  1. I don't plan for the easy shots, I plan for the tough ones. There are too many times, at too many matches, I've seen competitors shooting multiple extra shots at targets that were hard set. I also like extra shot, and extra velocity for those times you can take down multiple plates with one shot. My preferred load is the Remington Gun Club, 1 1/8oz, 1200fps. Then it's just a matter of matching my choke tube to the targets. Light Mod for most stages with mixed targets, Cylinder Bore for all clay stages and an Extra Full for stages with exceptionally hard moving targets.
  2. Doesn't matter, I heard if you put your dead batteries in the microwave for 5 minutes it charges them right up!
  3. I did not polish my spring, nor the inside of the receiver extension. I did grease both liberally and my gun cycles smoothly and has no spronig when fired. Polishing may help, but I think the grease is the most functional part of the equation.
  4. In general, yes, you can re-ream a 9X19 barrel to 38 Super or Super Comp. The chamber will be a little over sized at the base end but this will not be a functional issue, just a little hard on your brass. Your problem is not this, your problem is the front of your reamer, the pilot, is larger in diameter than the inside of the barrel is. This is probably only by a couple of thousands of an inch, but if you force it you will mar and scratch the inside of the barrel. you either need a reamer with a smaller diameter pilot, or have your reamer ground down a couple of thousandths of an inch.
  5. This, in the 54" length... http://www.brownells.com/shooting-accessories/gun-storage/gun-cases/signature-series-3-gun-competition-cases-prod27126.aspx?avs%7cPrice_1=80xzzx00+TO+299xzzx99
  6. I'm using this one in the .250M size. http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/sights/front-sights/rifle-fire-sights-prod16338.aspx
  7. It's really hard to beat a C-More on a PCC.
  8. In my group there are several Versamax users, two 1301s, an 1100, an SLP and a Benelli M4. We all shoot the Remington Gun Club 1 1/8oz, 71/2, 1200fps load. It has proven to be a reliable load and we have yet to have a bad shell.
  9. I widen slightly and deepen slightly. Then polish and bend. I did my own this way, and several for friends. Have not had one break yet.
  10. I've been playing with one a little, I really like them so far. Kurts assessment is pretty much dead on.
  11. Looking at rifles at Bushmaster Tarheel the ones I saw the most of seemed to be the Armalite and JP. Saw lots of different breaks being used, but those two were the most common. Maybe 25% Armalite, 20% JP and 55% everything else. Just my unscientific observation.
  12. For those who may not have received the e-mail yet... Challenge Competitors, I would like to thank everyone for their participation in this weekends Tarheel 3-Gun Bushmaster Challenge. As the title says expect a challenging match. No 45 sec. stages and done. We have worked very diligently toward giving you a great match without using a sling. We have accomplished that and still give you a true Outlaw format. No slings will be needed on any stage. The range will be open to walk the stages at 1:00 - 7:00 pm. Any stage that the RO’s are shooting on Friday during this time are completely off limits till they have finished shooting the entire squad. The Rifle sight in range will open at 2:00-6:30 Friday and 10:00 - 11:30 Saturday. Pistol and shotgun shooting is not allowed on the rifle sight in range. If you need to test fire them you will need to check with the RO at sight in range and they will direct you to which pistol bay to use. If you shoot your shot gun you are required to pick up your shells. Remember the sight in range is just that. Get sighted in and be courteous to those that need to do the same. All times and rules above will be strictly enforced. No exceptions. Saturday Times Squads 1-8 Shooters meeting 6:30 Sharp Squads 9-16 Shooters meeting 12:30 Sharp Sunday Times Role Call on Stages at 6:50 Sharp rounds down range 7:10 Those shooting afternoon be at your stage by 12:30. 13. All I know is that between FN, NRA World Championship and maybe Iron Man East a lot of my September is going to be spent at Peacemaker!
  14. And here's why good eye wear is important. 2009 IDPA Indoor Nationals at Smith & Wesson. I took a full 38 Special bullet bounce-back from the backstop. Penetrated the poly-carbonate lens against my cheek bone just under the eye socket but did not harm me.
  15. You need to shoot the gun first. Set a target at 50 yards and shoot it with slugs. First shoot it with your mid bead directly aligned with the front bead, or fiber optic. If this produces a point of aim impact then you want to mill the rib so that your sight of choice has the bottom of the notch even with the top of the rib where the mid bead is located when the sight is set fully down. If the above causes a low impact then shoot the gun with the mid bead under the front bead, looking like a figure 8. If this results in a point of aim impact then install the rear sight so that the bottom of the notch is the same height as the top of the mid bead (or a few thousandths lower) above the rib where the mid bead is mounted. If your chosen rear sight has plenty of adjustment then just install it with the bottom of the notch even with the top of the rib when the sight is adjusted all of the way down. Here are a couple of pictures of the Hi-Viz read sight I installed on my Versamax...

    Short funny jokes

A horse walks into a bar... The bar tender asks "why the long face"? The horse replies "because my alcoholism is destroying my family"...
  17. Where did you get them? I see your local, if you want, drop by Sharpshooters and I'll bring you a box if you want to try them. I can also check and see if my distributor still has them if you want to get some. Tim Bacus I've shot with you at Quantico (Steel Challenge) and Black Creek (back when they had 3-gun). I'll swing by next week. Is it okay to shoot them at the range there? Slugs are fine on the range. I'm in Mon, Tue, Thur & Fri evenings.

  19. I work in a gun store / range so I ordered them through a distributor. The Midway price is pretty good, only about $12 more than I paid for the 80 round case.
  20. Here's the deal on that. If you feel inside the receiver, where the tube meets the receiver, you will feel a lip or ring of metal where they join. This lip is what retains your follower. Take the gun apart and drop the follower down the tube and you will see how it is stopped. You can remove as much material on the receiver as you want, but if you remove too much of this lip the follower will no longer be retained. The better the follower fits, and the larger in diameter it is, the less of the lip is needed. When I open up a Versamax port I end up removing the lip from about the 10 o'clock position to the 2 o'clock position (looking into the tube, holding it with the receiver bottom up). So far I have found the RCI follower is the best, it is a nice large .908 in diameter and has enough length that it can't twist pass the lip. In this picture of my gun I have removed the lip from the area between the two red lines.
  21. I just started using the 7/8oz Fiocchis in my Versamax. I like them so much I bought 400 of them!
  22. I shot the MTAC for a year and my son shot one for two years. They are great scopes and the drops on the reticle are right on. That said, I can't see why anyone would buy one when the 1-6 Strike Eagle is in the same price range and offers 6X magnification. I bought my son a Strike Eagle and he finds it better than the MTAC in every way.
