  1. Well, I currently run an 1100. I shot and have been toying with a buddies 930. I ordered a 930 JM yesterday. BTW found it on GB, there was another one up last night from the same guy for 595 shipped. They can be had for cheaper, but I am impatient. A versa max, FN or Benelli are all almost twice that or more. I don't shoot three gun enough to warrant that expense, and I'm saving for another S_I. If the 930 doesn't work, mossberg seems to do good at rectifying the situation. An 1100 will at least be in the ball park price wise but you say money doesn't matter if that's true. ETA I have an EZ loader on mine and have cut it as recommended and can load every other shotgun faster, 930, Benelli, FN..I was toying with the idea of installing the longer factor button for their tactical but I think the Remington is going to always give a bit with that button over a one piece lifter. The above is worth what you paid for it....
  2. I don't have one sitting in front of me, but it is written (really small) on the choke tubes themselves. THere are also grooves in the to tell them apart, this won't be correct, but it's like 2 lines for full, 1 for modified and none for IMP CYL IIRC. You may need a magnifying glass to read it or rub the letters with some chalk to get the contrast if you need to.
  3. Ouch on that set screw in the back of the trigger guard!! Once it's setup to stop over travel, it does not stick out. +1 I have done two so far and they are definately buried into the trigger guard when they are set. ENSURE FIREARM IS UNLOADED! Then I put a drop of blue locktite on it as it stuck out the back then screwed it in until it touched the trigger (well almost). Then back the screw out while holding the trigger until the hammer falls then about another third of a turn and you should be good to go. It doesn't take any weight off, but if feels way better. I guess you can skip the locktite, but if you ever need to move/remove it a minute with a soldering iron is no big deal and way better than it locking up the trigger in a match.
  4. A buddy of mine picked up the 22" JM a couple weeks ago and he has been having problems. He is going to call Mossberg tomorrow (they are closed today?) I just wanted to see if anyone else has had the same issues and what the problem may be. He has had a few stuck shells (6or7) the extractor is actually ripping the rim of the shell and we have to use a rod to pop the spent shell out. I tried honing the chamber a bit, but still the same problem. This is with both Winchester and Federal ammo, but both have the aluminum (silver) base. Other problem is that a few times, the lifter has gotten stuck in the up postition over the shell latch on the ejection port side. I am kind of thinking this may be an issue with tolerance stacking or something. His brother and father both have 930s, another JM and one we built up, neither have had these problems. He is up to about 250 rounds so far. Any ideas? I don't want to scare anybody away from these, I will still be buying one as soon as I find one... E.T.A. My buddy called Mossberg, they are sending him a shipping label...
  5. I started about 10 in SASS competitions. I now have a son but it will be a few years before we start thinking about competitions but I have talked with my dad about it some. Here are some of my thoughts: -Get him a couple extra magazines and at least one extra pouch when you can. He will like having more stuff on his belt most likely, even if he shoots limited minor. -Let him decide on a division, production or L Minor especially after his first match. If he hasn't brought it up he probably won't care. -Encourage him to help score and tape, it will make the time go faster. But you may want to let him get away with a little wandering for a while. Remember your attention span when you were ten, mine wasn't good. -don't push him too hard other than for safety, he will probably want to hose, he will come around...maybe... -Remember something else, he will cherish your time together more than you can understand. I just shot a match with my dad again a couple weeks ago that makes 25 years of shooting matches together it's still some of my best memories growing up.
  6. Was there anything in the box that said not to dryfire? They should replace it even if its so you can sell it. I wonder if there is something wrong with your slide inside the striker tunnel. This is bumming me out, I just ordered mine in .40 this morning. An option is to run a broken one while dry firing...PITA maybe but just a thought.
  7. 180 Hydra shock was 173PF IIRC at 2010 Nationals. That was out of a factory 5" STI. 165 Gold dot is supposed to be about the same I think. Winchester White box 165 states 1060 so about 175, but 40 numbers are usually out of a 4" test barrel. "There was one 165gr .40 factory ammo that chronoed at 164, but the name escapes me. It comes in a black and gold box." I think Blazer brass stated velocity is 1040 so out of a slow barrel on a cold or hot day who knows, maybe a light batch? No matter what I would chrono before a major no matter what I was using.
  8. Great, now that they are legal, they are no longer listed on the Glock website. I saw some on gunbroker though. Anybody got the scoop?
  9. I agree on the steel. We started over a year ago, it was a decent investment for the gun club, but so far it has been the highest grossing match that is run there. We average about 22 shooters for steel, and USPSA is about 18. Steel is a much more freindly sprot to newcomers than USPSA IMO. Little or no movement and the stages are less intimidating. My initial thought was to run SCSA to help bring new shooters to USPSA, that has been a limited success but we are seeing lots of new shooters. BTW, I haven't shot this much 22LR since I was a kid! This topic has been covered a few times here before and it seemed the consencus was a local club could/should allow it for junior shooters (really junior) and for the steel just count the hits. When my son is old enough, I will try to talk to the USPSA director about the same thing. now I just have to find a holster an mag pouches. Or maybe a single stack conversion, hmmmm.....
  10. I guess this fits in to the "Sevigny is leaving Glock" thread...
  11. I saw a Vodka bottle that was shaped like an AK a while back...sounds like you could start a pretty neat collection.
  12. LOL, yeah I am out of ports MOST of the time. I do not see any daylight and brought this up the last time I sent in the slide for replacement and still no joy. Isn't that something they should check on installation anyway? ETA, when I did the install, it was very tight, I had to take off quite a bit to get it to fit. I also took some off of the bottom of the rear of the sight thinking that was the problem but there was still contact.
