  1. I use Solo1000 and moly bullets (BBI) and have shot several low-light matches. I've noticed the smoke, but there has never been enough to keep me from seeing what I need to see. How are you holding your flashlight? I use a neck index and the sights and target are perfectly illuminated, and the light points wherever I look.
  2. This. I also have a set of Alumagrips that Dan at Southpaw Custom textured for me but they're about 1.7 ounces heavier than the VZ Aliens I have on my Trojan right now, and they put me WAY over weight for IDPA ESP. I plan to get some lighter grips for him to work his magic on, because I really like the feel.
  3. Looks great! I've got a similar project that's been ongoing for a few years now. Here's how it stands right now. It's based on a '78 CB750F.
  4. Nice job! Just imagine how fast she's gonna be in a few years...
  5. I dont know what part(s) of the sentence bothers me the most. A. He "tries" not to. As if it happens on occasion. B. He has been doing that for 10 years. C. Nobody has worried about his safety. Just sayin' I kinda laughed out loud when I read that. I laugh out loud that people are making such a big deal about it. The slide is locked back and the gun is obviously empty. This is no less safe than, say, tightening a shotgun choke.
  6. What I mean is that the DP magwell and basepads are as big as they possibly can be and still fit in the box. Yours still has room to spare...looks good, though. I'll admit the DP kit isn't the best looking combo, but I'm a form-follows-function kinda guy so it doesn't matter at all. Untrue. The DP ICE is smaller than the Techwell XT (I have both). R, I stand corrected. It seems like it is, in that case.
  7. I use Ready Tactical mag pouches. Simple and secure.
  8. What I mean is that the DP magwell and basepads are as big as they possibly can be and still fit in the box. Yours still has room to spare...looks good, though. I'll admit the DP kit isn't the best looking combo, but I'm a form-follows-function kinda guy so it doesn't matter at all.
  9. Get the DP ICE No gap and the DP basepads for your magazines and you'll be all set. I grin every time I put my gun in "the box" because it couldn't fit any better.
  10. I got a cover call on stage 11 also. I actually DID over-run a position and step past what they were considering "acceptable" cover. My gripe, though, is that the cover call came AFTER I had already stepped back into cover, forcing me to make an unnecessary second adjustment. I overheard the SO say something like "I didn't have time to call it BEFORE he fixed it" as I was unloading.
  11. It works ok, but I'm sure checkering would probably be better. I've got some aggressive grips, so I haven't felt the need to put grip tape on it.
  12. I use a CR Speed belt with the caddies on the front. It closes on the rear.
  13. I've been eating the Gatorade Bars when I feel hungry. I keep some soda for when my blood sugar gets low.
  14. Why? The original version was the "GI" short rod. I have .45's, .40's and 9mm with thousands of rounds each with the standard short guide rod without any problems. +1. I replaced the FLGR in my Trojan for a short guide rod in order to make weight and haven't had the first problem with it. I've only put about three thousand rounds through it since the conversion, but I can't see much difference one way or the other.
  15. I love my Trojan 9mm. It runs great with Tripp magazines. One thing to consider is the STI contingency program. Kimber doesn't offer anything of that nature. STI is great about supporting our sport.
  16. This leads me to believe that the video card is fine. What file format are you saving the videos in? I'm not very familiar with Windows MM, but I can imagine it offers different formats and resolutions in which to save your files. Try using a different one to see if the quality improves.
  17. This. I used to keep my support hand thumb on the side of the frame, but I realized I was applying pressure with it which lead to not-so-good hits. Once I got my support hand thumb off the side of the gun my hits improved dramatically.
  18. A couple of good ones in the Southeast are GA State and The Masters in Bham, AL. I look forward to attending the Carolina Cup and FL State this year for the first time because I've heard lots of great things about them.
  19. I agree with this. I toyed with the idea of SSR a while back and ended up buying a 686SSR and the whole kit. I shot it for a while, including a few majors- I have an SSR Division Champion plaque from one of those matches. I was the only SSR shooter there. I was the only SSR shooter at most of my local matches, too. After a while I decided to bring my SSP gun back out to play at a local match. I remember thinking "WOW this is EASY!" Don't have to reload nearly twice as often; no soot all over my hands after shooting a stage; no LONG, HEAVY double action trigger pull... Nowadays I have to either be in a particularly masochistic mood or know in advance that other folks are shooting SSR in order to bring my 686 out of the safe.
  20. ESP/EX 54.77 (17) 18.61 (7) 15.62 (8) 14.11 (1) 6.43 (1) I dropped too many points on stages 1 and 2.
  21. I like bushings because I shoot SS and IDPA.
  22. Mine is a recent build and it didn't come with the horse's head. I was kinda disappointed...kinda.
  23. It has happened with a few magazines. I loaded some at 1.150" (147gr BBI and 3.4gr Solo 1000) and chronoed them yesterday. Made 129 PF and ran great. I loaded up some more for accuracy testing and will report back with findings. Thanks for the replies, guys!
  24. Thanks for the responses, guys. I loaded up some dummies at 1.150" and they all cycled fine by hand and from slide-lock. I'm gonna chrono some loads tomorrow to see how I need to go from here.
  25. I've put a few thousand rounds through my 9mm Trojan and it's run great. The only problem (if you can call it that) is that sometimes when I load and make ready and chamber a round out of my barney mag it'll nose dive into the feedramp. No amount of racking will get it to budge, and I'll have to extract the mag, dump that round, and try again. There have been a couple of slide-lock reloads early on that this has happened, but not lately. I figured it was a break-in issue. The load I'm using is BBI 147's in mixed brass at 1.130", with 3.4gr Solo 1000. I developed this load for my Glock 34, and have kept using it because it has worked fine and makes PF in my Trojan. I should have a new press (Dillon 650- I've been loading on a 550) arriving any minute, and figure I might as well adjust seating depth now since I'll be setting the dies up anyway. Would a longer OAL fix this issue, or would it cause other problems? I'm pretty sure longer will fit in my Tripp magazines. Thanks in advance, guys!
