  1. I use Nu-Finsh car wax in the media, never have any dust, and get shiny brass.
  2. Oops, I missed that, too. BTW, the M&P I mentioned was a new semiauto, not an older revolver.
  3. I have used 4.4 - 4.7 grains of Titegroup for 115gr FMJ 9mm, 180gr FMJ .40, and 230gr FMJ .45. http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp lists the range 12 4.4 - 4.8. Looking back at my records from when I was shooting that through an M&P, 4.4gr gave me 685fps for a PF of 157.5 and 4.6gr gave me 721fps for 165.8. I did not get the numbers Hodgdon publishes. They say 4.4gr should yield 744fps, but it didn't out of my M&P.
  4. Just loan him a setup to get him out there and started. After a match or two he will either be hooked and buy something or he won't and will not have bought something he won't use much.
  5. 66 Valiant with a Slant-6 and a Holley UniBarrel. Paid $225 in 1981, put 60K miles on it, sold it a year later for $250. The next several I drove or drug to the junkyard.
  6. Jack, If you're not going to do it yourself, you probably already know where you're going to take it, but just in case... A good friend of mine owns Complete Car Care on Gervais. They aren't the cheapest, but they are the best. I still drive/haul anything I can't/won't do to them from North Augusta. I met the owner back in 96 when a cow-orkerdropped his Volvo off because the battery kept dieing. I took him there to pick it up and they told him it was a loose wire that they tightened and charged him $5. Any other place could have easily hit him for an alternater, voltage regulator, and battery. I haven't taken anything anywhere else since.
  7. Forget about the rest of the people, I want to see Rhonda, Mike, and Travis again! Just kidding...pretty much everyone we met at last year's camp was great. I am bummed that Nick can't make it. I got to talk to him some last year and he is an impressive example of what our youth can be. It doesn't seem possible to express how grateful we are to everyone involved for putting this on. This is the high point of 2009 for my son, Tommy, and he has been talking about it all year.
  8. My buddy, DeweyH, was running me through an IDPA stage. There were 10 targets so 20 rounds minimum. I'm still learning to call my shots and I thought I had a couple misses on two of the far targets so I took an extra shot at each. That meant I ran out with one shot left to go on the last target and had to do an extra reload. After I finished, he told me, "That's what I like about you.....you're stupid!" I still laugh when I think about it.
  9. I had similar symptoms when a set screw backed out of a coupling in the steering linkage. The set screw went through the outer collar and "into"/against a splined shaft. It started by occasionally jumping a spline if I turned too hard. It eventually cut loose on the highway at 80mph when the front right tire blew out. Me and a friend were on our way north and I was asleep in the backseat. When the tire blew, it pulled right, he jerked the steering wheel left and it just spun. After fixing it, I had to drive the rest of the way to MD and back...he wouldn't touch that steering wheel again.
  10. Search tip....if you want to find all posts that have both "brass punch" and "steel punch" in them, use the following in the search field: "brass punch"+"steel punch" Sorry, no help on the real subject matter.
  11. Buy it here: https://benosmozo.800cart.com/?id=benosmozo...%2F+Super+Swage I have one and LOVE it!
  12. During our RO class, Troy made the very good point that even if they tell you they are turning right (or left), iyou need to be ready for them to possibly turn the other way and there is no penalty for them doing so. (Though I'd certainly discuss that with them after the range was clear) My understanding is that "access to the trigger" means the gun has been drawn far enough to allow access to the trigger, it does not require "accessing the trigger" to be a DQ.
  13. I'm glad to hear you're ok. I would offer any help I could, but I'm pretty much worthless on crutches for another month or two.
  14. Just checking...do you have the large powder bar in?
  15. Good news! Please let us know how it progresses.
  16. Residents of some areas are understandably nervous...
  17. Any chance you are using the small (pistol) powder bar instead of the large (rifle) powder bar?
  18. The reason for referring to the sections related to "handling" ammunition is because that is where they define what a dummy round is. The DQ'able offense is not for "handling" a dummy round, but rather: Having a loaded firearm other than when specifically ordered to by the Range Officer.
  19. This also defines empty cases as Dummy ammunition: 2.4.2 Dummy ammunition (including practice or training rounds, snap caps and empty cases), loaded magazines, loaded speed loading devices and live rounds must not be handled in a Safety Area under any circumstances (see Rule 10.5.12).
  20. My guess would be Match DQ due to unsafe gun handling: 10.5.13 Having a loaded firearm other than when specifically ordered to by the Range Officer. Later, in glossary: Loaded Firearm . . . . . . . .A firearm having a live or dummy round in the chamber or cylinder, or having a live or dummy round in a magazine inserted in the firearm. Editted to add: It is the responsibility of the shooter to make sure their gun is truly empty when finishing a stage.
  21. When we rode/raced MX more we had a 31' class C Funmover. It was built on a E450 chassis with a V10. It would move...loaded and pulling an 8x16 enclosed trailer with 7 motorcycles it still managed to hit the 97mph shutoff. A couple of things I learned: I was told, so take it with a grain of salt, that RVs built on the Ford 450 chassis had full length frame rails while those built on the 350 chassis had extensions welded on and were not as strong. My 31' Funmover was at the weight limit for the rear tires BEFORE I loaded anything in it! I went with the hghest rated, best tires I could find, but that rig had rims that only fit "light truck" tires. I would strongly suggest one that used real truck tires. I had 3 blowouts with mine (speed may have been a factor). I got 6 mpg with the V10 at 80, 5.5 when pulling a trailer. Auto levelling systems are cool...me putting blocks under the tires was a PITA. My class C E450 really did feel just like driving a full size van. I drove a class A that felt much bigger. Everyone remembers that the rear wheels turn a shorter arc when turning tight but many forget that all that body extending rearward past the rear wheels also swings out much farther than you might think. Mine had an air compressor installed in what had been one of the underside copmpartments...well worth it. I also bought a 12 (20?) ton hydraulic/pneumatic jack that made tire changes easy with the air compressor.
  22. I tried...I think the slide moved. I can do it about 50% of the time if I remove the recoil spring.
  23. Being a fairly new shooter (3 years) and a brand new RO, I prefer to hear warnings. If I'm that close, I want to know it because I don't try to push the edge. When ROing much better/more experienced shooters, I am less likely to warn, though, as I assume they know they are close and I'll tell them if they cross the line.
