  1. I agree with Stealthy on the sparks and fire danger, and that is a perfectly good reason to ban them from your match.......but as the old proverb says...... don't pee down my leg and tell me it is rain! We have let people use anything they like at our local monthly match yes even M-855 and have done so since 2013. In that time I have had to re- plate only 2 of our flash targets due to cracking only. A couple have some divots, but at longer range they are just fine! And no we don't live in a fire danger setting like "Aridzona"
  2. Blah blah blah...... Steel this, jacketed that. Targets are consumable. Any match that thinks they are a one time purchase shouldn't be running matches. And who the hell cares if a flash target that is used at 2-3 hundred yards has a few craters?? BTW J.J. I have a lot of steel jacketed 308 military M-80 ball made by Winchester in the 60s and it hasn't even scuffed my personal MGM flash targets that I use for practice from 100 and out, out of a 22" M-14 barrel so I am calling B.S. on the 308 deal!!! As for M-193 being "over speed", that is the mil spec on 5.56x45mm out of a 20" barrel. You better just put a barrel length restriction on 5.56x45mm rifles that come to RM3G down to 16" and no longer.......My reloaded are in the same 3250 fps range out of a 20" barrel.... So you better ban reloads out of long barrels as well.......better yet, just tell competitors to use a "spec load" from whom ever you think won't hurt you precious steel. Maybe a 55 grain bullet at 2600 and NO 308 allowed???? Count me in!!!!!
  3. Yes you are doing something wrong. You move the rear sight in the direction you want the slug to go. In your case you need to move the rear sight to the right!
  4. Nice hot load you got there sparky!!
  5. Larry and I go WAY back! Hey amigo I will be down on Monday to see Benny, maybe we can meet up! Dumb luck???? Maybe, but I seem to get dumber every year! ?
  6. As shotguns get longer and longer, Carbines get lighter and shorter. The thinking is that a very light and short Carbine is soooo much easier to swing around and drive faster in quick, close bay type stages, completely subjective, but there it is! So now we are wanting longer shotguns???? Why??? Don't we use shotguns in close, tight bay type scenarios.....just like our Carbines???? All this is just plain silly!!! I have never won a match because my Carbine was "short and light"! EVER!!!! I have never lost a match because my shotgun barrel was short!!!! EVER!!!!! Matter of fact I still run a 21" barrel shotgun and the mag tube is only 1" past the muzzle..........and.....wait, wait, wait........I still only run 20" barreled ARs. Both of these set up are about the same weight, same length, and both win as long as I am doing my part, and I do my part often enough!
  7. Flatland Shooter has given you the best advice you will ever get!!!! It applies to everything!!! This should be in the top ten rules for life!!!!
  8. Pretty sure I alluded to the volume thing right at the very first part of my first post. The water glass analogy. So maybe it was forgotten, but it sure was mentioned.
  9. "IF" your not pulling the trigger for the second shot real fast and out running the somewhat slugish action of the Stoeger...... What is happening is the hammer is following the bolt down, as the hammer spring and plunger near the top of their stroke, they push up on the shell release tab ( thats the little arm that stick out of the top of the shell release tab by the trigger guard). This is what is releasing the next shell on to the lifter.......it is how ALL SHELLS are fed from the tube on anything that is a knock off of the Benelli system....Remington, Stoeger, A-5, CZ etc. That is what is happening....IF YOU AREN'T PULLING THE TRIGGER A SECOND TIME!!!! The WHY is simple.....if you aren't pulling the trigger.....your disconnector is working intermittently, or not at all. Probably cracked or rounding out and letting the hammer slip off.......like Stoeger are known to do. Some parts really should be made from good steel and propperly heat treated, but then stuff starts to cost more!
  10. I try not to choke at local matches, that way when I get to a big match I have practiced not choking. I seem to place higher by not choking!
  11. When I said "I still like it" I ment the original Red Neck Tactical scoring system! I agree with Stealthy on the shape of this "New" target and the old......not where we came from, and still not a new idea if you read that PDF I attached.
  12. This should look very familier!!! New scoring???? Looks like this 8 year old system Trapr and I were using a while ago. It was very simple, score the target A, B, C, D and the program did the rest. I still like it! I wonder if this "New Scoring System" has some Red Neck roots!!!
