  1. "Yes, handgun with empty magazine inserted must fit wholly within a box with internal dimensions of 8 15/16” x 6” x 1 5/8” (tolerance +1/16”, -0”)" While only John Amidon can issue a formal interpretation, I would take this to mean that any box that measured within the tolerance range could be used as the definitive measure at a match. The fact that a box was outside of the tolerance range would give grounds for a challenge. The fact that a box was within the tolerance band, but not at the maximum, would not allow a competitor to succeed in a challenge to a ruling that failure to fit in the box meant the gun did not meet equipment requirements. Everything has a tolerance. By specifying the tolerance in this manner, the competitor who knows his gun will fit in a box at the lower edge of the tolerance window can be assured it will fit any rules compliant box used at a match.
  2. That was my goof. An uninitialized variable in the code that sends out the squadding pin for self-squadding caused the message destined for the previous shooter to be sent out when a shooter was not due a message (most typically because they were already in the system). I don't believe the system failed to send out the squadding/PIN notices, but some people got copies they should not. Now you know why USPSA has a policy that we NEVER process credit card numbers on the USPSA server. Anything with credit card numbers is off-loaded to reputable vendors that specialize in secure commerce.
  3. CLI - Command Line Interface When you are setting up a package on a Linux webserver, you can expand the files, ftp them all, and then hope they are set up so you can do the configuration via a web interface - or just copy the zip file or tarball to the web server and do a good portion of the installation using commands (CLI), which tends to get the job done much more quickly if you know what you are doing.
  4. You can confirm it's wordpress by visiting http://www.theothermurdockpapers.com/wp-login.php Brian - the above is the long way to get it done. It's much quicker to upload the archive to the server, and use the Linux command lined to expand the archivie into place. Since Brian's volunteered to do it, I can assist. Someone who knows what they are doing and feels comfortable doing this via the CLI can get it done in a fraction of the time than a non geek can via FTP - especially if anything goes less than perfectly smoothly.
  5. SVI barrels are now made in-house.
  6. Even if the parts not a freebie (1050 specific parts), Dillon always gets the replacement parts out quickly without delay or back order - which is as important a benefit as getting the part at no charge.
  7. It's up to 12.5 cents each plus shipping. 9mm is cheap enough you can afford to lose it.
  8. The web server software recently self-updated. The web server uses the Cpanel package which provides a web administrative interface to account/site management, provides for automatic update of Apache, and helps with a bunch of maintenance work. Some chances in Apache resulted in additional constraints on the PHP files used to display results. (There is another issue with the upgrade that prevents www.nroi.org from working, which I am looking into). None of this was a result of any chances made to the web site - just to the web server that processes the files. I've fixed the members results area. For the technoweenies who are curious: The members results area had two characteristics which worked before the upgrade that I had to correct: 1. Linux symbolic links in the path the URL maps to were owned by the wrong user (root) 2. The directory containing the scripts was group writeable (protection 775 instead of 755) Rob
  9. How fortunate for Wolf that you are a UPS certified hazmat trained shipper, and have the "acceptance of unlimited liability for hazmat incident cleanup" contract already on file with UPS - the only way in which you may use them to ship primers.
  10. The gun shown has the conventional stirrup cut used for guns with standard length dust covers. The butler cut is a shorter cut on the frame and slide used to give a less "square" profile at the front to full length dust cover guns.
  11. The issues are related to the integration of a third party higher performance search system into the new version of the forum software. I've turned on the third party search (Sphinx), and hacked the code so it used the traditional search mechanism for title only searches - a quick work-around to the Invision Power Board bug with integration of the search.
  12. The 2010 Area 7 Championship will be at Pathfinder Fish & Game in Fulton, NY. $100 ($50 juniors) Trophy/plauqe match All shooting done in 1/2 day Small squads - spend your time shooting, not waiting Match app at www.uspsa7.org/work
  13. True, but a lot goes into picking a match date and it's not reasonable or practical for every area championship to establish a national exclusion for other area matches. The A3 is 1400 miles from Pathfinder so there will probably be little overlap. A7/2010 is shot in a single 1/2 day so, with proper planning, the motivated shooter can attend both.
  14. The interface to import scores and stage layouts from the handheld scoring to EzWinScore, and the format for transfer of registration data to the handhelds is an ASCII flat file. Rod Cassidy wrote his program based on revere-engineering of this file format (which is so simple it borders on self documenting - sorry, it's not XML) and got full functionality without any EzwinScore work. The same could be done for other platforms, and USPSA is not taking any steps to protect the turf of any specific handheld software developer. (Just ask Peter Cunningham if you doubt this ). Everyone is talking in terms of "someone should", but nobody is stepping forward offering the time and effort to make it happen. There could be an opportunity here for someone to write an iphone or itouch (iphone without the phone) app. But then, it's always easy for people to say "someone should..." rather than "I will...."
  15. This is a risk and one of the reasons why USPSA rules require paper backup to Level II or higher matches. There are risks and benefits to nearly everything. My home club (Harvard, MA) has uses Palms without paper backup for several years with no loss of stages due to the Palm. We realize it could happen, but choose to take that risk for local matches. If we lose one stage at a Level I local match every 3 or 4 years, we'll still be ahead on a cost/benefit basis. There are lots of way to do a cooler system - the problem is that none of them operate on the "low cost, you can afford to buy a dozen of the handhelds" basis - which is why an obsolete platform remains popular.
  16. That's the way I've always done it, but the circular ridges on one side only of the flip tray give the impression it was intended to be shaker until all the primers are oriented like little turtles on their backs.
  17. His first mistake was not telling the employer "give me a copy, I need to go over this with my attorney". The courts are generally not amused by attempts to pressure the other party into signing without a reasonable opportunity to have their own legal review done - so he would have either (a) obtained advice before making the sign/no sign decision, or (B ) given the other side the chance to dig themselves a hole. Whenever my employer asks an employee to sign anything, they always give the employee time to consult with his/her own legal counsel if (s)he so desires.
  18. Whenever I see that sort of thing on waitress or clerk in a store I'm tempted to say "I know a good doctor who can probably help you with that".
  19. I have seen this happen (with a former, now defunct, employer), in a case where there wasn't even a no-compete. It consisted of my employer's attorney saying "You are taking too many of our people, if you keep it up, prepare for a suit". The result was that the other company adopted a policy of not hiring any of my co-workers without a release from my employer.
  20. This depends on a lot of factors, including the state in which you work, and how key a player you are in the company. There is no shortcut to finding a qualified atty in your state who knows this sort of thing. Even if they are not enforceable, the mere threat of an action from the former can prevent a potential new employer from extending an offer to someone with a non-compete if there are other candidates for the job who do not bring any baggage.
  21. Dillon has a well oiled machine to handle retail sales and customer services. Mail order houses typically require 40 points of margin +/-, but may go lower in some cases. Dillon sells to stocking dealers for something like 15% off. My guess is that it's not worth it to Dillon to offer cut their margins to the level where a place like Midway finds it profitable to carry their stuff.
  22. I believe so, since UPS has not changed the size of the flat rate box - which is just right for 2K.
  23. I'd suggest alphabetical in even numbered years and reverse alphabetical in odd numbered years.
  24. You can take for granted the fact that you can't take anything for granted. I gave a few hundered of the Wolfs that work perfectly for me to a friend who shoots a SIG. He had nothing but problems - numerous misfires. He gave me a box of his ammo with these primers (I have yet to try it), and they appear to be properly seated. I look forward to finding out if it's a difference in the reloading technique or difference in firing pin energy.
