  1. I love shooting golf balls! Steel IS a REBEL! "just because he doesn't do what everybody tells him" Isn't that how that song goes?

Keep it up guys! Those are some great pics! I'm a geography nut, and find this stuff fascinating. Thanks! And thanks for your service!
  3. I know a guy like this who is also a back stabber! He used to be a real good guy, still spineless, but at least not lazy. Now he is both and I can't stand it. He was the best man at my wedding. Now, I rarely talk to him other than when completely necesary. If I do not like you you will know because I will not talk to you. (And ask anyone I know, I can TALK) That way, I don't ahve to deal with your bullsh*&!
  4. I live in SoCal, Drivers here are erratic, AND fast! These two do not go together!
  5. My guns are in the shop and all I have to dryfire with is an old Smith Revo with target sights. Do you think It would be okay to dryfire with it and practice with it until my pistols get back? I kind of wanted to use it to strengthen my weak hand trigger and sight picture. When looking down the sights, the sight picture is really similar. Whaddya think? Jimmy
  6. The avatar is an avatard thing. I can tell you though that I did use fast food as a diet to help me lose weight. When I was running late and didn't pack a lunch, I bought Wendy's chili and ate only that all day. Just one large one, no cheese or onions. I just would have a couple of spoonfulls to break the hunger pangs and then an Ensure at the regular meal time. That way I still had energy to exercise and work, but was able to lose weight. Also water in large amount when dieting. Seems to help for some reason. Also, I don't order the thumbs in my chili either! Docs advice was number one, then a picture of me with my shirt off and seeing my belly hanging over my beltline! ABOMINATION! I was aghast! Then there was the wife's comment on how I looked "pretty good" with the weight. (Somehow I think she was telling a BIG white lie) Lower stamina, there were just so many things that were pointing in that direction, well I had to do something. When you have heart issues at 34, and you are overweight at 38, then you start to feel(I did anyway) kind of lame. Like what can I change? It started out slow and seems to be gaining momentum. We'll see where it goes from here.
  7. do i have to bring up the Cleveland Indians? Never heard o' them That is why I come to this place!
  8. I have shot the same style of pistol for years and it takes a shift to reach the mag release. Masters and A shooters have said that I need to get an extension so that the shift isn't necessary. I choose not to as I don't feel at this point that it slows me down and it forces me to remove my finger to reload. ( I have an old habit from bird hunting and rabbit hunting that if you are not aiming you keep it out but this just adds a little insurance) I think you should try it. Practice for a week dryfire and livefire and see what you think. Afterall how many hours would it take to switch back? You might find that you do not like it and it isn't something you have to send out to a smith to reverse. Just my .02 Jimmy

    Which one?

Bear in Alaska Womens Volleyball( I have a thing for V-Ball players, dated two, oh the mam, um, memories!) Tri tip or Brisket? Dry rub or marinade?
  10. Ben, Growing up in the desert and doing my service in the tropics, I agree with Xre on the letting you continue angle. You often feel better when you are dangerously close to dying. Sounds dramatic, but is true. Exercising will make your body more efficient at cooling itself. When I am in shape and in that hot muggy type of environment, (The building our shop is in has giant swamp coolers that bring the temp down to 100 and the humidity up to 80-90%, extruders run at 400 deg. at the die end, hot AND humid) I sweat like crazy. Too much water can cramp you up, too litle can kill you, there is a fine line. The trick with the white towell is a really good one. I use that when I mow the lawn and weed. It also keeps the sun off your neck and cools you where your blood is flowing. If you have short hair I find that putting it on your head really cools you off as you have lots of blood vessels in your scalp. Hope you feel better and remember this also, for a while you will be more suseptible to this sort of heat injury again. Remember the way you began to feel when you got sick and the next time(hopefully there wont be) just stop, get that towell and cool your body at the neck and wrists. Sometimes strength is knowing when to stop so that you can compete on your best level another day. JZ
  11. Heck yeah we'd be delighted! PM me and let me know what it'll run me. She was asking again this morning and I would like to get her out soon. I have a whole slew of mags and will be getting her a bipod too. thanks, Jimmy
  12. I'm new this year but I really like the BladeTech mag pouches and holster that I got recently. Pretty solid so far and simple to put on my CR Speed belt. They took a week to get here, but got what I ordered. JZ
  13. Awsome! Hey, where's the jealosy icon?
  14. Here in the Coachella Valley that has been and will be the drink of choice for most guys my age. It used to be called Chabelas. It was Clamato, lime, Tapatio, or Cholula hot sauce and Pacifico. While I do not drink now I really liked them with a frosted mug salted. We use to have a shot of Reposado with each. Haven't had the commercial stuff. Usually things like that do not translate well to premade. The preservatives or the processing doesn't translate the flavors. If you like campechana cocktails or ceviche, it is really good. If you do not, then it isn't. We also used to go hang out at the Latino techno bar on Friday and Saturday nights. Bummer is when you are from a large Latino family. (mom's from Monterrey Mexico) The hot chick whose nomber you got might just turn out to be your cousin! But then I like all that Mexican stuff. When you grow up with it it tastes like home.
  15. It would be interesting for someone from a sanctioning body to make a policy inquiry. I suspect the response would be that they tailor their programming for commercial value. Also, I think if they found themselves competing with VS or Outdoor Channel for advertising dollars, they'd put shooting and hunting shows on immediately. That is the ticket, use the almighty dollar as leverage.
  16. That is a great idea! I think that if the average X-Games watcher that is into extreme sports saw what this sport looks like and the skills of the upper class shooters live and up close,(Especially with multiple camera angles and downrange cameras catching the action at the targets as they are being perforated by the rounds or knocked down) with the clock running in the corner of the screen, they would not only get hooked, but this sport would EXPLODE! This just screams for good camera work and good commentary from great shooters. I do not see how it could hurt the sport. And, to add to that, if a competitor were to DQ during the match it would show that we are indeed safety minded at all times! Man I like that idea! I have a friend in the movie business that I will shoot this over to and see what he says.