  13. I'm 58, and I can assure you irons aren't dead! I still place real iron sights in the top 10 at most matches I attend, and sometimes take home a win or two. Yes, the 3 of us were instrumental in allowing red dots into the tactical non magnified division/ limited. After a lot of testing we found that a red dot was in no way an advantage over regular aperture sights. A lot of guys had red dots on their carbines and no real place to play except in tac optics......which isn't that much of a disadvantage either!!! The thing killing limited/ tac non magnified is the piss poor target presentations at most large matches. As magnification goes up in these fancy variables, less and less thought is given to target presentation.....which frustrates the hell out of limited shooters!!! If you aren't going to take the time to make all targets visible at all times of the day to the naked eye.....DON'T OFFER THE DIVISION!!!!!! BTW I hate it when they lump red dots together with iron sights and then call it iron sight division. IT ISN'T!!!!!!! But it is limited or non magnified!!! Well at least I got the change to allow red dots in, I wonder how long it will take for me to get the name changed away from iron sight division to non magnified or limited???
  14. I shot two pigs under night vision while they were running. Great practice for lead and swing while looking through a green tinted "toilet paper tube." The first one was standing still, after he got hit the rest took off, the next two didn't get to the woods. One of the best stages I've shot yet this year!
  15. I've used a 21" barreled Benelli for EVERYTHING, Doves, Ducks, Pheasant, Bear, Pigs, Turkey, Ptarmagon, ........most of it moved, most of it was tasty!! You won't have a problem at all! Oh yeah Sporting Clays, Skeet, Trap, 5 stand......all worked great, just not as tasty!!
  16. Mike Pinto has one and is using it. I shot it and really liked it. It is fairly good to go out of the box. Very high quality gun! Breda actually was the one that came up with the inertia system as it pertains to shotguns. It is very accurate with slugs and runs like an M2. It doesn't have too many rounds through it yet, but it seems good! I will give you a little hint, many of the mods it comes with, came from one we moded up for them. I like them......except for the trigger guard, which needs some edges sanded off.
  17. M4 = inertia with a gas assist. Totally different design than straight inertia guns. Can't go back with " factory" chokes, because Benelli swages the barrel out to a larger diameter and then threads for chokes. In this case you have to go with a different system!! You can easily cut it to 19" and it will still run just fine. Any good gunsmith should be able to do the work and re-choke with either regular or thin wall chokes, depending on barrel thickness after it is cut. Man you got some real internet answers here!!!
  18. Bolt not going all the way into battery, or bouncing out is the cause. All sorts of "fixes" for it, just do a search or two.
  19. "LW Bolts because you guys think it is cool. " Well...no Pat! There are 3 reasons why we do bolt lightening. The first one I did, back in 1998, was in a quest to decrees muzzle rise!, but soon learned that it did a couple other things. Now I will tell you right up front.....without a doubt it is the most miss-understood modification EVER!!! It was NEVER meant to allow running lighter loads. That never once entered my mind! 3 dram 1 1/8 load is, was, and always has been the holy grail for shotguns! I don't care how they run! Break open, gas , inertia, pump....it doesn't matter! FEDERAL T116 Gold Medal!!! 1) It was done to reduce muzzle rise. I found that the rocking up and down on the Benelli was in part caused by that big old inertia bolt slamming back and forth in that nice light receiver. At least half the muzzle rise is caused by that B.O.I.B. (big old inertia bolt) Slamming to a stop on the back of the receiver which created a whole bunch of "secondary" muzzle rise. Less weight to stop = less muzzle flip! YES!!! recoil felt a little sharper, but the gun stayed much flatter! 2) The bolt closed faster without running a stiffer action spring which would implead the bolt AFTER the inertia spring does it thing! In so doing you could and SHOULD run a standard Benelli action spring without slowing the rearward travel, and at the same time accelerate a lighter mass forward making it harder to "outrun" the action. In short it operates just a bit faster! 3) With a lighter mass closing and rotating the bolt into battery, the gun has less propensity of bouncing back out of battery upon closing....(partially the problem of the dreaded Benelli "click"), given the spring constant! Is it necessary?? Hell no! Is it effective? Hell Yes! Think of it like Aluminum piston rods. In and of themselves not a huge advantage, but at the upper end of things it is worth a hundred extra R.P.M. and that might be the difference in winning! It is a racing part, but until you are at a fairly high level it won't do a thing for you!
  20. M.O.A. @ 50 yards would be a 1/2" group. Yeah Tony, your right.
  21. Well to be fair, the vast majority of grits aren't made with a pistol. It is only when the water is very recalcitrant to boil that a pistol comes into play. Now please realize this is........wait.......wait.......just stirring the pot! (are pistol grits served with butter?)
  22. Well....DAN....I like my Absolute with a twist......and pretty damn cold!
