  1. Suzhansen, is your entire team from the PNW? That's my old stomping grounds, haven't been back there since 2001.
  2. I tried a couple of makes of factory ammo- looks like .125 to .1285. I have a bolt coming, I will go ahead and assemble it and see what it looks like from underneath with the bolt forward and a cartridge in the chamber. Holding the barrel vertical with a case in the chamber, slowly press the bolt down against the barrel. If the case snaps under the extractor you should be alright.
  3. I milled .011" off the front of the bolt. Headspace is still a little deep but it ignites 100% now. Not the best way to fix it, but the best way I had with the tools at hand.
  4. Notice that that sneaky Kurtm has avoided telling us his preferred ammo for exactly 200 yards. Sometimes I'm so smart I only amaze myself!
  5. This is the gun. We couldn't send the barrel back because it was cut to 13.5" and had a brake permanently installed. The brake is an Armalite 5.56 opened up to 9mm. Brake detail
  6. I'm guessing this is the one you ordered? http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Kaw_Valley_Precision_16_9MM_4150_QPQ_AR_15_Barrel_p/kvp-9mm-bbl-16-laser.htm I just put together a PCC with this barrel. I also wanted it as light as possible, but didn't want to deal with NFA stuff. This was the only lightweight profile 16" barrel I could find and I looked pretty hard because they were sold out for a few weeks, but I waited for it to come back in stock since I couldn't find anything else. I haven't shot it yet, but did notice that the chamber is really tight. Rounds that will easily pass my EGW gauge (which is pretty tight) aren't all plunking completely freely into the barrel, but it I think they'll still chamber fine. That is indeed the barrel I ordered. I should have it in hand tomorrow, I will drop test some factory and the typical coated lead loads that will be used in it. When you get it check case protrusion before assembling - drop a round or piece of brass in the chamber and measure how far it sticks out. It should be .135" to get proper headspace. I didn't think to check this before assembling mine and now am having headspacing issues. I'm going to pull the barrel and measure mine; I think the chamber is cut too deep. Assembled an upper for a friend with this barrel and had lots (like 90%) of lite strike problems because of excessive headspace. I fixed the issue but it would have been nice to not have too. If I recall correctly, case protrusion was around .118. Other than that, it is a really nice barrel and my friend really likes the lightweight profile. The gun handles great with a very light feeling front end.
  7. Had this happen once to one of our rental guns. The detent was stuck because the top of the hole it's in was slightly compressed. I used a sharpened triangular file to bevel the top edge of the detent hole and it popped right out.
  8. Vortex Razor HD w/ JM reticle. The only way to get a better scope than that is to spend another $1,000.00.
  9. I registered for this match but am wait-listed according to practiscore. Any idea how far down the list I am. A reply via PM is fine. Thanks, Tim
  10. Then 3G Nation could adopt it and rename it Rustic Division, cause, ya know, different.
  11. I don't know the thickness but a local club uses pipe for pistol and shotgun targets without any problems. I was even shooting some of them at the last match with my 300BLK (subsonic) and it didn't leave a mark on them.
  12. There are many right answers and no perfect one. 16 and 18 are both fine, mid or rifle length gas is fine too. My current setup is a Mega Arms 16" rifle gas & Seekins adjustable gas block combined with a Vltor A5 recoil system and a JP stainless LWBCG and JP comp. My rifles recoil is flat and soft, but there are many other combinations of components that will work just as well. Really, with any decent set of parts it's the shooter not the gun.
  13. The JP LM Stainless carrier is light enough for me.
  14. With Vortex Strike Eagles selling for about $330 any budget 1-4 power scope is a waste of money. My opinion of course.
  15. I have a friend who wants a Benelli non pg stock for his M4. If anyone has one they are willing to part with, or knows a place that has them in stock, please send me a pm. Thanks, Tim
  16. I have used Briley and Carlsons. I can't tell a difference.
  17. My son uses the Shooters Source, he's been happy with it, and has not had any mag compatibility issues with it so far.
  18. I like the ar platform but I suspect that we are going to find that it is not the best carbine in 9mm. It will be fun to see what the future holds, and what innovations are going to occur in the next few years.
  19. Currently helping a friend set up a gun for pcc. We chose one of the Armalite comps for his gun. I opened the exit holes to 9mm and we sent it and the barrel out to be shortened, pinned and welded to 16". When done it will look just like one of the 13.5" Armalite rifles. Will post pictures when it's finished. As for the op's original question, look at the JP 9mm comp. I think best effect will come from maximum frontal area for the gas to work against. With pistols you want to keep the muzzle down so upward porting is effective. With rifles you want to push the gun forward so wide flat ports that vent to the sides work best.
  20. Most of my playing around ARs have Wilson TTUs in them. My three gun rifle has the AR Gold.
