  1. Even though I did poorly with my iron sights, I dont beleive it should be eliminated, as I agree with Zak, alot of battle rifles have some sort of optic, Using Iron sights is all about marksmanship. If i could do the match over, i would shoot tactical scope. I also think that allowing all classes a bipod would be helpful due to the terrain.
  2. Alan, *Im easily bribed for info!!! Great meeting you, Cav guys talk very highly of you.
  3. Not sure an exact number, but talking to Russell from Cav last week he said their are a few slots open. I wouldnt wait til the last minute, sure is a nice prize table.
  4. we'll be leaving early morning on wednesday. Cant wait to shoot it, my first rocky mountain match, it will be good to see old friends as well.
  5. We're staying in someones cabin, i think its right by the range, talk to you about it tomorrow at the 2 gun if you are going.
  6. Im shooting tactical iron sights this year. looks like alot of people in heman class.
  7. Not to dismiss point shooting, but at the distance he was shooting, its almost impossible to miss, also, why is his sights above his eye level. Another point, shooting a target 3-4 times before engaging the second or third target would have ill fated consequences. I think that guy is Angus' uncle or something.
  8. I watch shooter ready at least once a year, reminds me of simple things, get back to the basics idea. Rob is a great teacher, great person. I will be looking into one of his classes also.
  9. I'll be doing it with Iron sights, cant be that hard!!
  10. Shoot some other type of firearms discipline and see how safe they are compared to us 3 gun/IPSC/IDPA shooters, you will be surprised. I shot in a couple clay tournaments and holy smokes, people putting the barrel of their gun on their foot, slinging a semi auto over their shoulder at a whole crowd, no one seemed to care except me, a couple guys i was around and i mentioned it to them, they seem to think im over paranoid. So, my .02 cents would be, carry your guns, muzzle up or bagged and thats as far as it needs to go, watch your muzzle and never ever sweep someone with it.
  11. good shooting Zak, the boys told me you did very good. Hope to see you at rocky mnt 3 gun.
  12. matty b, dont forget about the newcomers to our sport, do a segment on pump guns, the 870 or model 500/590 are the most prevelant. and for giggles, the USAS 12 ga. monster for the Cav boys!
  13. Whos all going to the DPMS Tri gun challenge in Minnesota? I just got a slot, which was so nice, I'm looking forward to this match, then 2 weeks later the Rocky Mnt 3 gun, lots of shooting at the end of summer.
  14. I would like to see that keen sense of politeness to the ones you train LOL how bout some bolt gun stuff Matty B.
  15. I noticed that my 55gr PMC or S&B's werent knocking down the larue target at 300+ yards, so I have switched to 68gn bthp for longer range and havnt had a problem since. Make sure if you are doing this you know where your gun hits from 10-400yds with the different ammo.
  16. Shooting steel is going to make you faster, but dont forget to practice alot on paper too. I agree with all the posts above. They do help combining the two, but I shot a local steel match for a year without shooting a paper match and wow I was surprised how horrible I did. I have a problem with switching guns every few weeks too. Good luck.
  17. Bob, I did get the point of the hold over, but we usually dont shoot our AR's more than 300-350yds, which doesnt really require a hold over. Anything longer than 350, Im breaking out the bolt gun
  18. I like my CQT and think its the best (Close Quarter Tactical scope) out there. Unlike Matt and Bob, I like the dot, I think its fast and do not prefer crosshairs for close quarter shooting. I like the TA11 but its too magnified for under 20yds, pretty much, try scopes from different manufacturers and find what works best for you.
  19. If I shoot it this year, I would love to destroy things with you Guy, I had a lot of fun shooting with you and Garret a few years back. I think I still have one of your guy's slings from WC3G. Good to see your still shooting.
  20. Trooper class is a great idea, especially military/LE who train that way. Doesnt the NC recon match do this to an extent?? I hear thats one of the best matches in the US. Bring all your gear and food/water with you and no going back to the parking lot during the course of the day. Thats very cool. It would take the gamers out of the picture for sure.
  21. By no means did I mean that someone who gives less is a less of a supporter, I think we all who play this game should be thankful to all the sponsors, try shooting a major match in archery 3D, they did 2 raffles and no prizes, with over 240 competitors. I was shocked. My statement should have read, simply "buy what works for you, not who you think gives the most".
  22. My .02cents. JP supports our sport more than anyone could imagine, unfortunately his triggers are a little hard to put in. Since Benelli offers a better product, cant you say the same for Chips trigger? Not necessarily thats its better than JP's, but alot easier(no gunsmith required) to install. As for buying something from Cactustactical, how does that support our sport?? Do they donate prizes as the likes of JP? They may donate some prizes, I'm not sure and by no means am I taking sides with either argument, just pointing out that its a matter of opinion. Buy what you think will work or what works for you, not who donates how much to our sport. if you want to stop the crickets from chirping, get a lizard!!!!
  23. No need checking for headspace on an AR, unless the bolt doesnt close or anything funny like that. I wouldnt recommend switching bolts between uppers also. I've built my fair share of AR's and never had one where headspacing was an issue.
