  1. I've got an SV framed 9mm pistol and I'd like to get a 1913 rail machined into the frame. Any gunsmith recommendations for the project? TIA
  2. The SCAR 16 can be quite competitive against the AR given the right type of match. Quick, run n gun rifle stages with targets under 50 yds the AR's have the edge in speed. On mid and long range courses, the 16 is quite capable. The SCAR 17 rules over 308 AR's. They are one of the softest shooting 308's on the market. ...although my opinion may be considered biased...
  3. Yeah, way too much downforce. You might need one top port at half of the diameter you currently have.
  4. Leupold Prismatic The glass etched reticle gives you some really crisp edges to work with when you're trying to be precise on small, long-range targets. Erik
  5. Yes, I can drive the shotgun between plates that fast. Would I ever run that hard in an actual competition?...probably not. Consider that we all try to manage our loads to shoot one-for-one on any given stage; a miss is at least 2 additional seconds. It's more beneficial to slow down a bit and not run 100% of your capability, to ensure you make all you hits. Now a shotgun side match is an entirely different story and I will let it fly, but the that's a different game. The video was primary a demonstration of shotgun recoil control with full power ammo. All 5 shots hit a steel IPSC plate at 10 yds. Phil Strader videod the run and can confirm the hits. Erik
  6. I've got a SV Infinity slide with the interchangeable breech face. I went to purchase a .40 breechface and discovered that SV offers several different sizes in a .40 breechface. Any recommendations? I will most likely use it for a 10mm build, but .40 S&W is also not out of the question. Thanks, Erik
  7. I've always liked the 7mmRUM. Gonna use it as my long range caliber on my next build...unless I get crazy and make a 6.5mm RUM wildcat. Erik
  8. I think it has more to do with reticle design rather than magnification range. Personally, I'd rather use a 1-4x with a good reticle compared to a 1-6x with a crappy or useless one. Erik
  9. That comp looks very familiar.....hmmm Erik
  10. Pat...how the hell do you live in Alaska and only have a 100 yard range! I always have this mental image of everyone in Alaska having their own private 1000 yd range out their back door. Erik
  11. How dare you confuse his claim with facts! J/K... Puma, Thank you for your support!! I'm a big fan of the Titan also, but there are quite a few Surefires, JP's, and Thundercomps in the winner's circle too. Erik
  12. Pat, Safariland has ELS mag pouches for the SCAR. Just order the ones for the M1A. They fit the 17 also. Would you mind sending me your Patrol Rifle Qual course. We are looking at adopting a new course and I'd like to try out your course. Thanks, Erik
  13. Yeah, the thread pitch is gonna limit your choices.
  14. The Burris is a pretty good scope. In the future, if you are considering going to back to my design, feel free to contact me with any questions regarding the reticle design or any other USO features. Erik
  15. I have been very impressed with Corbon's match ammunition. Their 69gr load was the most accurate factory load I tested. The velocity was exactly what the factory claimed, and they use Lapua brass. Doesn't get any better than that! Buy a box or two and give the Corbon a try. Erik
  16. I don't think the other comps Jim tested included a Titan Comp. Here's a 30rd FA mag dump using a Titan. And some video showing 2-4 rd bursts on a 25 yard target. USSA-1
  17. It's gonna be tough to increase the downforce of the comp unless there is a void between the end of the muzzle and the first baffle wall that you can tap into. Drilling side ports will help control some of the left/right torque, but at some expense of the downforce. For most, this is an acceptable trade and it help "tune" the comp to the shooter. Drilling another port on top in an attempt to increase the downforce likely won't work well. Think of it like this...drilling more holes in a bucket of water isn't going to force more water through the old holes, it's only going to reduce the pressure and drain faster. I would try to enlarge the current holes in the JP comp one drill bit size larger and see what that does before I started drilling new holes. Erik
  18. Looks like a very nice blueprint. Post some pics as soon as it's done....that's the rule! Erik
  19. Trapper was my first real shooting sponsor and taught me a lot of what I know about building 1911's and AR15's. He was a mentor to me in every sense and supported me throughout my career...even when I moved on to more prominent sponsors. One of Trapper's specialties was refinishing and metal work. To this day, I have not seen a better high polish refinishing job on a pistol than Trappers. He did behind the scenes work in the industry for everyone (Doug Turnbull and Wilson Combat..to name a few.) As Mig mentioned, Trapper was a United States Army Veteran and participated in the battle of Ia Drang Valley. He was one of those brave soldiers who when outnumbered and overrun, stood tall and held the line to protect his fellow wounded soldiers in the rear area waiting evac. He was an old school hero and a mentor to me. I will miss him. Erik
  20. Snowtop The Titan is a great comp and will serve you well....but I'm kinda biased because I designed it. But if I could not use a Titan, I would recommend Benny's Rolling Thunder Comp. Benny is a great guy and he designed one hell'uva good comp. Erik
