  1. Agreed, but I load for .40 and Super, and it's one less SKU to inventory - plus RoundGun mentioned having a couple of K small rifle. I never considered is "waste" in the old days (ie, last year) when primers were readily available. I RO'ed a shooter yesterday who hit a noshoot. I advised him it was not a good idea to waste primers like that in today's environment.
  2. You'll find that your Small Rifle also work nicely in the limited SxI you get.
  3. Shooting forum....hole drilled in bit toe. I'm glad this post wasn't what I expected Best wishes for a complication free recovery.
  4. One can possess > 10 capacity mags that were personally possessed in CA before the Caliban. Unlike some other states, CA vigorously enforces the > 10 round limit and one cannot count on individual officers accepting the argument that a magazine not in a gun is in fact a "firearm" and covered by FOPA86. There is such a thing as a CA high capacity magazine permit, however, these are generally available only to dealers. I have heard of cases where someone with high cap rounds had a separate felony count charged for each mag in possession. The most interesting CA case I read about was someone jailed for an AW who found out the gun was not really an AW. He had already served his time and been sentenced, but a pro-gun attorney took the case. The prosecution did not disagree that the gun was incorrectly called an AW when the subject was charged, but successfully argued against the convict's appeal since he had missed a filing date. That's CA gun owner justice for you.
  5. Time to change my hate - Time Warner backed off. Now I get to HATE the fact that Chuck Schumer is taking credit for TW backing off.
  6. Ammo is not "Hazmat". UPS will ship ammo without a surcharge, but it must go ground only, and you have to ship from a UPS depot (NOT a UPS store), and label it "ORM-D - Cartridges, Small Arms". Primers and powder not assembled into ammo are Hazmat and can be shipped only if you have a Hazmat shipper contract on file with UPS. It is my understanding that one of the terms of said contract is that the shipper is responsible for all hazmat related cleanups regardless of fault for the Hazmat spill - which is one reason they require a contract, and won't take hazmat over the counter.
  7. I'm not even a customer and I hate them. Time-Warner is starting to test their new "usage pricing model" where customers buy 5, 10, 20 or 40gb/month and pay $1 per GB over that for internet use. Their CEO States they "made a mistake" not going to usage based pricing immediately. It appears that the big problem is people are using their internet bandwidth to buy movies from on-line services rather than Time-Warner premium channels and pay per view. Of course, they are only doing this test in areas without meaningful broadband competion (Beaumont, TX and Rochester, NY).
  8. How can you tell when a cell phone salesman is lying? His lips are moving. We needed a new cell phone to replace a broken one, so my family went to the mall and spoke to the rep in one of the kiosks. They were told they could get a new phone for $20, with "no change in contract" but decided to get my opinion first. I checked with T-Mobile, and they had no such deal (just phones for $70 and up if bought as replacements without a contract). So, either the mall salesman had access to a deal the carrier's direct reps don't, or he was lying and would have put it down as a contract renewal. I strongly suspect the later. I managed to buy a new phone locked to the same carrier on E-Bay for $39, with absolutely no chance doing so would "accidentally" renew my contract.
  9. IN the old days, the US rulebook have few differences. There was a fundamental divide when IPSC went PC with the headless target. We were assured both targets were separate but equal, and there was no intent to eliminate the original target. Boudrie predicted this would be the next step. IPSC defenders stated he was wrong. IPSC encouraged regions holding World Shoots to use ONLY the PC target. IPSC moved the PC target to "second" in the rulebook to make it easier for regions that wished to hide the heritage of our sport from readers of their copy of the book by simply removing one illustration IPSC removed the PC target from the book The IPSC GA voted to remove the non-PC target as an authorized target As a semi-related act of PC, the World Shoot in Cebu was asked (not ordered) to remove their very nicely done stage diagrams since their presence on the web made it harder for some region's competitors to hide the nature of their sport from their overlords. The needs of the US and non-US regions differ, and are walking different paths. The US region has not chosen to walk the path of political correctness, and is not interested in playing the game of "let's see if the anti-gunners will hate us just a little bit less if we water down our sport.
  10. It's only hoarding if you are out and someone else with more foresight has a better supply than you do. If you're the person who stocked up on a season's worth, it's simply prudent inventory management. Buying a decent supply of a commodity in short supply when you get the opportunity is common sense. Letting yourself get down to the last 5,000 in the current environment is about as far from common sense as you can get - unless you are willing to sit out the season to make sure that you don't contribute to the problem.
  11. Heroes has been using an SVI Infinity IMM open w/iron sights in .45, plus on one occasion, a SVI Tiki. The IMM sightings are sometimes clear enough you're swear it was paid product placement (it wasn't). Kings bought a bunch of stuff from JP Rifles, but I haven't see it since the first episode (no JP spottings in that show)
  12. Someone who knows what they are doing with MySQL/Php, and clever enough to figure out the IPBoard user tables (so it would use the same user id's as the forums) could have a basic system working in two weekend worth of work. Add a few more days for a decent web interface (not necessarily done by the same person), and a bit of maintenance over the first few months as new ideas come up and we have a pretty decent system. My backlog is too big to tackle this at present. If anyone competent in the above technologies is interested, convince Brian and I'll be glad to answer any questions you have about the current server/database environment.
