  6. if these bullets were just water damaged, why not just reload the cases. the primers won't fire when wet, but when they dry the should be fine. try a few. what's it going to hurt? of course, i'd use these rounds for practice only. lynn
  7. i heard kimber make sti and svi frames.
  8. roofers in memphis, tn have had the same experience of finding bullets on roof tops down in the ghetto. lynn
  9. for those that don' t know what fire lapping is: About Fire Lapping Barrels You roll bullets, lead or jacketed, between two hard plates (steel usually) to embed valve grinding compound grit (generic term for lapping compounds you may be familiar with) into the bullets. Then generally with a reduced load, shoot these gritty bullets through the barrel. It takes the tops off the surface finish inside the barrel going around the inside, and then leaves a finish going WITH the travel of the bullet. It also takes off burrs and sharp edges from the rifling. And since the grit in the bullets breaks down as it travels down the barrel, the gritty bullets cut less and less as they travel toward the muzzle. Thus you get something of a "choked" bore & groove, and this in itself is a plus to accuracy. Barrels that get progressively tighter toward the muzzle are usually quite accurate. complete article here: http://www.bellmtcs.com/FAQ/Fire_Lapping.htm
  10. phil, this isn't a big deal really. state, section, and area championships can still recognize these catagories if the match directors want to do so. right? national and world championships will not recognize leo and military. lynn
  11. Skywalker67, i only missed it by 2 days.
  12. outer boxes, outer plates on the respective sides. stop plate center. i believe.
  13. i'm sure glad when the electronic timers and chorongraphs came out there wasn't this much debate over the technology. i can remember scoring matches with pen, paper and calculator. then luckly lotus 123 spreadsheets came about. then MSS, then Ezwin score. Now the palm is tring to make the job of the ROs and stats people easier. if the palm program was not worth doing, then peter cunningham and lloyd berggren would not have invested time and money to develope the program in the first place. i bought the palms and use the program to score all of our matches at our club (memphis sport shooting association). this program has made my life a lot easier since i do all the scoring. my club is like everyone else's club, there are only several worker bees and a bunch of shooters that only come out to play. now, using the palm as the match scoring device, i get people indirectly involved with the scoring and helping with match. i spead 99% of the stats workload to the squads (we have a paper back up, btw). this saves me an hour or two of score input into Ezwinscore, and worring with incomplete scoresheets and unreadable hand writting. the plam scoring system steps in and takes the place, almost, of an RO or stats officer where man power is lacking. world shoots or national championships where there are plenty of volunteers to work, you don't have a problem. hell, enough people with shovels can move a mountain. getting workers for state or area championships is becoming harder and harder to find. freeing up workers for other duties is what the palm was designed to do. my buddies vince and peter may not agree on the benifits of the palm. however, there is a lot of interest in the U.S. and other countries, that want to use the palm in an official capacity with the MSS and Ezwinscore programs. it there is enough shooters wanting to us the palm system, the IPSC & USPSA powers that be, should make allowances with the rules. the palm is a tool, just like the electronic timer and should be used to help our sport. lynn

  18. from peter cunningham I have twice logged in (Brian Enos confirmed that was OK) and twice been rejected from being able to add comment to this topic thus "Sorry, you do not have permission to reply to that topic" and that I am "Unauthorised to respond" etc.I have asked Lynn Jones to pass it on. This might be a technical problem because the same problem happens on all threads. Well! - Palm Scoring is a reality, and strangely it really does work! I say that because misinformation clouds fact. If anybody wants to have a peek at it and download a trial version, then go to: www.autoscoringsystems.com and sniff around, but don't be in a hurry - later next week the FINAL program will be available there. I strongly suggest going to the end and read the two links to USER COMMENTS, where on the Australian IPSC website, I saved the topic so that other shooters could see what other shooters think. YES - Palm scoring was successfully used in two major matches last year - The Area 7 championship and the Infinity Open. It is commonly used here and in Papua New Guinea and New Zealand. NO - It is not available on other than the Palm OS - one day it might be but the costs involved are simply overwhelming. FAR easier to keep your good PDA for work (whatever) and go buy an old Palm 3xe for about $65 and keep it in your range bag. YES - It is true that shooters become more involved in any match when they use their palms to manage their scores. It's really a thrill to see INSTANTLY who is where. Just ask the RO with a Palm to beam your scores, or your squads scores (takes about three seconds) and progressively collect your scores and run your own mini match where instant results are a reality. Any PIN secured scores provide yet another backup of match data, so that if something dies it's easy to fix. Perhaps one day my original dream will be realised - where all practical shooters everywhere can use it for $5 per annum via an annual membership levy, instead of a few paying 'a lot'. Luckily, desite the initial cost, there has been very good response and NO complaints, but that has been the slow and most costly way to introduce it. ANYWAY - I don't want to turn this into an advertisement - suffice to say - TRY IT. If you don't have a palm - FEAR NOT - just download the manual "5 - SCREENS.zip" and read it. If you want to see how Match Magic handles the output files on your PC, just download a trial match and go play. GOTTAGO. Peter Cunningham BE HAPPY and I part with words from one more capable than I: "...So long as the people do not care to exercise their freedom, those who wish to tyrranize will do so; For tyrants are active and ardent, and will devote themselves in the name of any number of gods, religious and otherwise, to put shackles upon sleeping men." -- Voltarine de Cleyre." | | | |
