  1. Not sure about a draw and fire 1 shot down zero.............not used much,,,,,,,,,most good shooters will go 2 to the body and 1 to the head and down 0 in a sub 3 seconds,,,,,,,,,,,2.50 would be good from cover?
  2. I talked to my eye dr and had my contacts setup for shooting,,,,,,,,,I am right handed and left eye dominant,,,which is a problem for shooting handguns,,,,,,,,now my prescription blocks out the front sight for my left eye forcing my right eye to take over!!!! And I can see a lot better at a distance since the left is stronger now,,,,,,,,,,,,took some getting used to ,,,but worth it,,,,,,,when reading I just use reading glasses over my contacts!!!! Been that way for several years now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,funny thing the last time I had mye eyes checked the dr forgot what we had done and told me my sight was improving in my left eye for some reason,,,,,,,,,,,,I reminded him what we had done and why!!!!
  3. Just for thought,,,,,,,,,go to the line with a plan in your head of how you want to shoot the stage,,,,,,,,,,,it helps!!!
  4. I am running a Kimber TLE 4" 45acp in CCP,,,,,,,,it is an all steel frame,,,,,,I have replaced a lot of the factory parts; ie. sights, trigger, ejector, extractor, sear spring,,recoil and main springs.....stock disco and hammer working good so far!!! There are some people that don't like Kimbers I am not one of them----they are like women.....some need a little more foreplay!!!
  5. I agree,,,I am going to shoot my Shield (what I carry) to stay in practice!!! But will mainly be running my STI eagle 45acp in ESP!!! (now that is a gamer gun when downloaded to 125,000!!!
  6. I agree,,,been shooting IDPA about 8-9 years now,,,,,,mostly CDP and ESP,,,,,,,actuallly have seen you at some matches Jim!!! Was at a gunshow yesterday with several shooting buddies and that was the main topic--------which gun to play with in CCP!!!
  7. Practice some ,,,,go to a major match and join up with a squad where you don't know anyone!!! You will be surprised how many people will voltuneer to help you and give you tips and tricks!! And you meet some of the most interesting people. We usually go as a group of 4-6,,,,all friends that shoot together all the time and end horseplaying!!!
  8. I agree...I sent 3 STI 45acp mags and some of the loads 185gr LSWC (for ESP) and had him tune them 7 years ago...he actually sent me back a extra set of springs but I have never had to change them!!! Clean them a couple times a year and never had a mag or FTF problem......aprox 50,000 rounds through a STI 2011......was expensvie, but worth it!!!
  9. WST is all I have ever used in 45acp both with 200gr Laser Cast SWC @ 1.250 oal and 230gr Laser Cast 230 LRN,,,,,,I use a little less powder than most as the Laser Cast seem to crono better than some of the softer bullets,,,,,power factors and grs of powder will vary a little depending on the gun.
  10. Just can't stop myself,,,,,,,,,,,,having been a IDPA SO for 9 years now, I see nothing in the changes that will make it better for the shooters or the SO's,,,,,what was unclear is still unclear and they actually muddied it up some more!!!
  11. My wife says all the time,,,,,its either on gun trading or shooting!!!!! I disagree,,,,,she has never watched Jessie Duff shoot!!!
  12. I am no master for sure........shot IDPA for about 8 years now.....that is with 2 heart attacks and I open heart with bypass's.........been out of the game for a couple years,,,,,just now getting back into shooting shape again,,,,,,,,,3-5yds point shooting works for me,,,,,,,,,5-15yds front sight with a shadow of the back sight,,,,,anything else,,get a good sight picture and gently squeeze!!!
  13. I have Chips power mags for about 10 years now.....new springs on occasion......keep on working... Have heard good about Tripp & Wilosn also!
  14. Reliability should be the same.....accuracy? You will loose some sight radius...should not affect you in IDPA (must be a bushing barrel) and you will have a nice carry gun also!!! The shorter gun will be a little faster to draw, tranistion! Go for it!
  15. Burwell does a great job and quick turnaround.....check out his website for pictures and prices!!
  16. For IDPA I use the folowing: 147gr Precision Delta 3.2gr Titegroup Win Sm Primers 1.150 oal Makes a sweet load in a Springfield 1911 and makes the required power factor also!
  17. Tried several different ones...now have Dawson on all my competion guns.
  18. They are a nice reduced recoil shooting iron..........I have a Eagle in 45acp that I have shot for 3 years now in IDPA.....works great with CDP loads (165,000+) and is even sweeter with ESP loads (125,000+)...the only change is the recoil spring and a little less powder!! You would not be sorry, Jerry
  19. I have been running a STI Eagle 45acp in IDPA for 3 years now......using a commili double buffer and recoil rod......12# recoil spring..never had a problem. I usually change the buffers out after about 5000 rounds.
  20. I am right handed and left eye dominant...........about 2 years ago had my eye doctor make me some shooting contacts that work really well......left eye is simi-blocked out at pistol sighting length and is really good at a distance....allows for shooting with both eyes open and has helped a bunch....just don't try reading any fine print with them in!!! Good luck, Jerry
  21. Matt at Wilson advised the same thing....that i am doing also! Got some fresh loads ready to check them out this Sat (providing it is above the 20 degrees they are calling for here) Thanks, Jerry
  22. After setting down with my buddy,,,,he uses the same mags,,,,,,,it became obvious as to what the problem was,,,,,,mine were seated too deep on the OAL....we use the same bullets, powder, and mags. My first round was nosediving (actually catching on the rim of the 2nd round in the mag,,,,,it being slightly forward in the mag due to being to short) everything is wonderful again!!! Happy New Year to all!!!
  23. Welcome.......I haven't been on this forum much......mostly just read and learn.....there is a wealth of knowledge on here!!! You can learn a lot form some of these guys!! Happy New Year to all!!!
  24. I have had real good luck with the Cylinder and Slide kits s as well...............that said the best trigger I ever had was a self done job on a Les Baer TRS, it took a couple of adjustments but got it down to 2# with 100% function,,,,,,actually shot CDP with if for 3 years, then got to wanting to try another class and like a fool sold it to a friend of mine. Jerry
