  1. I talked to Taran on the phone for a while yesterday. Sounds like he's got some new ideas and parts that are going into the current guns as opposed to a three year old gun. Might look at upgrading. I've been keeping an eye on the other shooters guns at matches and the TTI ones seem to be doing very well.
  2. Thanks Mike, Great shooting by the way. As for humor, it seems someone always gets their feelings hurt and this time was no different. I apologize to anyone that was offended by my humor, it was not meant to hurt or degrade, but to make people smile. I guess next year Scott will do all the talking and I'll just stand there with my mouth shut, which is not easy for me. Doug Yeah, you hurt my feelings during the awards ceremony. I was deeply offended. Oh wait, I wasn't there. Well I'm sure you offended me at some other point. Do you really think Scott is less likely to offend people?
  3. I'm shipping my new Benelli down to Taran this week. Can't wait to get it back and play.
  4. To make it a bit easier for our returning competitors. The only rule changes are 1.7.4.1 and 2.5.3.3. I'm shouldn't say they are both specifically directed at Jessie Tischauser...but they are.
  5. Probably should have started this a few months ago, but better late than never. The 2013 Crimson Trace Midnight 3 Gun Invitational will be held in Bend, OR at the Central Oregon Shooting Sports Association (COSSA). The match dates are August 14-15, 2013 for the staff and 16-17 for the main match. August 18 will be awards at noon at Mt. Bachelor Village. Information about the match can be found on our website, M3GI.com. Stages, Rules, Schedule and additional information can be found there. The match will be all Open Division, but as you can see from the stages, the shotgun will not require you to reload so Tactical guys won't be at a disadvantage. We have some longer shots but they will be done with Stage guns. Longest shots in the match with your guns will be 50 yards. If you shot the match last year or have been wondering where your invite to this year is, please message me with your email address as soon as possible. Apparently some of the invite emails are getting hung up in spam filters or just disappearing. There is still a few spots but I expect the match will be full in the next day or so.
  6. I think some of what Nik was getting at was there is no way to know the PF of that specific round. When I chrono I never have exactly the same MV round to round. They average three or more and that's my PF. Maybe you hit it with a slow one. The other element it doesn't address is bullet weight for your round versus the Calibration gun. Someone shooting a 95 grain bullet at 125 is going to have a different effect on steel than someone with a 147. Steel is not perfect but I'd rather shoot the game with it there than not. And I haven't seen/heard of a better and/or more efficient way to use it yet.
  7. I've been an LE Firearms Instructor for over 10 years. No one in my neck of the woods has even suggested slide mounted optics (or any optics period) on a duty gun. In fact, they're dead set against anything other than standard night sights on a duty pistol because of a real or perceived chance of sight/component failure and the fact that they are more fragile than iron sights. The S&W Core pistol is a "gimmick" pistol in the eyes of my fellow instructors so please excuse me if I don't mark your words because I know better...from 1st hand experience. No disrespect intended. Just pistols? My agency (300 officers) is in the midst of mounting optics on rifles after extensive testing showed they were much faster and more accurate under stress. Pistols might be different, but that would be pretty counterintuitive. My experience with firearms instructors is that many of them are crotchety old guys that are VERY resistant to change. Rifles are a completely different story. They don't ride your hip and every optic I've ever seen mounted on a patrol rifle is a larger and stronger unit then those that would be utilized on a duty pistol. and we're not all "old and crotchety" either...lol. Nope, rifles get bounced around in the trunk or in locking racks with crap hitting them all day. The worst looking police guns I've seen are long guns. And I've seen plenty with micro red dots mounted. The exact same ones that would go on a pistol. I know one large holster manufacturer is working on duty holsters for red dot mounted pistols. Considering the rapid evolution in red dot sights over the last 10-15 years I'd be very surprised if there weren't electronic sights mounted on a decent number of duty guns by the time I retire. And certainly some CHL carry guns.
