  1. I wish but I can only find 13 and 15 round mags?? which sadly are illegal in Aus. Hmm...I think I have one or two SIG 9mm 10 round magazines laying around that I will never use. Do you know if it would be legal for me to ship them to AUS? My x-5 is 357sig, and would require 40 cal in any case I would probably have to get an import permit etc but thankyou very much for the offer Pretty sure I have a 40/357 10 rounder laying around as well.

  3. FWIW, I have never seen the extended basepads for the P229 magazines available seperate. The P229 17 round mags are the P229 15 round flush fit mags with a +2 extention. The 15 round mag has a different follower than the 13 round mag. The SCT follower used in the 15 round mag can be purchased seperatly as seen here
  4. I have yet to see a promag magazine that was reliable. Can you get hold of a MecGar P226 magazine to try? I'll bet it solves the problem. I use MecGar P226 mags exclusively in my Allround.
  5. But when I I ran this by Amidon a few months ago his reply was that it would not be legal because the spine of the magazine did not lay flat in the gauge. Which is opposite of what he just told open17 in the post above.
  6. You got it. I agree that the gauge should only measure length. However, Amidon told me that the base pad must fit in the notch at the bottom of the gauge. Like I stated in an earlier post, I find it odd that the original gauge ruling/adoption was in 2000 and yet here we are in 2010 and they still have not managed to even mention the gauge in the rule book. In fact the only time the word gauge appears in the current rules is in 9.1.2 concerning a competitor touching a target. Here is another example for you. In the following pic you see an old SIG P226 "SWAT" magazine. If I were to add a base pad to this magazine tube to extend it to 170mm would this magazine be legal??
  7. If I had a such a magazine, I would ask that my magazine be measure as shown in appendix E1. And as J. Amidon told me Glock and Smith M&P 170mm mags are not legal since they will not conform to the gauge. Since the NROI ruling states "A magazine needs to conform to the length limit as well as the gauge to comply with our rules, also this means that the gauge extends to infinity, no curved magazines or other similarities. " Does anyone know if there were any open Glock shooters at the Nats??? It would be intersting to know if they put the mags in the gauge.
  8. And how do you make a Glock open mag fit the gauge??? With any of the commercially available basepads that extend a Glock mag to 170mm the mag will not lay flat against the gauge.
  9. The 2010 MCC finally gave me enough scores to my credit to get my initial revolver classification. I guess I'll have to actually practice so I can move up one of these days.
  10. But there is a posted NROI ruling. Yet in almost 10 years since the initial ruling they haven't managed to even mention the gauge in the rule book.
  11. I have mine set so light that the holster body never moves as long as I draw the gun straight. Even set that light the holster will still hold the gun in place upside down without the lock engaged.
  12. I really like mine. I have inserts for SIG X5,N-frame and L-frame. Never change out your inserts in a hurry!!! I did that before the MCC and didn't get the little aluminum wedge captured correctly and it caused the holster to lock up on me a couple times during the match. I didn't figure out what was wrong until I took a closer look at it the next morning.
  13. looks like it can be a non SV gun but it has to be a widebody configuration.
  14. The SS and production shooters to be checked could be picked at random from the entry list and that list would be provided to the chrono station.
  15. Agreed. I think the random check would be the most reasonable way to go. But if you go to the random magazine check I think a similar approach should be applied to the production and SS guys for the box and scale so that you aren't enforcing one equipment rule more than another and then I think we would be good to go. Just a thought...

    P220 mods

send an email to dryfire@grayguns.com It will bounce back a dryfire packet that might help.
  17. I firmly believe there is no valid reason to increase the workload on the ROs running the stages by having them try to keep track of round counts for open and limited. IMO setting a max OAL is the best way to go. However, I also believe that rules should be applied equally to all participants at a major match. If I am shooting production and when I get to the chrono station I am forced to submit to the USPSA's version of the TSA pat down by having my production gun weighed, measured and checked against a terrorist watch list. Then all shooters should have their equipment checked. In the case of limited and open, the magazine gauge should be used on all of the shooters magazines. IMO

