  1. I like the Mitchell Rt side magrelease- sturdy and IMHO a better unit that the c/s or sa. I have one on my 1911 and 2011 Price is about 125 from speedshooter-listed under "misc"
  2. The one real cut up slide from the Gans site does look like porn to me, as does the one with the comp.. .I neglected to look at those before if posted Gary will probably be the one to customize my slide for my next SS project, so this thread is quite helpful.
  3. The guns depicted look good to me. . . I like to have freedom to work within the rules to customize a gun that feels like I want it to and be a personalized gun at the same time. If either of the guns were shooting against mine, I wouldn't complain of an unfair advantage. . . . The SS rules seem pretty well crafted at this time, and allow for the venerable 1911 to be "customized" - just like a 1911 should be Anyway, I like to see what imagination does with a working 1911, and I'd hate to see the SS rules get botched up with a bunch of additional restrictions. Imagination and customization ideas are part of what makes this so fun.
  4. I'd like to shoot a match with you guys. may have to get by when in Michigan visiting my cousin's, etc- one of whom has been shooting with you all. Still warm down here- we shoot all year. . . so you're always welcome at Pitt County Wildlife Club. USPSA shoots 4th sat. Have a great last match for the year!
  5. Great Camera work there. . . . Sounds like a competitor I'd like to buy a round or two for
  6. Did a recent rebarell for my SS gun, primarily used for USPSA SS div. Went ahead and installed the Wilson ext SS slide stop- nice looking, I polished its matte finish to match the EB Wide SS ambi already installed. I'm trying it due to having small hands and I thought this might be easier to depress if needed. I'm used to my old stop letting the slide go after the mag is inserted. . . . I was iniostially worried this new ext stop would lock up or be inadvertantly activated, but so far so good. Easy to hit for that (hopefully) rare slide lock reload. So far so good- 2 local matches 3 practice sessions and all's well I post up if problems.
  7. Remember, CARFAX and other reporting agencies can only report reported losses from participating insurance companies. adjusters etc. An absence of CARFAX data does not mean there have been no losses to a vehicle. many time losses are repaired and not reported so inspect the vehicle closely.
  8. Check out NCSection.org- Statesville match is on at 1pm on Sunday 18 whci is just up the road. Not sure about the eateries. . . .
  9. You may want to look at the frame itself. You did not specify, but if the vise was tightened at the frame area it could have bent the frame. This might cause a slide stop insertion problem and make the gun tight at the bent area. I's look closely at the frame and check it out. Hope all's well.
  10. Went from an S&A magwell to the SV in May of this year. Way easier reloads! I like the look, the weight and the faster reload. Nicely machined and functional. For My app this is the setup. I like the plastic insert of the Dawson which I don't have, but the unsightly gap at the bottom is a no-go. Use longer basepads and reload with authority! Go on an' git it! The SV is the way to go.
  11. 14# Wolff VAR recoil spring. 17#MS works well for MG 200gr JFP at major 171pf same for Zero 230 gr FMJ
  12. Muzzle down for me- keeps debris out, better if it rains. Turn shotgun upside down to load side saddle and tube when needed. Also easy for others to see into chamber that same is empty.
  13. My SS rig does this also. . . . about 95% of the time. When you have to have a slide lock re-load its a real time saver. Never had a problem with any other components such as fire control following with it either- that would be a problem! Let it ride down and keep your finger off the trigger and you are good to go. One thing that it good to check also is that the feed lips of the magazine are hitting the bottom of the ejector- always good to check
  14. cool shots! used to run my 92 acura integra gsr in csp back in 95 those r1s were eating up much money I think shooting is cheaper! maybe- in the long run. . . nice ride used to love to watch the ss guys tear it up in the vettes and rx7's tts. down here in nc.
  15. Nothing like a little liquid courage to steady the shaky hand before you touch the sanding roll to metal. . . . I've a Craftsman rotary tool thats worked very well- a corded version. I think media selection for the application and technique are key to a good job. And of course remembering that you can always take off a little more. . . .
  16. Ive got one on my SBR. Works well so far. Seems to be ok after getting bounced around some. I think the design would be better with a threaded end as opposed to a glue on. . .
  17. Been with the Blade tech holster for a while. DOH originally, when the rule changed I simply changed the DOH loop for a TEK LOK. Ran the 771's for years and they're good- but I'm liking the CR Speed pouches better, and they can be used for other type magazines- both ss and fatties. CR Speed belt with the new red stripes would be a cool and excellent belt. Mines the old CR belt.
  18. Yep- its me. . . girly man hands. I like the Mitchell release. Its more grippy and a little more easy to work with and a true drop in unit. Both brands seem to hold up well. BWNC's has been on at least 2 pistols . . . I have a Mitchell on each LTD gun and my SS gun. Be carefull about undercutting the trigger guard too much or there may be premature mag release. . .
  19. Congrats!! Looks like your already sharing your knowledge! Cant wait to see your future projects!
  20. Down here in eastern nc with temps in the mid 90's and 95% humidity you can get hot and burned(out) quickly. Lately, ive been using the neutrogena 70 power factor spray- not quite as economical as the rub on, but not greasy, easy to apply and youll actually wear it, and it doesnt stink. . .super product. about 7-10 for the can.
  21. Yep, Brownells- The Krieger detent spotting drill. Drills on oth ends thru the plunger tube. You can detent the slide stop with one end and the safety with the other. Works great- glad I bought one. . .
  22. I've found variance as you describe to be the norm on the 650 using powders such as 700x as well as Clays and E3. I get better metering with VV powders in the 650. Mostly I load .40 and .45. USPSA major. Nevertheless, I meter testing charges with all stations loaded with like headstamps and full powder measure in "production mode" testing every 5 or 10 charges for an average until the desired charge is reached. I'm using the Dillon digital scale, properly calibrated and set to "click over" the the next .1 as the scale "decides" the weight. The proper weight being the lesser. . . Check at range with chrono to be in proper power factor as well as checks for overpressure. It goes without saying that the powder bar and all allied equipment be properly adjusted, but I still see the variance with the "disc" powders as well as more ES. Fiddle with the cartridge "belling" , OAL and be smooth and consistent, figure your average for proper PF and go get em. . . Make sure you can factor in the variance and still make PF as applicable. . .
  23. Would have shot it . . . but on a plane tomorrow to Lake Tahoe for a little vac time. . . I appreciate the invite though- We'll have to catch up next month at SWGC perhaps. . . Shoot strong!