  8. I'd say the first receiver I had it in was not accurate with that barrel. The barrel itself is capable of really nice accuracy as shown after mounting it in a Seekins. I've heard other people have had really good luck with the first receiver I tried which is why I don't want to body bag them. Might be the lousy gunsmith (me) who put it together. Or just tolerances that did not work well with the two in combination. Whatever it was, I'm really happy with the combination now. I'm already looking for just the right barrel to put in the other Seekins receiver I have. I've been hearing a lot of good praise about these Seekin receivers. I might have to give one a shot. Are the iRMT-3 only compatible with their handguards? They have other receivers, but the iRMT-3 is only compatible with one style of their handguard. The receiver has a machined extension forward of where the receiver normally ends. The forend slides over that and screws in place. Really, really strong. But it's a lot easier to get the right torque on the barrel than with the long wrench you have to use a true monolithic rail.
  9. Chuck, I keep hearing about you doing full auto mag dumps with a G18... one handed... and keeping all rounds on target (not the upper A from a distance of 50 yards, but still...), and I don't doubt it. With all due respect (which is a significant amount), your ability to shoot the Kriss well doesn't surprise me, nor does it convince me that the Kriss is a great or desirable platform (considering possible applications and all the alternatives available). ac You definitely should not believe everything you hear. One handed bursts and two handed mag dumps, sure. One handed mag dumps? Sure with a 4 round mag maybe.
  10. I would not be a fan of Modified. It was probably the most expensive of all divisions. It required purpose built guns that were constrained only by what you could fit in the same box as a Standard gun. It also had Major/minor available. You ended up with a lot of people loading .40 major loads with a short ported barrel to the 170 PF minimum. It resulted in really violent guns that didn't have a lot of purpose outside Modified. It was an interesting technical excercise, but not one I'd want to try.
  11. Another thing to mention. If you're using a mini red dot and a head lamp you may be in trouble. Depending on the model of red dot it may wash out. For me I was using a Deltapoint on my SG last year and the red dot just didn't light up the way I wanted with the headlamp shining.
  12. I've been shooting them for years at the SHOT Show and have never seen one jam or have any issues. I've always been able to keep full auto bursts and groups on targets at a pretty decent range. I really like the idea of dropping 460 grains of lead in one spot in a very short period of time. I'm not really sure where the haters are coming from. Maybe I've just been lucky with the ones I've handled.

  14. Laser on pistol and rifle yes, shotgun no. I found I spent more time aiming the shotgun to get the laser on than I needed to. I'm running lasers for sure on the rifle and pistol though. I watched several guys smoke me at the CT match last year with them. My ego tells me it has to be the equipment so I'm getting some. Not sure what ill do when I still get my butt kicked this year.
  15. I've seen shooters drop guns from locked race holsters. In particular the CR Speed. Including one guy who was telling me it couldn't come out. He smacked the butt a couple times and the last smack the gun popped out. But I've also seen them come out of BladeTech holsters. The tension was backed way off and the holster was basically a bucket. I run a Safariland ALS for three gun and love it. When others were getting DQd at the Texas MG for dropped guns I didn't worry about mine (should have worried about my shotgun safety though).
  16. Nice try. I actually threw a different barrel in it and it seems nice and tight. No idea why but it seems like the combination of tolerances didn't work out for the first set. But okay on the second
  17. Bummer. I was really hoping to make this one. Tried to contact NRA to ask about details, but never could get a response. I was trying to avoid scheduling the Area 1 USPSA match on top of them. Looks like I managed to pick the winning weekend. Be nice if the NRA would have bothered to respond.
