  1. I stand corrected, thanks. I learn something every time I read a thread on this forum.
  2. I believe the club can still send your classifier score to USPSA HQ, assuming that's not the stage you DQ'ed on. If I'm mistaken, a correction from someone more knowledgeable will magically appear very soon.
  3. The website is http://www.sanjuanrange.com/ Results and future info will be posted there eventually. I couldn't make it this year so I don't have any first-hand info.
  4. Absolutely no regrets - I have one on each of 2 550's, one set up for 38super and the other for 45acp. Occasionally cases will end up sideways at the top funnel and spill out rather than dropping thru feed tube or hang up just above the pusher, but it's easily corrected. I glued a parabolic blind spot mirror to the ceiling so I can see into the hopper, compensating for being vertically challenged. Take your time with setup and adjustment and you too can produce 450 rds/hr.
  5. Actually, we shoot on 1st and 3rd Saturday in ABQ. Also, new startup Wild West Practical Shooters planned this Sunday, 7/29 at the SASS Founders Ranch, where End of Trail just wrapped up. Ya, thought you shot the 3rd Sat's too, but there is a caveat on the site stating you are temporarily not shooting the 3rd Sat's match on the Area 2 site. Third Saturday operates as Caja del Rio. We did have to reschedule in May.
  6. The "IF CLEAR" puts the responsibility on the shooter rather than the SO/RO to assure the gun is clear before dropping the hammer and holstering.

  8. What's practice? Ammo is treated the same for all uses at the QC level. Oldest/range brass is held aside for lost brass events.
  9. On today's Shooting Gallery episode on getting started in IDPA, Walt Rauch said the Bill Drill was created by Bill Wilson. Apparently he forgot about Bill Jordan!
  10. Squad 7 rocked! They hauled off a truck load of wood. Great shooting with you guys and getting to "know" the real people behind the avatar's Big thanks to the match staff and everyone that worked so hard to make this match a success. We were in shooting Nivarna, air conditioning, great sound system, awards AND prize table going on at the same time. Wowee! See you next year. David C SOOOO who ONE! Results are already available on the Area 2 website. Carolyn is the best!!
  11. Hoppes #9 to clean (bore only with Bore Snake), otherwise clean paper towel; Z-Max to lube, Breakfree if more needed during the match day, TW25B if hot weather.
  12. Bring it with you to A2. A pilgrimage to the Dillon facility adjacent to Scottsdale Airport is worth it during one of half-days you're not shooting. A place where you can see and touch everything you see in the Blue Press!
  13. Just saw a headline about some new cognitive research on Fox News that seems relevant to this forum.... http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,362266,00.html
  14. We first met in the lunch line at the 2000 USPSA Nationals at East Huntingdon (site of Area 8 this past weekend). Good Italian sausage sandwiches, BTW. Then at the first Bend, OR nationals Tom saw me first and came over to say hello. Registration even gave me his scoresheets. My sister was there as a spectator, so I introduced her to the other brother she didn't know she had. Hope to meet again soon, now that my son is a merchandising manager for the company that represents Safariland. Thomas R. Campbell
  15. We shot a similar type start on a stage at Dust Devil (Tucson) a couple years back. Matching paper/steel was shoot, non-matching was scored as no-shoot. I would suggest the clipboard RO collect the card when the shooter clears the start position and can safely do so, and place it on the clipboard so it is available during scoring.
  16. The paper stage is eerily similar to an ICORE classifier stage. The ICORE version has 5 targets and a mandatory reload between boxes. http://www.icore.org/classifiers/CS-031.pdf
  17. Timely that this thread should resurface. On the way home from a practice/prospective shooter demo yesterday I was reminded of something I noticed about the learning process for a physical skill. The learning process has three phases: 1. COARSE. You need to use an unfamiliar tool, think of driving, flying, or shooting at the very beginning. It requires conscious thought and effort to perform the basic functions. With time and practice, you advance to: 2. SMOOTH. The fundamental mechanics of operation have moved to the subconscious. The effort now is in refining the way we use the equipment, eliminating the roughness and extra effort by anticipating for what's coming next and making small adjustments to avoid loss of control. With more time and practice, you advance to: 3. PRECISE. The subconscious is now doing the bulk of the work, keeping the car on the road, the gun on target. The effort now is in narrowing the band of acceptable performance. In flying it was maintaining heading within 1 degree instead of 5 or 10, altitude within 50 feet instead of 100 or 200. In shooting, picking the specific spot on the target instead of the entire target. It takes continuing effort to maintain whatever degree of precision you have achieved, and more if you aspire to something greater. This is something I noticed during the years I was flight training, going from student to private pilot to instrument rating. It was things like relaxing the white knuckle grip on the control wheel so I could feel the feedback the aircraft was providing and use the information to make small corrections to stay on my desired track. ETA: Consider this a COARSE phase attempt at putting philosophical thoughts in writing.
  18. Winchester is best 3 of 4 runs on the clock, alternating left and right arrays for the 15 stages, one day. Cash payback for division/class. Handgunner is J-ladder, man vs. man, best 2 of 3 runs - you may shoot up to 5 runs/stage on a 17-32 man squad, over 3 days. Shooters squadded by division/class. Points awarded for winning a run. Prize table by division/class. Side shoots Wednesday for shotgun, rifle, .22 rifle and .22 pistol. Also cowboy rifle and shotgun if you're so inclined. Divisions are Stock & Open Semiauto, Stock & Open Double Action Revolver, and Single Action Revolver. Six targets plus stop plate for semiauto, 4 targets plus stop plate for revolvers.
  19. Be aware that Simple Green is corrosive to aluminum with extended exposure. We used to use it wash aircraft, but don't any more! You can wash and rinse thoroughly, but leave no traces behind.
  20. USPSA site now updated to remove 06-11. One less inconsistency in the universe. Thanks, Bill.
  21. Just updated my copy of EZWin Score from 3.04 to 3.05 and saw that CM06-11 (Where's the Ammo) had been removed from the dropdown menu of classifier stages. It still appears as a valid classifier on the USPSA website. What's the story?
  22. Ryan Flynn is the gunsmith for IonBond in Greensboro, NC. 336-665-0005 They did a very nice job on my Eagle 6.0 open gun, including magwell, hammer, barrel, slide, and frame.
  23. Not sure what August event you are referring to. The Albuquerque club's web site is http://www.rgpsc.com/
  24. Gotcha...I usually hear about them one way or the other...no worries. I noticed you didn't show up at Los Alamos yesterday....I guess my threat to put 9mm Major in your ammo bag (from the girls pants thread) worked! Naah, couldn't get the chick pants over the longjohns.
  25. Rocket, Glad you could be there. Certainly better to discover the problem in a practice session. G-Man, this was an extra - normally gets setup by Pat as we are departing the range after the 1st Sat. match. Best to check with him before you go.
