    X5 Mods

Some people lighten the frame to make for fast transitions. Of courrse the trigger can be cleaned up. Another mod is having the beavertail narrowed and reshaped allowing for a bit high grip. etc. If you go over to Grayguns website you can see a list of mods in their XLP package.
  2. It happens with both the cheapo new Sig mags and the brand new Mec Gars I got after buying the gun. It is actually worse with the mec gar mags than the Sig ones. Unfortunately one of the Sig mags doesn't drop free well, while the mec gars do. I'm wondering if I'm just seating the mag with too much force. I'm used to shooting 1911s with magwells , so my regular reload involves seating the mag pretty forcefully. Still I wouldn't think I would be able to hit it hard enough to jumble the rounds around in the mag. I run the MecGar mags in production loaded with 10 rounds and I seat the mags hard enough that on slide lock reloads it releases the slide. And I have never had the problem you describe. I have two of the current production checkmate mags and they have jammed pretty much every time I have tried to use them. What also confuses me is that you appear to be saying your MecGar mags have weaker springs than the checkmate mags. That is exactly opposite of what I have observed. The two checkmate mags I have when fully loaded exhibit much less pressure against the feed lips than my MecGars. So in short I am baffled.
  3. First off are you certain they are MecGar mags?? I ask because I have about 30 MecGar P226 and P228 Magazines and I have never once have I had that problem or seen any with springs that are too weak. The new checkmate made junk that SIG has been shipping with new guns lately. Well, they are truly garbage and what you describe is common with them.
  4. Still planning on making the magwells.

Just waiting on the machine shop.

  5. If the front part of the ledge were milled into the raised portion of the frame I think that would provide enough support for the magwell. It would be attached in the front via the ledge and in the rear it would be captured by the magwell spring (which costs about $5 I think) and the grips. The grips would have to be altered to clear the magwell though. You might ask Bruce Gray or Roy Nelson at Grayguns or Todd at customizedcreations about the feasibility of machining the frame to add a magwell. The side mounting rails on my magwell extend slightly farther forward than a factory magwell. I did this because the main purpose of my magwell is to provide physical support to help "control" recoil. Therefore there would be stress on the mounting rails that the factory magwell doesn't see. Even with only the front portion of the ledge milled into a standard frame I think it would still have adequate support for "normal" use. Although obviously it hasn't been tested this way and I wouldn't be able to make any guarantee that the mounting rails on the magwell might not eventually break from stress.
  6. arsoncop9, here are the photos I owe you. I have to be honest I just plain forgot. Here is a standard P226 frame. ...and here is the frame of an X5 that has the milled ledge for attaching the magwell.
  7. I plan on making a handful of parts to hopefully meet what demand there might be for the part and at least recoup a part of my investment. Based on what it looks like it is going to cost me per part. The price that I plan to sell them for will be only slightly above breakeven. You won't be able to make an individual part for what I plan to sell them for and I doubt there is enough of a market for me to even come close to recovering my costs. Unless you guys would be willing to chunk out about $300 per . Then I might breakeven on this project.
  8. Not looking to make much of a businees out of it as I doubt there is enough demand for this particular part. However given what I have invested in making prototypes etc. I have no intention of giving the CAD model away.
  9. Yes it is less than 140mm
  10. Put a dime on the frame under the primer plunger. And it will work fine.
  11. I'll have to double check when I get home to make sure they aren't 40S&W moonclips but I think I have an extra bag of 100 new moonclips in my parts cabinet.
  12. I'll try and take a couple pics to illustrate the difference. I'll see if I can get that done tomorrow.
  13. All the X5 frames have the properly milled ledge for sttachimg the magwells and I have seen some of the standard P226 frames that are milled for it. If your frame is milled to accept the magwell then I think you would still have to modify the grips to clear.
  14. Just a FYI if you use the NRA discount codes you can get about another 10 bucks off that rate. At least I did when I made my reservations. This close to the date though they might not give as much of a discount.
  15. Grayguns has a Titanium FPB kit that really works nice.
  16. Yea my experience with the checkmate stuff leads me to the conclusion it is only one step up from garbage.
  17. Good chance it is the checkmate magazine. MecGar mags are the best magazines for SIGs. IMO Most of the new SIG labeled mags are made by checkmate. They will be the ones labeled "Made in USA" The SIG mags labeled "Made in Itally" are made by MecGar.
  18. No, the action has been worked over by Grayguns and the hammer moves nice and smooth. I run the 17lb with 2 coils removed when using federal or winchester primers and have never had an issue. I have had a couple misfires with Wolf primers but I have had those misfire with stock guns so I don't think that is an indication of any gun problem.
  19. For my competition loads I run 14lb recoil and a 17lb mainspring
  20. I run 6.9gr of Autocomp behind 130gr FMJ at 1.135" in a Tanfaglio Gold Team and make 174PF. 6.6 behind 124s at 1.145 I would think would be pretty iffy on making major. You need to find a chrono to borrow.
  21. I am waiting for time on the CNC right now but should have a handfull of semi-production parts before too much longer.

    Mosquito

You can call APEX Tactical and talk to Scott Folk. He was doing the Moquito work when he was up at GrayGuns.
  23. I am not listed on the online squadding so I am pretty sure there are more than 30 signed up. I think the online squadding list is just a little behind.
  24. Is this the one you are talking about? Pelican Case For my 617 22LR I use this as my loading block.