    Holster for x5

I have used the CR Speed and the DAA for my X5 and I can say that I will NEVER use another piece of junk like the CR Speed again!! For the X5 IMO the DAA Race Master is the best available.
  19. Wow, you're the adventurous type...super! For a gun running Minor loads, 10.75oz is heavier than what I'd want if I was building a gun for a division where they allowed extensive changes. It's not a total boat anchor, but it's not "light". All along, I've said "relatively heavy"...meaning in relation to the ammo used, not to other guns. I'm not quite sure why that gets overlooked. Plenty of guns running hotter, Major ammo have slides that are significantly lighter, without problems. Are these all "full size" service pistols or does that include KelTec PF9 slides as well??? The slides I weighed were a variety from 5", 4.25" and 3". No, none were a Kel-Tec....Smith M&P, Glock and Kahr. Oh, you own more Sigs than I do, no doubt, but I have access to a big pile of them that are no longer being used regularly. Really? Are you sure about that weight? . . . . . Wait for it . . . . . . . . . . . . http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=105135&view=findpost&p=1199659 Your words: "My X-5 Allround slide is approx. 1.75oz lighter than a P226 slide." Benefit of the doubt, we'll call it being right 50% of the time. Now I guess you'll want to clarify whether it was a folded steel 226 slide or a CNC'd stainless slide, or something else? None of that changes the fact there are quite a few people running into problems with failures to extract/double feeds, often when they use lighter ammo. Many people seem to have cured the problem with more powerful ammo, some with lighter springs, some with both, and some wind up sending the gun back to Sig. It's not unique to Sigs, or X-5s, as M&Ps and Glocks have been known to have the same issues. Full size gun, relatively heavy slide (meaning capable of handling much hotter ammo) and light ammo can exaggerate an extractor problem. The fact that we don't hear the same problem with .40 X-5 owners is pretty telling. R, Yep I did say it was 1.75oz lighter that was compared to a 40 slide. at that point I hadn't compared it to my 9mm slides as it had not occured to me that there would be that much difference between 9 and 40 slides. it is only 1oz lighter than the three 9mm milled slides I have. I have never weighed a p226 folded slide. And don't think I am trying to say the x5 doesn't have issues. Plenty of them do. And some of the 40cal x5s have issues as well. If I were to go solely on guns that I have personally seen that have had issues, then I would be inclined to say more X5s in 40 have issues than X5s in 9. However as you have pointed out if you browse the forums it appears to be more of 9mm issue. Maybe I'm just lucky but I have run a CZ SP-01 and a p226 down to approx 105pf for club steel challenge matches in the past with no issues it just required playing with main and recoil springs. I have not tried to run the X5 down that low but I would not be surprised if i couldn't make it work.
  20. I love my Race Master. It holds my 610 nice and secure and has a nice smooth draw. I did have a minor issue with it at Memphis but I discovered the next morning that I caused the problem. I had switch from my SIG insert to the revolver insert in a hurry and I didn't put the little aluminum wedge in correctly. End result was I had a small piece of metal just floating around in the holster that would occasionally jam it up.
  21. If you are referring to the slide being lightened 2oz, that actually is a world of difference when speaking about slides. Take for example a standard profile 1911 slide. You can remove as much material as you want and you probably couldn't get much more than 2oz of weight difference out of it, however that difference makes a huge change in the guns function. I believe the last one I lightened I milled out pretty much every possible scrap of material within reason between the breechface and the rear of the slide (definitely the easiest place to remove significant amounts of material from a slide), leaving just enough material to support the front and rear of the firing pin; and I believe it removed just about 1oz, definitely not much more and IIRC actually less. What you and I consider a world of difference probably don't match up. I have 9mm guns with slides that range from 8.3oz to 13.7oz. All are factory guns. Yes, taking 1.75oz (roughly the difference from 226 to X-5, although it would depend on which 226 slide version you weighed) will make a difference, but it's only a third the difference between the heaviest and lightest slides I have here, and I'm sure there are some out there that are heavier than 13.7oz. I'm not sure what 1911 slides you've been working on, but I've got several that have more than 1oz taken out of them. Lots of Open and Limited guns have slides in the 9-10oz range. R, So I'll just throw a random number out for ya.... 10.75oz is that light or heavy for the slide on a full size 5" pistol????? Are these all "full size" service pistols or does that include KelTec PF9 slides as well??? BTW, I probably don't have as many SIGs as you Bart ( I only have 13) but I only see 1oz difference from a typical P226 9mm slide to that of a 9mm X5 AR slide. If you have one that is 1.75oz lighter would you be interested in selling it???
  22. Hmm you think the X5 slide is heavy? G-man?? It is lighter than a standard P226 slide. But I'm curious just how much do you think the X5 slide weighs??? How heavy is the slide on your guns??? For the record my GGI X5 AR has gone through several thousand rounds of 130gr 127-133PF loads loads and several thousand 125gr 130-135Pf loads without a single extraction problem to date.
  23. Well....I was going to have you build me an Open MAB in 9mm major after you got done with my SIG. Are you saying your not willing to give the MAB another chance????
  24. I would be perfectly happy to go the "tuned" mag route if that is what is required to make one work. I would really like to have a Witness based open gun but only in 9mm major. I have no interest in 38super.
