  1. That is correct. You still need to "activate" it but that's it. Failure to use whatever prop activates it would be an FTE. ...and miss penalties, even if disappearing, right? See 9.9.3..... Well you don't get the points for something you did not hit, but you don't get penalty points. It's called a NPM or no penalty Mike/Miss. That's not how I understood it when taking RO classes. Relevant rules: So -- activate the disappearing target and it's your choice to shoot at it or not. No penalties for FTE or misses apply. (We use NPM on the scoresheet.) Don't activate the target -- penalties apply for FTE and Misses (real -10 penalties for each missing hit...) There once was a rifle stage with a real zig-zag pattern between parallel strands of caution tape. you had to engage targets on both sides of the chute. The chute culminated in a wall that hid a dual target bobbler that was activated by knocking down the port cover in the wall. It was a long run --- maybe 50 yards total, but a relatively short stage otherwise ~ 30 rounds. I shot a couple of targets that were only visible from the start position, ran about five yards to the first corner, from which I could see everything else, including slivers of the D-zone of both bobbler targets, hosed everything else from there; then ran up to the wall off the clock and activated the movers.... Upshot -- no penalties and a smoking time. Downside -- being referred to as a gamer the rest of the day..... People get really jealous when you apply a solution they wished they had come up with. Game on!
  2. I don't know of anything to combine multiple matches in EzWin. The classification updates only need to be done when USPSA posts the classification update once a month, around the 15th. It only works when there is an active match file with a minimum of one stage and one competitor, even if only updating the Master file. I try to keep our club master file up to date, so latest classifications are available during match registration. For a major match like the High Desert Classic, I also update the match file, since registration is open for several months.
  3. Final All is percentage of highest hit factor for any division to calculate percentage/stage points, while By Division is established by HHF within division. Your shooter may be in Production as percentage of Open shooter in overall, but different result when compared only to top Production shooter in By Division result, for example.
  4. Anniversary coming up and considering this as a gift for an avid reader. Experiences/Thoughts/Opinions/Recommendations welcomed.
  5. Check out Burris Speed Bead. It is only sold as mount plus sight, but a Docter is the same base pattern, and I had one (to match pistol and rifle). Don't know about JPoint. It seemed I would be drilling into the barrel for the Arredondo rib mount.
  6. G-Man Bart. A capable shooter and a thinker/theoretician that has a knack for understanding and explaining the finer points of what is needed to improve your game.
  7. http://www.drazymetalworks.com/ Tom Drazy. Likely to be special order type of item.

    simple green

Warning: Simple Green is corrosive to aluminum - discovered as a result of washing airplanes. Can be used if rinsed off completely.
  9. Scheduled day for Rio Grande Practical Shooters (www.rgpsc.com). Website is being rebuilt, link to club forums not operational right now. I plan to be there - same location as High Desert Classic stages 1-3, and 6.
  10. Actually, it makes a lot of sense. I think of my college time in Engineering as "fine tuning" my BS filter. Profs liked to inflate exam questions with lots of important sounding factoids, 90% of which were irrelevant to solving the problem. Same with shooting - discover what's needed to get results (y) and tune out x.

    I can't say

This is like a political campaign...lots of words, NO information.

  13. And did you notice how much better the airplane performed without the extra weight of the instructor? It was very evident when I soloed a Cessna 152 way back in 1986!
  14. I believe Michael Bane had him him on an episode filmed at Gunsite within the last year or two. DownrangeTV.com
  15. great..thanks for the info. is registration out at the range?? Yes. Signs to direct you to west bldg on the PPC range, just before berms for stages 1-6
  16. Before I got past the title I was picturing Tommy Lee Jones arriving in lights-out helicopter to recruit Bart for Men in Black. ("It could happen!" - Judy Tenuta) Nice pics. They're very jealous territorial creatures.
  17. Match is now full Additional entries received will be placed on a Wait List and fees will be held until the earlier of match completion or you decline your position in the wait list. I'm at the Pueblo, CO Steel Challenge match, so wait list notification will not go out until Sunday afternoon.
  18. Currently four GM's in each of Open, Limited, and Production, so at least those divisions should qualify, but ultimately it's up to the folks at USPSA HQ.
  19. Four weeks out and we have 130 competitors registered as of 5/9/2009 for the 150 slots. Match fee goes up to $125 for entries postmarked after Friday, May 15. Self-squadding via USPSA closes May 26.
  20. HMMM, OK there then, so is that information that I need to be concerned with? Ballistic coefficient and sectional density are inputs to ballistic calculations to determine flight path for a bullet, along with bullet weight, barrel twist rate, sight offset, and muzzle velocity.
  21. Especially since it was only a mile from my home You walking around with your Open gun ready to go? Pardon me if I choose to not answer.....
  22. Especially since it was only a mile from my home
  23. Equivalent weight and similar profile for other published jacketed bullets can serve as a starting point. Load a few at one setting and chronograph. Start at minimum and work up carefully to arrive at a load that functions safely and makes your desired power factor. Err on the side of caution and you should be OK.
