  1. Big - because of the Federal packaging issue. Heavy - because Dillon makes great stuff - although if they had gone cheap and made it of plastic, it could have been done in Dillon Blue.
  2. I have been having great luck with copper colored Wolf Small Rifle primers in 1911s.
  3. The USPSA plumber even emailed me a critique of my work after I sent him the "after" photos. I will feel MUCH better closing the wall knowing that it "looks right" to someone who knows this sort of thing. I'm generally pretty good at the mechanical aspects of DIY home repairs, but his help prevented me from missing something important.
  4. I had the sniffer go off on my luggage at Bend, OR. The TSA folks had a "no big deal, but there are procedures we have to follow" - which meant filling out an entry in a logbook and manual inspection of all of my luggage. If you leave an hour or so buffer, you should be able to handle the extra procedures triggered by a false positive.
  5. I had a plumbing problem Xmas eve that involved opening a wall to address a leaking drain. I emailed a USPSA plumber and Xmas day and received detailed instructions on the proper way to fix the problem; a suggestion for something that was not quite right I should fix while the pipes are exposed; and an offer to drive up to my house in a few days and do the job for "parts and gas only". He even refused the offer of 5,000 primers of his choice or a case of XM193 for the job I'm pretty sure I have the repair completed correctly, and emailed him the photos for comment - but this sort of help from a fellow USPSA member is fantastic. He's a forum member whose welcome to reply. I'm not mentioning his name in case he does not want to offer a national plumbing hotline.
  6. We get lots of snow on this ranges, but we have three clubs running indoor matches: Boston Gun & Rifle, Dorchester (Boston neighborhood) - running one this Sunday. (*). This one is a field trip into enemy territory politically speaking. American Firearms School, N. Attleboro (*) S&W Sport Shooting Center ranges * - Pre-registration/limited attendance due to the time window for which the club books the range for the match
  7. Not as low as a lot of you folks - A2776 originally; now L1571 I would hope so, since the "C" stands for "Charter". A reminder to those of you with "CA" (Charter Annual) numbers who aren't upgrading to Life becauseof your cool number. USPSA will convert your CA# to the equivalent CAL# (Charter Annual Life) so you can get all the benefits of life membership without losing your cool number. The CAL prefix was introduced specifically for this purpose. Non-unique numeric member numbers are one of the banes of my existence (the other lives in Colorado), because of the difficulty in linking members as their number change - an individuals numeric prefix can change as the move from A/TY/FY (no number change when moving between these) to L (number change) to B (benefactor) and occasionally to RD. It would have been SO much easier if the member number were a "number", and the prefix a type designator.
  8. Paul - Can you order a 3rd bag and bring it to a match? rob
  9. You would also get a reshoot for this, assuming that (a ) The RO was doing his job properly and (b ) The RO concurred with your position that you had to stop to avoid overrunning him I tried to back out of a room at a nationals, but the doorway was not big enough for both me and the RO. I stopped one step away from backing into the open door. When given "if you are done, unload and show clear", I told the RO "I was unable to finish, since doing so would have put you downrange of my gun". I was granted a reshoot, and, since the RO knew what he was doing, I didn't even have to ask for it.

  12. Well said - that is exactly what I was trying to say. My point was that if YOU have a $1M policy that covers the incident, you have $1M worth of coverage. If you are relying on the club's policy and are ordered to pay damages, you may have considerably less coverage for yourself than the stated policy limit. Also, check the club policy to see if you are covered. Some cover only people on record as officers of the club, whereas others cover anyone "acting on behalf of the club". This is of particular concern if you are in a state that assesses damages on a joint and several basis and you have documented assets - which allows the plaintiff to extract the full amount from any of the defendants. A defendant found to the 20% responsible could be made to pay the entire amount if the other defendants were judgement proof (no assets to seize).
  13. This link shows you where the fitting is done on the safety: http://www.sviguns.com/4004.php Be sure to use a decent file (SVI recommends #2 or finer with a safety edge [no teeth]), not a dremel. Go slow and be careful, as this is a pricey part.
  14. The folks have what looks like a decent policy: BUT. note that a $1M limit is "per incident", so if 20 people get named as defendants in a suit naming each member of the match staff as a defendant, each is only covered for $50K (although I'm not sure how the coverage divides up if the court finds members liable in different amounts). Some good news is that they do not deduct defense costs from the policy limit. In think NROI certified RO's are considered NASO members, or eligible to join NASO (I will find out from Dave Thomas - he made such a deal with an org of this type years ago, just not sure if this is the one).
  15. Second best decision my wife ever made was getting de-uterized. I hope it works out as well for your wife.
  16. About 15 or so years ago, Mike Dillon told me I should drill and tap the linkage arms on my 550 for zerks. Too bad they don't come that way from the factory.
  17. Plus it's split 2/2 between user and kernel space unless you change that to 3/1 with a boot.ini option.
  18. Another technique for obtaining insurance is to have a rider added to an existing policy for an event designating a particular individual, or set of individuals, as "additional insureds". The upside is that this can be very inexpensive. The downside is that it takes the existing coverage limit and spreads it over more people. Check your club insurance as well - sometimes these policies include anyone acting on behalf of the club (and sometimes they don't).
  19. Money no object? I'd track down one of the civilian transferable M134's, and then go have a chat with my local police chief about a green card (Massachusetts machine gun license) and his signature on a Form 4.
  20. I noticed that you hear the striker release the first time he pulls the trigger, but the second pull after racking the slide and before holstering, does not sould like it released the engagement of the sear plate from the striker. It's still impressive, but I don't think it's would meet the requirement for a hammer down start.
  21. Better check on parts availability - I don't believe that press is currently supported.
  22. Cool. Are you able to have a book removed from your account and moved to another, or is the sale price a no-resell license?
