  1. Dang....how could I forget Eastern Shore? (sorry Kenny) Best kept secret around!
  2. Welcome - Lexington Park area here! Come on down to Fredericksburg, Black Creek Steel, York Pa, Summit Point, etc. Steve
  3. Why risk messing up your comp with home-made chemical combinations? Is it really that bad? Shoot it clean and give it a scrape once in awhile. I have tried the Dillon Case Lube trick and it really does work. Steve
  4. Cy - Totally agree! We had to switch sights because the front sight was huuuuge on the wifes gun with that combo. We went with the standard Dawson. If you would like a picture of the latter setup PM me and I will send you a cell phone shot. If you want a good deal on the sight you mentioned let me know. We wont use it. Steve
  5. Cy - PLEASE have a Happy New Year! Here's to a great 2012 shooting season Steve
  6. But....you better be an Open shooter!
  7. Most holsters will work fine for the normal thumb rest....as long as you are speaking of Open guns.
  8. Ghost, CR Speed, Double Alpha will all work.
  9. Not sure about your powder bar issue but take the ratchet off and put it in a drawer. You dont need it.
  10. Cy - I struggled with this concept for a bit until I learned that the cadence revolves around seeing what is required and driving the gun. Once I started performing drills and relying on my timer to show me transitions and splits....it sort of came together. I had confused "cadence shooting" with shooting in a rythm vice shooting at a speed required for the difficulty and distance to the target. A shot at 10 yards sounded the same as a shot at 20 -25 yards. Simply put - I was lazy behind the gun. Steve
  11. There are a few threads on this topic. I'll save you some time - use what works for you! You decide where you want to hold over /under. If you are normally shooting under 25 yards then I would be dead on at closer distances. No point in holding over on a 7 yard target....but again it depends on what you like and the gun/caliber you are shooting. Steve
  12. My wife and I are fortunate to have our own home range. Over the past 3 years we have purchased quite a bit of steel. Recently, after attending a class with TJ, we discovered how much can be accomplished with 3 targets. Don’t get me wrong plate racks, Texas Stars, dueling trees etc are a blast…but not required. We purchased the portable systems made by NEVCO. (these targets incorporate a base, 2x4, hanger and mini IPSC target) The mobility of these targets allows us to move them around for various drills such as transition drills, accuracy, setups etc. Throw in a few simple 1x1 shooting boxes and we get some very good practice. We use to set up “mini stages” and shoot them. Though it is fun and keeps things from getting stale, we found we only became good at shooting the made up stage. Plus we discovered that we were not tracking our results by doing so. Why would we? We were not going to shoot the same stage the next session. Having a plan, timer and notebook are essential. Steve Andersons book, Dave Re’s card deck and Mike Seeklanders training guide have unlimited ideas and we use them. We even use the range and setups for dry fire, especially when working on a new technique or for really trying to hone something in. Better to drill it over and over then blast away! We also use paper targets….often. I feel the steel can make us a little lazy sometimes as the mind gets use to hearing the “ting” instead of getting the good hits. Paper brings us back in with our accuracy and we seldom shoot a full target. No shoots, barrels, soft cover etc keeps us honest. I hope this helps! Steve
  13. Congrats! That is an achievement to be proud of. Look at the years you have added to your life.
  14. Zach - do me a favor please. Print this, stick it in an envelope and put it in a safe place for say...15-20 years. At that time pull it out and re-read. You will crack up..... or cry! Steve
  15. Joe, Quick answer - YES! I have seen guys buy the top of the line slug guns and slugs only to be outdone with a person shooting a Rem 870 with a $2.50 box of Remington Sluggers. If you want another slug option give Lightfields a try. Tons of weights and sizes to choose from but VERY accurate. I have shot them from smooth and rifled bores with great success. Steve
  16. Agreed. USPSA should be buying stuff like this and posting on the front page of the web-site. Along with your pictures Sir!
  17. Thanks for the info! My new gun arrives in a few days. I plan on playing with a few spring setups but figure the 10 lb to be pretty close for starters with a 10-12oz slide. Going with NO shock buff.
  18. Pat - any idea what your slide weighs? Steve
  19. Charles always does great work, he really has a talent. It would be nice to see his videos used as USPSA promos.
  20. Save yourself a bunch of time, money and headache....just send it to Dan.
  21. Alan, not trying to insult here....are you giving the case too much flare? If not, I had the same thing happening. Once I polished the powder funnel it all went away. Steve
  22. Gotta chime in here....Brian is always available to answer any questions one may have. For me, and others, he also provides a place for all of us to sell our guns and accessories. I make it a point, especially after a big sale to contribute to the forum. (see the neat little "contribute to the forum" block on the home page) As a matter of fact....I'm delinquent. Money will be inbound soon Brian. (Christmas has priority) Thank you very much for this site, the store and the advice! Steve
  23. I'm thinking of starting the "Seth Fund". Any contributions will be accepted with the intent of getting Seth to Va. Come on America.....we can do this!!!
