Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Find that I have the option of either 6" or 4" for a new 610. Want to shoot the gun in USPSA matches Unlikely to shoot IDPA since most local matches are scheduled during workdays M-F (?). Is 4" the obvious choice? thanks in advance Tim
  2. Back again... all ammo 230g FMJ... gun was purchased new, I think it is a 625-8... the rear sight on my gun is cranked all the way down... WWB 230g and lighter handloads all seem to shoot high Based on the responses to this post I am guessing that not all shoot high thx a lot Tim
  3. Guys - I bought a 625, and have since shot another SW .45 acp revolver. Mine is 5 inch adjustable sight model, and the other is a 4" adjustable sight model. Both shot inches high at all distances, even with the adjustable sights cranked all the way. Same results with softball handloads, or hardball factory ammo. Is this just a weird atypical statistical sample, or is this common? If it's common, is it common to replace the front sight to get the thing to print close to POA? Hoping to shoot IPSC this year, but hard to shoot quick when you're holding off a lot, best Tim
  4. When I first started using the Precision 230g LRNFP moly bullets I had occassional Failure to Feed problems when loaded out to max length. Shortened COAL incrementally and found a spot where all six of my 1911s feed it better than ball. Think we're talking 1.225"-1.230". Am so happy with this load, and so confident of it's feeding, that I'm buying it in 2,000 bullet lots from Precision. Wish they'd put some helium in the boxes, 2,000 rds of 230g lead slugs is HEAVY best wishes, all usual handloading precautions apply, Tim
  5. if this has been beaten to death already, my apologies.... I am hesistant to transport loaded moon clips in MD after a long dissertation by the President of one of our local shooting clubs regarding the fact that the State of MD considers a loaded box magazine for a pistol legally to be the same as a loaded pistol, in the event that your vehicle is searched by the police. According to this retired LE, you could have an unloaded pistol in your car, a loaded pistol magazine somewhere else in your car, and still legally be charged with having a loaded pistol in your car, which is generally a significant violation unless you are one of the ten or twenty ccw permit holders in the state. While I haven't spent any time on it, a loaded moon clip seems functionally to serve the same purpose as a loaded pistol magazine. Individual LE officers will frequently tell you that this shouldn't be a problem unless you are already in trouble for something else, but still the ambiguity is unsettling. Am I the first person to bring this up? Tim
  6. FYI - as promised, for the first time ever, I will be shooting a stock 625 at Thurmont this Sunday morning. Since my reloads are very slow and problematic, I think we can safely assume we know who will come in last Looking forward to seeing you guys there, Tim
  7. What are you looking for??? not sure, the pistol came with rubber grips that are awful for me, don't let my hands move around. finger grooves are also not optimal. I have small hands so may order Miceluk grips, or check out some custom grip sites, best Tim
  8. It is tight. So, if I want the gun to fire Fiocchi, etc, may need bona fide gunsmithing done. As is it fires Win White Box in moon clips, which is pretty much the mission statement. thanks for all of the help Tim
  9. thanks for all of the responses. I now have a comp-tax holster, 6 Cal Comp Works belt carriers, a re-mooner, and 100 moon clips on the way. now just need a set of grips and I'm set for April, very best regards Tim
  10. In the spirit of self-sacrifice I am willing to shoot revolver at Thurmont in April if you guys can help me find a blade tech kydex holster in stock somewhere. Since this will be my first revolver competition of any sort ever, it is a virtually certainty that I will come in last. This can spare one other poor shooter (you probably know who you are) the embarrassment. Soooo, I figure there is at least one person out there deeply vested in the outcome of my holster search. Pistol is a 5" SW 625-8, in stock configuration. Anybody who knows where I can find a blade-tech or similar kydex holster (ie not a race holster) please reply. B-T says none in stock there, and at least a 5 week wait for a custom order. thanks very much in advance, Tim
  11. Which is the main spring screw
  12. follow up on my 625-8 Running the gun with Wilson full moon clips, the Win White Box fires 100% of the time. Even with the clips, it does not fire every fiochhi cartridge (typically 1 misfire out of 6). If the pistol continues to run Win WB perfectly with the full moon clips, I may not send it back. The action is very smooth and the pistol is very accurate and the object of admiration of fellow shooters so apparently a keeper. thanks for the advice, Tim
  13. thanks guys. the pistol misfires in SA and DA mode with Win WB ammo, light strikes approxiimately 1 ever 8 or 12 shots maybe? also, if you shake the gun the firing pin or something rattles around loose in that part of the frame, is that normal? best Tim
  14. WalterMitty thanks for your reply. Win White Box misfires the same amount as my handloads so am discounting bad loads for the moment. About 6-7 duds out of an economy box of 100 WWB Do your pistols that fire nonclipped rounds perfectly have a firing pin in the hammer, or a frame mounted firing pin? I am wondering if something is amiss with the firing pin mechanism, cylinder end play did not feel atrocious on casual inspection About the half moon clips, didn't have any tools and they were impossible to unload by hand without twisting, hence breakage. thanks for your responses, and those from the other guys as well Tim
  15. Hi Bill was knocking out the cases with a plastic pen that part worked fine Tim