    Being sick

Man oh man, can I relate. Here we live in an area that has summer temps for five to six months a year. Usually, the flu takes no notice as to what the temps are and ruins many fine days to BBQ. Heck we BBQ year round. What I hate about your situation is that having a fever on a hot day is just the worst! You can't seem to get comfortable when trying to sleep because you are hot inside and out. Just thinking about that makes me feel crappy! I hope you feel better and recover quckly. Drink lots of fluids and try to sleep as much as you can. JZ
  18. Shooter, It's 25 miles three times a week. The ride is uphill one way and down, up and up the other because I ride a circuit instead of just up and back. I can do it now in one hour and forty minutes. I tried a new circuit last night and will see what that gets me as far as miles. I think I will be near or at 30. I jump rope as a circuit training exercise. I do 120 straight jumps, do 30 push-ups, 80 sit ups, 16 curls each arm, 20 dips from a chair to the free weight bench, and I repeat. I try and do this all nights that I do not ride. If I am lucky, it will be four, but most weeks it has been three. When I have alot of energy and good sleep I can sometimes get eight circuits. Otherwise I get five or six. On the nights that I am sore in my arms I will work shoulders and then punch my heavy bag or I have started egg-beater in the pool hands above head, six sets of two minutes. (used to play H20 Polo in H.S.) That and Ins and Outs with pushups in-between to mix it up. Wish I had access to a 25 to 50 yd pool. I remember some workouts that our coach would do to get us ready for the season, and let me tell you you were IN SHAPE! Really not that intense yet. I'm working on keeping my heart rate up so that when I ride I can ride hard for most of the ride. when I started in January, i couldn't ride hard for very long. if I went for two miles hard I would be panting hard and feeling it. Now I can at least push for a good 18 miles out of 25, and the rest I can hit hard. Man I am rambling and have to get to bed. JZ
  19. Went to a friends last Friday to shoot the bull and show him a pistol. I mention that I needed to get a new rear sight for my daughter's 10/22 and he says that he has one. Score! So I pocket it and get going home that evening. I look in those pants last Saturday, and NO SIGHT! I have turned over the laundry room, my bedroom, my truck, my rangebag, and still, NO SIGHT! Grumble, grumble, grumble, underbreath expletive, grumble. If only I had a photographic memory like my eight year old! I can ask her where I put something last week, and if she was there, she can tell me where exactly. JZ
  20. Thanks you guys. It really means alot to hear good, sane advice. I will heed and keep it up. Will have to research the bodyfat thing. I didn't know you could do that. Last time I remember anyone going in for bodyfat check, they were immersed in a tank of water. I guess technology improves lots of things!
  21. Just got in from riding, read that,
  22. So I went to see Irv on Monday. Took both pistols, and thought that I would see if he could tighten the front sight on my competition gun while I was there. Talked myself into getting both pistols dovetailed for a front sight, magwells, etc., etc. Left and was halfway home when I realized BOTH GUNS ARE IN JAIL! Now I have no clue what I will do for a gun to play with. I guess I will be shooting revo for a while after I load up some .38. Or, I could use some time to buy some bullets, set up another press for rifle and load some .308. That sounds like work, but the wife aint gonna do it Or the more probable answer, put the rear sight in my girls 10/22 and buy a brick of ammo, take her out and teach her how. I used to be a pretty good rifle shooter. Yeah, that's the one. Get her hooked, afterall, she has been begging for the last few months.
  23. I thought I would update this thread so that those of you who are trying to lose do not get discouraged. Well I got down to 207 and really began hitting the weights harder and jumping rope. What that got me was improved stamina and strength, but also an extra 5 lbs! Is my waist getting smaller? Yeah. Is my stomach getting flatter? Yeah, BUT, how do I quantify what I'm doing at this point? What is a good measure of progress if the scale cannot tell me what I'm acheiving? I guess I'll figure it out, but I will admit that I am a bit dismayed at this point. I've always been a numbers guy. I like to be able to figure it out mathematically and even timeline it to guess what day I will reach any specific milestone so that I can see if I am behind, ahead, or right on schedule. Drives my wife crazy, kids look at me like I'm cukoo Well here's one more thing that I will have to learn not to let get to me. Just go out and do my thing and not let the scale run my life..... yeah, right.
  24. JK, no I was with the 65th Eng Bn of the 25th Light Infantry Div, Schofeild HI. I was tall and skinny and the first day I got to my permenant duty they saw my frame and said "Make him a gunner, it'll put some weight on him." Well it didn't much but boy could I carry alot of crap after a couple of years humping the Kuhukus. We never really used an a-gunner in our unit. I qualified with a different guy every time. I used to hit that 800m target set every time! I was better with the 60 than with the A2. Expert vs Marksman. Worked with the Marines out of Kaneohe Bay on some maneuvers on Molokai. Gained alot of respect for those guys. I was always impressed with how much training the Marines put into their people. They worked harder than we did, even though the guys I worked with were far from lazy, the Marines just WORKED. Sorry for the thread drift.
