal targets which accidentally turn edge-on or sideways that has to be about a plate...poppers can't turn on edge or sideways or which fail to fall or overturn when hit I'm going to leave this alone for a minute..but note the use of the word "or".....and if you know a bit about logic (what "or" means, what "and" means....what "not" means)...I'll make my case or which a RO deems to have falled or overturned....talks about metal plate stands clearly!!! Will be treated as range equipment failure which is always ground for a reshoot "OR" logic means that any one of the conditions could be met and the statement is true. AND logic says that all the conditions have to be true to make the statement true. So lets rewrite US4.3.1.5 leaving out some non-applicable OR's US4.3.1.5 Metal targets must be shot and fall or overturn to score. Metal targets which fail to fall or overturn when hit, will be treated as range equipment failure. (see Rule 4.6.1). I've removed the part about turning on edge (because that's a metal plate) and the part about "fallen or overturned" (because that's about a metal plate stand) and kept the rest. According to what I have left...any metal target (plate or popper) which fails to fall or overturn when hit, will be treated as range equipment failure......which would require a reshoot. But this statement is in direct conflict with popper challenges outlined in Appendix C1.... so it can't be true...therefore in US4.3.1.5, "metal targets" must apply to plates and not poppers. Makes sense? If this is the case...I don't think an RO should stop the shooter when it comes to poppers which don't fall on multiple hits. We've already got a process to deal with that (Appendix C). If the shooter thinks there's a problem with the popper after multiple hits, they should leave it and challenge it after the COF has ended. US4.3.1.5 Metal targets must be shot and fall or overturn to score. Metal targets which accidentally turn edge-on or sideways or which fail to fall or overturn when hit, or which a Range Officer deems have fallen or overturned due to a shot on the apparatus supporting them or for any other reason, will be treated as range equipment failure. (see Rule 4.6.1). US4.3.1.6 Unlike IPSC Poppers, metal plates are not subject to calibration or calibration challenges. If a metal target has been hit but fails to fall or overturn, the Range Officer shall declare range equipment failure and order the competitor to reshoot the course of fire, after the faulty plate has been rectified.
  20. Hey Rob, time to cut back on the Red Bull! Thanks! Chuck <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Rob...will we eventually be able to view the results with first/last name and also will the "view results in ASCII form" (or whatever it was called) be available again sometime? tnx
  21. Bruce...see if you can beat your 2 minute record from Area 1! Think of it as a challenge!
  22. Moved to a different thread.....
  23. Match is this weekend...anyone else from around here planning on going? Just a heads up...if you looked at the stage designs a month ago or so....take a look at them again! They've made some tweaks and some of the stages look nothing like they originally did!
  24. Was that by chance, Area 1 stage 3 at Missoula? I had a shooter hit a popper and thought it fell....while scoring the targets, we found that it was still standing. The shooter debated about letting it go as a mike and I said "if it was me, I'd call for calibration...what have you got to loose?" (actually I tell everyone that when they leave a popper standing). So we called the RM to the stage....bang! Popper was still standing! Reshoot!
  25. Ahhh...that explains why the Local Match Results section of the members area is looking/acting strange right now. I thought maybe I was having a weird cookie/cacheing problem.
