  1. Bayonet charge! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Thanks for the replies. I went and did a search (should have started with that), and will probably still run mine with the tube slightly loose before clamping. I'll have to retest with slugs to see where it is printing. Thanks again!
  2. Hi, I just picked up one of the 24" JM Pro's last week and so far so good with about 70 rounds through it. I have a newbie question regarding whether it is worth keeping the barrel clamp on or simply removing it? I'm not sure it is worth the hassle of dealing with it every time you want to disassemble the gun and the potential for it impacting POI as I have read. Are there any tangible benefits in using it? Thanks!
  3. I have been using Tripp mags in a 10mm for about 5 years and a couple of them have developed this problem. I called Tripp and they had me replace the springs, but that has not seemed to solve the problem. It may well be a feed lip issue, looks like I will need to call them and send the mags in. I have a bunch of old 8 round mec-gars that never have this problem.
  4. I ran 220gr lead bullets in my 10mm (Dan Wesson) for about a year and a half. I only switched because I got tired of cleaning the fouling associated with lead bullets. My load during that time was 3.4gr of Clays which produced about 170 PF for me. It was a very soft shooting load. Anything over 3.4grs of Clays started bulging the case so that load was right at the threshold. A better choice might be Solo 1000 or WST.
  5. Years ago I had a trigger job done on my Delta Elite which still had the Colt factory parts in it. After about 1000 rounds the gun started having similar issues. I took it apart and found extensive wear on both the sear and the hammer hooks. Colt was using poor quality surface hardened parts and the gunsmith had removed enough material that the steel was no longer hard. Since I didn't have much money back then (I couldn't afford a smith to fix it) I simply dropped in replacements (with a little tuning) from Chip McCormick and the gun has been 100% ever since. These days I would probably use Cylinder & Slides drop in parts if the issue presented itself again.
  6. I have been using Ergo's for several years and really like them. They are inexpensive and I think they are a bit thinner than regular grips. They have a skateboard tape finish, but unlike tape they don't wear out.
  7. Yeah, that sound's like my last match. Seems I fumbled something on every stage, but still had a great time.
  8. I know that my M&P pro will not shoot 147's at all (even keyholes sometimes). I have some 124's that I need to load up and test. A friend of mine found that his would only shoot 115's accurately. If mine has issues with 124 gr bullets it looks like I will need to contact S&W and see what they say about a replacement barrel. Either that or go for the aftermarket solution like a KKM.
  9. It appears that you have to click the embedded link in the PDF to get to the page you are refering to. I hope its not just a misprint, a XDm 5.25 in .40 would be great.
  10. I prefer the heavier bullets myself. I am currently shooting 200 gr BBI's at 170 PF using 4.2 gr of Solo 1000. While I can adapt to 180's in Major, I like the softer push of the 200 gr. I have fired a friends .45 ACP using 200 gr bullets at the same power factor and it felt exactly like my load in 10mm (as it should).
  11. I currently have a XD Tac in .40 that has a Springer Precision trigger with Dawson sights that I love. I'm hoping that Springfield will come out with a 5.35 in .40 since I would like to be able to switch between minor and major. If they do, I am going to have to get one. I would be curious about the slide weight difference between the XD 5" and the new XDM 5.25 with the lighting cuts. Rob, thanks so much for your range reports and information. It's good to hear how well the gun is working for you. How does the gun work with 147gr bullets? The reason I ask is because my M&P Pro does not like them at all.
  12. I just received three 17 rnd mags from 44mag.com. Great service! I cancelled my backorder at Midway which had again delayed the ETA.
  13. I ordered some from Midway for $30 each and put them on backorder since they didn't have any. Supposedly they are getting theirs in around April 15th, I hope...
  14. While I use standard USPSA targets and a few steel plates (Evil Roy from Action Target), sometimes I will just use paper plates stapled to a piece of cardboard that is about the size of a USPSA target. Then I just tape the "misses" that are outside of the plate. It's cheap and I don't have to go down range as much (unless I miss alot )
  15. After reading an article on this situation from Duane Thomas I worked with my optometrist to have a short distance perscription in my dominant eye, and a long distance perscription in the other. While things were a little funky when I first used them, your brain adapts very quickly in transistioning between the two lenses depending on where you are focusing. Basically my eyes switch dominance depending on the distance with this setup. This has worked well for me.