  18. So a couple years ago I bought one of the 18" Nordic barrels when they first came out. I had really high hopes for the barrel and bought a high end receiver to build the rifle on (Not a Seekins). I figured I was going to build myself a tackdriver of a gun. I was wrong. So very, very wrong. What I ended up with was a very expensive rifle that would hold about 4" at 100 yards. Tried different ammo, different optics, nothing worked. I was pissed. I knew when I started actually putting the gun together that something was a little off. For some reason the barrel felt a bit sloppy when inserted into the upper. Long story short, it sucked and I shelved it for the last couple years. Fast forward to now. I managed to pick up one of the Seekins iRMT-3 uppers and 15" handguard. This is the one with the triangular shaped handguard. Figured I'd give it a try with my problem child. As soon as I got the barrel bolted in I knew this was going to be better. Rock solid. Easily the most substantial feeling AR I have. Went together really easily. And there are some cool features I really like. But the real test was going to be the range. I put a US Optics 3-17 on it to try to take the optics out of the variable as a concern. The results were better than I could have hoped. Worst groups were just over an inch with Black Hills 68 gr reman. But I also had a couple boxes of Fiocchi Exacta Rifle Match 77 gr. I'm hesitant to talk about the Fiocchi because I really want to buy more. The Fiocchi group came in a 9/16" Did I mention I was shooting at 200 yards? From 4" at 100 to 9/16" at 200. All just by switching the receiver. I think I'm a fan.
  19. I agree with Mark, but I get really tired of hearing the argument "there's a division for that. It's called open." There is a huge difference in a gun that meets all of the other production rules, but has a slide mounted optic, and a fully functioning open gun. The gun alone is 3x - 4x more expensive. Brass is probably in that same range. Mags are at least twice as expensive. (Modified might have been even more expensive.) I've seen Production guns every bit as expensive as the entry level Open gun market. By the time you add aftermarket barrels, triggers, stippling, etc. I can rack the price up on a Production gun very quickly. Not to mention if I just start expensive. Is there that much difference between a Sphinx with a dot melted into the slide and a Glock 17 based Open gun that several local guys shoot? Sure the best open gun is better than the best Production Optics gun could be. Sure it's significantly more expensive. But that doesn't represent Open entirely. I see lots of people, normally at the local level, shooting with guns in Open that I wouldn't consider competitive. We've got a local guy that shoots a .357 Sig Glock in Open (why I don't know) and another that has been running a Glock 35 with a slide ride dot. He made master in Open with it. Other than the Dot it would be just fine in Production now. Just a thought, but rather than add Production Optics, why not add Open Lite.( or whatever name). Limited round count, minor only. If you want to use a CORE, fine. If you want to use a Steel Challenge gun, either single stack or just lightened to the point it's not really good with Major load, go for it. Factory ammo could be used easily instead of having to load. Magazines would be cheaper because you wouldn't need to buy the 35 round uber mag (crap, I wasn't supposed to talk about that in public). You could get in a lot cheaper than buying a full open gun, have your optics for bad eyes and the recoil and noise would be less than a full open gun as well. Works for seniors, juniors and heck the more I write the more I like it. Still not enough to carve up the divisions any more though.

Yeah, I wouldn't guarantee you speak for all Law Enforcement. We've kicked the idea around. Not for anything real soon but looking down the road. They get a bit more durable and with the capability of having backup iron sights I can see some value. Lights, lasers, red dots on rifles and shotguns. All stuff that 20-30 years ago (or this year for some agencies) laughed about with derision. I'm not saying I will be bolting one on to my Glock any time soon. But it's a possibility. That said I'm not in favor of splitting up the divisions any further.
  21. not true Taurus 608 is also an 8 shooter Is there a Taurus 608 without a ported barrel? Not sure, but even if there isn't a replacement barrel on a new gun is still cheaper than a 625.
  22. Hmmm, another accusation that the BOD is on the take. Lost count of how many unfounded and complete BS accusations that is this year. No wonder most of the AD elections are uncontested. I'm just shocked since normally at the BOD meeting we sit around and split up our bribes from the previous six months. Heck half the meeting is just spent rolling around on the floor in cash looking like Scrooge McDuck. If you think there is a manufacturer out there that cares enough about USPSA to bribe us, please let me know, we should at least talk to them about sponsoring Nationals. Until then take off the tinfoil hat.
  23. I didn't even think they had a GM level in IPSC. I thought they stopped at M.
