I have hard chromed every Open Gun by Metaloy. He has been doing this for many years. All my guns look like new and don't jam. We use these pistols in every type of weather.. I felt it was the best finish for my guns.

I know a GM who shoots Matt Cheely's Open Guns. He has no problems with the pistols. All my Open Guns were made by great gunsmiths. They all run and don't jam.

I will say one thing for Gunsmiths who make Open Guns and Limited Guns. They are the best people to speak with. Don't get me wrong do your history for gunsmiths. I have had terrible gunsmiths but now I have some of the best. It may cost more but what would you rather have. A gun at a match which works or a gun that jams at the match. I had a friend who wanted a high cap 45. Every time he went to a match it jammed.He finally gave up and does not compete anymore.The old saying you get what you pay for still true.

Adrian Cobb,Mag Blueprinting tuned my 9mm 170mm . It was unbelievable how great the work was. I will be sending him at least 5 more next year.

Case Pro 100 , best for reloading anything.

I am using the Peltor 6s and after a year I buy a new one. There are better ones but they all wear out. So I figured they are not really expensive so why worry about them. They will stop working when you are at a match. I have had the ear protection which cost over $300.00 and they broke. So make a choice which is best for you.

The Colt 1911 45 is the best single stack you will buy. I own three and would not sell any of them. Colts 1911 have very hard steel. One gunsmith told me the slide is unbelievable hard. I have one which was made 1917 and it shoots everything. Good Luck. You will never regret buying that pistol.

I have had Limcat,, Ghost and Safariland 013. Now using Double Allfa holster and mag pouches. Have not dropped a mag or a pistol .yet. May check the new Safariland 014 soon.

I shot the Area 7 Match also. Didn't get there until 900 pm the prior day. No time to take a look at the stages. I lost 60 points on one stage because I never looked behind a wall. One GM shooter I noticed during the day was just seen standing there at each stage for quite awhile. He was the first in his class. Don't mistake the information he is at the top of his game. I am not. I shoot about 10,000 rounds a year and I am told its not enough.

38 Super ,124 gr Montana Gold Hollow Point bullet,7..6 gr Autocomp, Chrono 1420 at Area 7 Match. Could use a little less powder. Like 314 Shane.

I have both 38 Supers and 9mm Major. All my used brass go through the CasePro 100. My new Gans Open 9mm has not jammed yet. Also my 38 Super reloads never jam.

Sig Sauer Academy did a great match . Very profession personnel were there.All the range officers were wonderful and very polite. I would like to thank everyone who worked that match. Also the CEO of Sig Sauer and his employees. It takes a lot to make a match like the Area 7 .I hope they will do it again next year. It is unbelievable how many shooters were there.

I have been using Metaloy for many years. All my Open guns are hard chromed by Chris of Metaloy. This hard chroming has never affected the performance of the pistols. But I never hard chrome the extractor. I usually just chrome the barrel,slide and frame.

We have spoke about the caliber for many days. Everyone is right. So I will give you my opinion . It is the caliber ,yes,but it is really the gunsmith. I have both 38 Super Open guns and 9mm Major. All of them do not jam. Find a good gunsmith. There are many I will not mention who they are. If you check this web you will find some great gunsmiths.Good Luck.

Go to any match you want to shoot.In the NY state. Only ten round mags are legal. At this time. We have long memories in this state.

Metaloy has been chroming my open guns for 15 years. No problem ever. They always look new.I have seen other chrome and it looks like gray paint. My guns all look like stainless steel. But not flashly.

No Jams all last year.Bedell,Gans ,Innovative Custom Guns ( Jim ,EGW Gunsmith). Also a new Gans Open Gun 9mm,

I have five Caspian mag pouches. However they are basketweave.

I have one and it runs. I also have the parts for the next open gun.

If you send it back to STIit will not be there for months. A few weeks yes.

I shot 20 matches this year with a 38 Super. Each of my open guns were made by knowing gunsmiths. Not one jam of any open pistol.I also put all the open guns with Cheely Scope Mounts. I like them very much. I hate the price of the brass and it usually lays on the ground after the match. I just pay for new brass every year and that is the price for this sport. I found many years ago about open guns. I have said before I send my gunsmiths Turkeys every Christmas day.