  13. Even gun-friendly states ignore statutory delays with impunity. The time limit to issuance in NH is 15 days, but it routinely takes them a month or two to process them now. Unless it's a big enough issue for a well funded court case, laws are merely guidelines to government agencies.
  14. If he decided to prove innocence, rather than pay a retainer to an attorney to protect his rights, he could probably end it on the spot by showing the lure to the warden. It worked for a classmate in high school who got a visit by the feds after a local mobster was blown up using the same model remote control he bought for his model plane (he showed then the radio, including the receiver in his plane like the one that blew up, and never heard anything else about it).
  15. I don't know what was said, so these are general comments about how such a situation could be handled. There is no need to be impolite when serving as an RO. If I were the RO and wanted someone to move who was refusing, I would simply say "If you don't move, I will issue a DQ for unsportsmanlike conduct, at which point you will have the right to file an arbitration with the match director. I would really prefer not to issue that ruling. How would you like to handle this situation?" The RO is responsible for the stage. The 180 is an absolute constraint on the competitor, however, the fact that a competitor cannot be DQd for staying just within that limit does not mean that spectators have the right to stand anywhere outside the 180 when the RO asks them to move.
  16. I've found UPS package tracking to be pretty reliable. I recently had a chance to use the UPS software to ship myself some stuff, and it's pretty neat - you enter the recipient (or select it from a menu of previous folks you shipped the package to); select the class of delivery (very important, since the pulldown menu defaults to overnight), and it prints a bar coded shipping label tied to your shipper account, enters it into the UPS system, and notifies UPS a pickup is needed. Don't consider delivery to be a "UPS issue" until you see the notation on the record that the package has been picked up.
  17. The Western Digital Caviar Black series ($89.99 for 750GB at newegg) comes with a 5 year warranty.
  18. SVI is available in carbon steel; stainless or aluminum; STI appear to be available in aluminum only. I'll leave it to others to argue the finer design details.
  19. I'm not using them at all yet . My dealer can get Winchester Small Pistol and Remington Small Rifle Benchrest, but not "Small Rifle".
  20. Is there any difference between Small Rifle Benchrest and Small Rifle primers other than consistency? I've seem some occasional availability of Remington Small Rifle Benchrest primers and was wondering if the "hotness" was identical to standard small rifle primers, or if there is a difference.
  21. The "2011" is a model name used by STI. Sometimes people will refer to an "Infinity 2011", but that is not correct nomenclature. Some models of SVI and STIs are similar, however, "2011" is a specific manufacturer's designation, and is not part of the generic lexicon as is 1911.
  22. The fundamental problem Michael Bane encountered is the careful wording of the Cannon warranty. Although it's lifetime, it does not provide a lifetime guaratee on the electronic lock, nor does the guarantee on the lock cover the opening of the safe and repair if necessary. Although Cannon gave Michael a new keypad which fixed his problem, there was no indication that Cannon ever agreed that they will, as a matter of course, cover lockouts, or that they would have taken care of him if replacement of this part did not resolve the problem. I am not aware of any manufacturer that offers a lifetime lockout guaranty on electronic locks, but Cannon certainly plays it carefully with the wording - not including words like "Lock guarantee is limited to replacement of the lock only and does not cover lockout servicing."
  23. From what I've seen, new SATA based MOBOS more often than not have at least one dual channel IDE connector (the one I just assembled came with 2 SAS, 6 SATA and 1 IDE). If not, you can put the IDE drive in a case that has USB or ESATA output (Rosewill makes a nice case with both), an plug that into a USB port on your system to access the drive. I've never used one, but it appears the IDE to SATA adapters do exist for a fraction of the cost of a box of primers: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822998008 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822998001
  24. If the staff scores count as part of the match, they must be within the regular match dates. There is no requirement you let non-staff shoot on these days, however, they must be part of the posted match dates and so listed on the calendar. Major matches have a choice when it comes to staff shoots. They can run a separate staff match (different scoresheet and start/end dates to the match), or as part of the main match. Just because everyone shooting on Thursday is staff does not mean that Thursday is "before the main match" - it's technically part of the main match if these persons scores are to be reported on the same results as the rest of the match.
  25. True, but prices tend to be "sticky" and once they are pushed up by a shortage, it is uncommon for them to come back down to their former levels (gasoline seems to be an exception). I don't think primers ever got back down the "pre-shortage" pricing after the crisis of the early 90's. An excellent example of price stickiness is bullet pricing - which did not retract significantly with the lead market. To the person who doesn't lay in a supply, it's "hoarding". To the person who got theirs, it's (according to KGL, an attorney USPSA member) it's "maintaining a prudent inventory of strategic supplies".
