  1. Am I the only one who considers the undercharge detonation thing an old wives tale? Hopefully someone who knows how to work a slide rule will chime in with science.
  2. very common on 1911's however, yours mught be at the end of the spectrum of acceptable. The barrel wasn't fit quite as well as it could have been. If it's tight, accurate and reliable just shoot it. if you have ignition problems send it back to STI.
  3. Green white and yellow as a tribute to the S3's birth place with a naked lady silhouette air brushed the length of the dust cover.
  4. Wow, Kudos to USPSA, they made some major improvements. My TRS-80 didn't have an LCD display or SD card reader. Why do I suddenly have the urge to tabulate my monthly expenses in Visicalc then relax with a nice game of Frogger?
  5. A buddy of mine has a (formerly) open 9x21 small frame blaster built by Kevin Toothman. The sear cage is welded just like in the instructions. The slide rails were also welded a little bit in the center and at the ends. It also had some pretty trick parts like a roller tipped trigger bar plunger.
  6. You own two Bren 10's! You must be in the Unicorn breeding business.
  7. My last company provided an extra week of vacation when you hit ten years. I thought that was pretty awesome. I never came close to using all of my vacation time but I really appreciated the gesture.
  8. How far over/under spwc was it? There have been 40 years worth of CZ 75's produced. I can see production changes could account for an ounce here or there.
  9. Mazatrol doesn't support G-code does it? Are you planning to do a retrofit or use the current CNC interface?
  10. An AMT 44 automag is like a double barrel Ruger Mk 2 in 22lr, right? Edited to say at $5/round it's still cheaper than two 22lr rounds and probably easier to find.
  11. There are a ton of beat up pre-b 75's on Gun Broker right now for cheap. I'm trying to resist the temptation. I think the better question is what's the best bang for the buck mini-red dot. Considering the optic and machining will cost more than the blaster it's bolted to.
  12. SDM, I was wondering the same thing having never tinkered with a "D" gun. It used to be CZ only sold the Comp hammer for SA/DA guns but I noticed CZC now sells a decocker version of the comp hammer.

    Carry Optic P09

I was just drooling over the CZC website and notice there is a P09 "Duty" version available with an extended threaded barrel. I wonder how much more weight the extended barrel would add. 34.5oz w/ a red dot, suppressor ready would be bad ass.

    Carry Optic P09

My CZ 85B with aluminum grips, comp sights and comp hammer with a MecGar mag was 37oz and 36.4 with an old oem 10 rd mag. That's damn close to making weight without trying. Someone really needs to weight their slide before and after doing the melt job. Then we need a list of red dot weights. I'm seriously thinking about buying compact, metal CZ for CO. I think it's going to be so cute watching guys walk around with 'carry' guns in Boss holsters. P.S. Amidon made a point of saying in my circa 2012 RO class how he thought the CZ decocker was cool because it didn't drop the hammer all the way down.
  15. Is Scholastic Steel Challenge dying? Nope, it's dead because USPSA didn't trademark the name and didn't have the balls to stand up to trademark trolls (among other reasons). Mysteriously it all but vanished from the website. I'm a little bitter having helped run sanctioned SSC matches. MWX - Are the clubs affiliated with SCSA and sending the activity fee ($1/shooter IIRC) to USPSA/SCSA? Are the scores submitted for classification? I doubt very many "Steel Challenge" clubs are affiliated. When SSC was alive I could justify the affiliation and activity fees because the money was going to support SSC and getting new shooter involved in the sport. Now I really don't any reason to be affiliated unless your shooters care about SC classification.
  16. I've never wanted a plastic CZ or PO/CO type gun until I heard the rumors about Glock getting upset because the G34 is no longer the cool kid. Now I want one just to spite Glock.
  17. I experimented with a brand new MecGar retail 40S&W mag (same as the K40 but with the MecGar roll marks) setup with the grams kit and henning basepad. I squeezed the mag front to back in a soft jawed vice to bow out the sides a little. I was able to get 20 rounds loaded by hand and it seated in the gun relatively easily. There was still plenty of room left in the grip frame so I kept torturing the mag with the vice and even tried bowing out the middle of the mag with a deep socket. At one point I was able to get 21 rounds in the mag, but there was no way in it was going to seat with the slide closed. Also 21 rounds ballooned the mag out to the point where I could feel it dragging in the grip frame. I abused that mag enough that it started to regress and loading 20 rounds became more difficult. I'll keep playing around but I think my experimental mag body is going to be relegated to dry fire practice. Tomorrow I'll grab another new mag (I figure I can destroy at least four before I get into STI tube $$$) and give it a little squeeze until 20 rounds can be loaded by hand then run a bunch of drills and see what happens then the spring takes a set. Once the Henning pads are a little easier to get I might take one to a machine shop and see how much material (if any) they can hog out of the bottom. FYI, I checked the K40 + Henning base pad in my official mag gage an it fit perfectly. No need to shave the basepad or feed lips.
  18. I put 100 rounds combined through two mags on Sunday after letting them sit for a few days. So far it hasn't made much of a difference. Now that I've chrono'd my load I'll kick up production and see if I can get those springs broken in.
  19. I just did that on a Stock 3 (large frame). At Atlas' suggestion I bought 100+ piece drill bit set from Harbor Freight and stepped up one size at a time. I mic'd the stock roll pin then used a tap handle to hand "drill" the holes. I used a spare CZ flat aluminum trigger I had sitting around. My trigger rests farther forward than it should (not parallel to the grip) and I needed to replace the overtravel screw with a longer (3x0.5x6mm) screw. I might be able to stone down the sear leg to get the trigger parallel to the frame (increasing the pre-travel and reducing the overtravel stops) but I'm leaving it for now because I haven't decided if I want to switch to a Henning trigger.
  20. According to Henning's website it's possible to fit 21 rounds of 40S&W into a mag using Henning's base pads and grams springs. The website doesn't specify if that's using the K40 mags or the old style. I can barely jam 19 rounds into my K40 mags with Grams springs/follower and Hennings basepads. I was able to cram 20 into one of my mags but I'd likely need an arbor press to get it seated in the gun. Granted these are new components. What is the secret sauce to get 20 rounds (reloadable) into the K40 mags? Squeeze the mag body in a vice? Push through resizer sizer? Clip a coil from the spring? Black alter, ritual sacrifice?
  21. Brian - What make/model is it? Did you pick it up or have it delivered? I'd imagine shipping a mill is expensive! What is your plan? Manual gcode? Sneaker net a floppy? Can you hook up Mach3/LinuxCNC directory or does it require gutting the electronics that control the servos? Looks like a cool project!
  22. Atlas' Stock 3, out of the box, trigger pull numbers are almost spot on what I saw on my Stock 3.
  23. I really like the ribs lockout die. It's caught some weird stuff like a dead bug in the case and some clumped up tumbler media jammed in the bottom of the case below the powder but not enough to look like a double charge.
