  1. I've been through several thousand BBI 147's and they're great. Make sure you're using separate dies to seat and crimp like their website says and you shouldn't run into any problems. I tried to seat/crimp on the same die at first and cut the crap out of the coating.
  2. It's still snowing, and roads are getting treacherous. About to move this to the "What I Hate" forum...
  3. I can't remember when/if it's happened before, but there's enough snow on the ground to make everything appear white, but not enough to hinder travel...the best kind. Merry Christmas, everyone!
  4. Agree completely. Tripp Research has treated me well on several occasions.
  5. And he sure was helpful, and he was patient while we played phone tag for a while. He answered the questions I had about the XL650, and I decided to order it tonight. I can't wait! The 650 (with casefeeder) will be replacing the 550 that I've been using for a couple of years...I found a local guy to buy it.
  6. Alrighty...thanks for clearing that up for me, guys.
  7. I've been wondering this for a while...and this is purely hypothetical. If a Sharpshooter won 1st place in his div/class at a major match, and also scored well enough that he beat every Expert in his division, would he be bumped to Master? We assume that there are at least 10 people in these classifications.
  8. For what it's worth, my interpretation of the rule is that according to IDPA the reload is initiated by dropping the original magazine from the gun and/or drawing the fresh magazine from its pouch. As long as neither of those actions have taken place before the shooter is behind cover no penalty is assessed. Like others have said, freestyle is freestyle. If the shooter wants to shoot stronghand only with his support hand index finger up his nose he can- as long as he does it safely.
  9. Don't get me wrong...I don't hate Christmas, just the music. Saw them two years ago (I got the tickets as a Christmas gift from a student) and it was a pretty good show.
  10. I hate it, and I'm a high school band director. Guess what we've been rehearsing for the past several weeks?!?! Christmas music. I can't wait till next week is over and we can start working on real music...
  11. I shot it with my revolver the other day after not having pulled the trigger on live ammo in it in well over a year. SSR/SS- 68.18 (12), 18.10 (1) 20.01 (8) 8.10 (2) 21.97 (1) Dropped way too many points on stage 2 and fumbled every reload, but I had a good time. Looking forward to shooting it in SSP and ESP to see how I stack up in EX.
  12. Mine always hover around 3 seconds, which isn't fast at all. Ben Stoeger has video of him shooting them around 1.6 seconds, which is pretty fast. I'd say in the low 2's or around 2 would be pretty fast for a mere mortal. Here's Ben's sub-60 second classifier- BTW- did the person that said you're too slow show you that he can do it in 1.5-1.75 seconds?
  13. Definitely try just clipping them on your belt. When I shoot IDPA I don't have to worry about having to fit a bunch of mags on my belt, but when I've shot USPSA Single Stack I can't get the mags close enough together to keep from reaching around my back because I'm constrained by belt loops. I HAVE to clip them on the waistband of my pants to get them closer together, and I have had many a botched reload because the mags are too close to my body. Clip them to your belt only and you'll have enough room to grab them while staying within the IDPA rules.
  14. Do you clip them on your belt or the waistband of your pants?
  15. What I don't get is why anyone would WANT to use CR Speed mag pouches in IDPA. Don't get me wrong, they're great for leaving attached to a two-piece belt, but since our IDPA belts are required to go through belt loops (all but two, now) it seems like it'd be a pain to have to thread your belt through them every time you gear up. No thanks. I'll stick with my Ready Tactical pouches for IDPA.
  16. I agree with this. I had been stuck at SS since 2008. I finally decided to start getting serious within the past year or so and got bumped to EX in SSP and ESP at majors this past summer/fall. My turning point was when I realized that there's alot of time to be lost in points down. I didn't start "getting faster" (according to match results) until I started slowing down to make sure I had the right amount of sight picture for every shot. Of course this also meant that I had to have trigger control down pat as well.
  17. I'd like to know also...just bought another keg of S1K, and picked up my revolver for the first time in a while and had fun.
  18. I use Solo 1000, but you knew that already.
  19. Practice range is right out the back door. 5 ranges with IDPA and/or USPSA and/or 3-gun monthly matches within an hour from me. I have choices for every Saturday...and yes, I consider myself lucky.
  20. I'll second this. My Trojan only has about 3,000 rounds through it now and there's LOTS of bluing missing. I kinda like it, though...character. I've decided that I'm going to send it off for refinishing when I make Master in ESP with it.
  21. Does a match bump count as a classifier for that division?
  22. I liked the undercut trigger guard and the bluing on the Trojan. Add the fact that it's made in the USA and it was worth the premium to me. Love my Trojan!
