  1. Now lets not get ridiculous. Iron's are good, but I prefer golf clubs. They have a little more range. Seriously, this depends on what you define as up close. Inside 15 yds., I agree. Over 15 and the dots start to show an edge. Erik
  2. I think I'll just back away from the keyboard very slowly. Not sure what just happened. Erik
  3. Tru dat! But it is fun to open her up once in a while! Erik
  4. Paule, That sounds like a plan, but it may have to wait until later in the year. USSA is keeping me pretty busy, not to mention the 3GN, A6 3G, and Fort Benning, but we'll work something out. RS, I started by looking at the 6's, 6.5's, and 7's as they have the best BC's. I knew I wanted to stay with a short action for my first bolt gun. The 6's were a little too small (the 115 wasn't around when I ordered the barrel) and the 7's just didn't have the velocity I was looking for. The 6.5's seemed perfect. I decided on the 260 as it was commercially available, relatively easy to load, and if I decided to build a major PF 3 gun rifle, this would be the caliber I would most likely use. I wanted to build a very accurate rifle without all the weight. Some of the 308's with bull barrels and A5 stocks and scopes were approaching 20lbs. They were way too heavy. I knew I was going to run a 28" barrel to pick up some velocity, so I decided to use a mid-weight barrel and a lighter stock. The lightweight A3 still gave me all the features of the A5 that I wanted but it was about 2-3 lbs. lighter. We'll see how heavy it turns out to be, but I'm betting it will be around 12-13 lbs. Erik
  5. I can generally overrun a Benelli on demand, including one with Benny's mod's (actually it was Kurt's Benelli.) The fastest I can get the Benelli to reliably cycle is about a .15, ocassionally I can pull a .14, but it's really up to the shotgun not me. I haven't found a shotgun that can keep up with me yet...but I haven't tried all of them either. Here's a quick video of me doing a demo for USSA with a short barrelled Benelli. 5 rounds, full power 00 buckshot from low-ready on a steel plate in under 1 sec. Don't remember the exact time, but it was high .8's, low .9's. Erik
  6. XRe, Yeah, I took a look at Matt's new place. Seems like it's going to be another outstanding facility once it's finally completed. I can stretch it out a little more out at USSA, but the most I think I can get right now is about 400 meters....until Phase II begins, then I'll have 1000-1500 yards. M118LR, I took it up to Patriot Arms. They are only 1/2 hour up the road from me. It's nice to be able to pop-in an see how things are going. VNGunfighter, Done! John, Sorry, it's just a plain old Rem 700 short action. I decided to keep it relatively simple in both action and caliber for my first build. I originally was considering the 6.5-06 for my caliber, but I came back to the 260. Figured I'd better get some "traditional" caliber work in before I went with an exotic. Rich, Sounds like a plan. How much longer before your heading back home? Erik
  7. Well, the process of building a competition bolt gun has finally moved from the conceptual phase to the operational phase. With any luck, I should have some pictures of the setup within the next 30 days. Now if I can just figure out how to practice 1000 yard shots on a 200 yard range. Some teaser specs for you. Mcmillian A3 stock built to custom spec. 28" Broughton barrel Badger Ordnance detachable mag system NightForce 3.5-15x50 JP Tank brake (Only until my bolt gun comp design is finalized) And finally...... 260 Remington. Erik
  8. Very nice work! I'm looking forward to the next one. Erik
  9. Gimme a week or so and we'll see what happens. Erik
  10. I can't put into words how weak and lame that ending was.....truly the worst I've ever seen for a series. I thought Seinfeld would hold the title for a long time, but I guess not. Erik
  11. You need to check it. Even a 1/4 MOA shift could have major repercussions downrange. Re-zero everytime you change something. Erik
  12. I will have to give that I try next time. Thanks for the tip, Tim. Erik
  13. Everyone, please contact Benny to make your custom 30 round magazines. Anything that takes a lot of time and keeps him from practicing is a good thing. Erik
  14. How about some pics when you done? Erik
  15. mwx40x40, The washer that came with your Titan comp is a peel washer. You can peel off small portions of the washer to properly index the comp. Erik
  16. Benny, My scope fell off my rifle, so I decided to shoot irons. You'll only have Phil to pick on. Besides, even if you were beating me...I'd just go for your Achilles heel, literally! Erik
  17. I prefer the fiber optic front with a fold down adjustable rear (a la Benny Hill.) It's the best of both worlds. Erik
  18. Kathy, Since you specified a 16" barrel, I would make sure to get a mid-length gas system and use an adjustable gas block. With a good compensator you'll be able to tune it to be as soft as a full length system. Erik
  19. I recently picked up a Springfield XD 9mm Tactical. I'm going to give it a try for a while and see if I like it. After pulling it apart and looking at the Trigger/Striker system, I'm curious to find out if as part of a trigger job, you reduce the engagement surface of the sear slightly to reduce that amount of "drag" that your feel as the sear cams out from under the striker? Yes, I know I should just send it to Rich and I plan to, but I'm curious (which is a bad thing) to find out just how little engagement is needed for a reliable setup, and with the limited availability of spare parts, I don't want to ruin a part that I can't replace without returning it to the factory. TIA, Erik
  20. Stubbi, Try a small screwdriver or if you have a steady hand, a dremel. Carbon build-up is a normal result of the compensator. Just part of doing business. Erik
  21. Get a good, low-powered variable, with a true one power reticle and be done with it. Erik
  22. I had the same problem with a Bar-Sto barrel for my Glock 34. It would not chamber certain types of bullets, even though the overall length was well within specs. After some examination I figured there was not enough lead and the bullet ogive was hitting the rifling. I took a 38 Super reamer and re-chambered the barrel. Now there is a nice lead in the throat area and the barrel now chambers any type of 9mm available. I was concerned about accuracy, but it didn't affect it one bit. Still shoots 2" at 25 yards. I would suspect you have the same problems. Get a gunsmith to add a little more lead to your throat area and your problems should be solved. Erik