    BBI

    My order arrived yesterday. Yay!

    BBI

Looks like I'm in the same boat, just going to have to be patient. I have 2K on order since 2/14 and no response to my emails or calls regarding schedule. I do like the product though! At least I now know why they are backed up. Thanks everyone!
  18. Has anyone else been having problems reaching BBI? I've been trying to check on an order for 3 weeks and I haven't received a call back or had my emails answered. It's a shame because I really like the product.
  19. While I don use the powders that you have listed, I'm sure plenty of folks can provide you load data for the bullets that you are wanting to use. My personal experience is that I get higher pressures with jacketed bullets when trying to make major than lead. Typically for making major I can take jacketed bullet load data and drop the charge by .5 grains as a starting point for the same weight bullet in lead. Out of the powders you listed, VV N320 will be the most popular due to the low recoil impulse with Titegroup being second. Do a search on this forum and you will find lots of load data for the bullets and powder that you are wanting to use. Good luck!
  20. I just recently purchased a CR Speed Hi Torque Belt and got it 2" larger. I wear pants with a 34" waist and bought the 36" belt. It fits perfectly with just the right amount of overlap. Don't know why I didn't buy one sooner... I too am interested to see if I can find a 30" belt for my son who has a 28" waist.
  21. When I was younger I was always near-sighted and wore corrective lenses. Now that I am older, I can't see close if I have glasses on to see far. So, following a tip from Duane Thomas, I ended up having a prescription for my dominant eye that allows the front site to be in focus and a prescription for my other eye that keeps long distance items in focus. When I am shooting I am focusing on the front site, so the targets are always fuzzy for me. What is amusing is notcing how the brain will switch eye dominance depending on the distance that I am focusing on. The joys of old age...
  22. Rhino Metals has some safes that seem like a good value. Their Bighorn series has 10 gauge steel, 70 min fire protection, lifetime warranty, 700 lbs (59” H x 30” W x 24” D) for around $1000 at Costco. However, it is imported from China. Their higher end Rhino series safes appear to be made in the states, but obviously cost more money.
  23. Erik, Just to clarify, the trigger on the M&P is more like a two stage trigger than a double action trigger. There is significant take-up and then the trigger engages the final stage. I believe the Pro series advertise a 4.5 lb trigger, this is much less than a traditional double action. The trigger on the M&P is similar to that of a glock, or an XD (although an XD is a true single action tigger). Years ago I had bought my wife a Glock 19, but after firing my full size XD (with a Springer trigger job)she now wants something different. She finds that the corners of the Glock grip are too angular and feel uncomfortable to her when compared to the XD grip which is more rounded. She doesn't care for the narrow grip of my 1911 single stack. At the moment I too am considering a 5" M&P Pro in 9mm for her.
  24. Congrats on your new purchase, you are going to love it. I started off on a Lee Turret Press, which was good to get my feet wet. But I soon found that it just took too much time to reload when I had a buddy come visit from out of state and we wanted to reload 1000 rounds for his visit. After that, I bought a Dillon 550 and it has been one of the best purchases I ever made. Still going strong after 12 years of hard use.
  25. Just another thought is to try Steel Challange matches. Our club used to hold a Steel match on an alternate weekend from our USPSA matches and quite a few young folks would participate. While the accuracy required can be somewhat intimidating for new shooters, it has the advanatges of not requiring movement (for most of the courses), it gets them used to the RO commands, there are a limited number of set courses of fire, and they can start with rimfire (there is no penality for minor PF).