  13. OK, I bought an STI Tactical a few years ago, I probably have about 20k ish through it now. I just broke my 4th front sight! It's a fiber optic sight (the sight itself is breaking, not the FO) from a major supporter of our sport. The first time it broke was after I had about 7k through it, I sent the slide off and had it replaced. Second time it broke was just before Nationals last year, like 4 days before I left so I had them next day me a new one and installed it myself, about 3K later that one broke, so i sent the slide in again to have it replaced. It broke again the other day, maybe 5k through it (I haven't gotten much trigger time this year). What the consensus, why is this happening? Do I send it back to the same place, again, or try a different brand? The company is not charging me for the sights, but shipping is getting crazy, and I am sick of this happening. Thanks
  14. If you can reload a SS you can reload anything! Other than that, the 8 round thing does force you to make each shot count, but it's that not much over L-10 or production.
  15. There are no markings. I think it's an 80% finished frame. I can't believe there are still no ideas. If I took some measurements for him would that help at all?
  16. I don't know how you measured, but there is more to trigger reach than just finger length. I just measured my finger and it's about 3" even. I use a short trigger on my STI widebody and it's still barely there. I use short triggers and thin grips on my single stacks, and like the small grip on the M&P and XDM. I also use a small backstrap on the HK P2000. I would say whater your preference is, use that. Something else to keep in mind is that you need to ensure that your strong hand grip is consistent in its placement.
  17. My dad used to tell me about the pendulum, kinda funny. I can't imagine the PF disparity for big matches! From one chrono to another ypu can see a disparity of up to a couple PF points. I couldn't imagine the margine of error. Most of us load at least 5 or 6 above minimum just to be sure for something like that I would go back to running 180 plus! I think the current PF is done cause its easy, speed in how a chrono measures, times weight in how we weigh, no conversions, no real formulas for us less than rocket surgeons out there. Looking at the ballictics gel pic, kinda funny you never see the load I carry at work, a 155 going about 1300! Gotta love 200PF in a plastic gun!
  18. What kind of accuracy are you looking for? If you are shooting a stock Sig, I will assume "acceptable" for IDPA/USPSA. It has already been said here, velocity numbers aren't as important as your consistency or in Chrono terms, SD (standard deviation). As usual, G-man brought up a great point, OAL will probably make a bigger difference than velocity. And like Joe stated, try different bullets, again much more important to accuracy, MGs are great, but maybe your gun just doesn't like 'em. Oh, and +1 on getting rid of the mixed headstamp brass, and use it for practice. Just my $.02 ETA: I can't spell.
  19. Most people say the 45 is what the 1911 was built for and it's much harder to get one to run in 40. As for 2011's I don't really see why there would be any difference. As for hollowpoints, my STI Tactical (in 40) will run just about any factory ammo. Federal 155s, Winchester Ranger 180s, hydra shock 180s, anything so far. Although most STI 40s seem to like long ammo, I tried to pull and reload some Federal 155 HPs and it didn't like the ones I tried loading a little longer. I don't think I can find my data, but loaded to factory length they ran fine. Just my experience with one STI. Others that have more experience will have more to add.
  20. Shot steel yeasterday, what a blast! Noticed something after the match messing around. My transitions from a tight shot to an easy shot is slow. Fast to slow is about where it should be, fasft to fast is good, but I was going slow to the easy target. Maybe I am looking for too much of a follow through after the shot. Maybe it was just me that day, but something I need to look into. Had a pretty good match, pulled out the old single stack since my front sight broke on the STI, AGAIN. I had a couple of pretty good runs on a couple stages, nice to see some runs under 3 but pushed a little too hard on Outer Limits trying to make up for my SLOW draw. I seem to be getting used to the .22 wierd shooting a light gun with no recoil hahaha.
  21. IIRC the Blade Tech does cover the gun to the muzzle. Stop by tonight and we can check, and maybe find a fix for this weekend. Like borrowing a buddy's holster
  22. Jr, Glad you got them on OK and that you like them. J
  23. Kinda funny the Desert Eagle has come up a few times here. When I was like 12 the first RoboCop came out and my Dad and I went to see it in the theater (maybe that is what's wrong with me ). In one of the first scenes ED209 smokes that guy while he had a nickel Desert Eagle. Some guy gets blown to bits with twin 50s and my comment was, "Dad what gun was that!?" He told me, and I said "I want one!" So I ordered one for my 21st birthday present for myself. It took me 18 months to save for it, and after I got it, it took another month to be able to afford components to reload! Sold it to finance my Limited gun...But it sure was neat to shoot.
  24. Thanks Greg! Hope Jesse's training is going well. Hope to see you next match, and happy new year! Shot El Prez yesterday for the cassifier and the results were: 47 points, -20 for penalties in 5.16 for a HF of 5.2326 BTW shooting an extra shot in virginia count hurts BAD! I was way off pace, and just not feeling it all day. I still had a blast, our MD came up with some interesting stages, more "friendly" to the low cap shooters. Going to start a better routine now that I will have more time to shoot. My goal is to get 2 live fire sessions per week, but up my dryfire to 3-4 times per week for a while, maybe 20 minutes per, and see how it goes. I need to get better on some fundamentals, getting my first shots off sooner and get more confident with SOTM.
  25. Well have shot all 8 stages from the World SCSA match over the last couple months/matches. Being the MD is kind of a pain, I can't imagine doing it for the USPSA every month as well, I need to start helping our MD more. Anyway, shooting steel has taught me a couple things. It has made me realize that although I have improved my movement and reloads a lot, my stand and shoot stuff is now lacking more comparitively speaking. It has also showed me that even though I thought I was calling a lot of my shots, I am still not being absolutely patient on all shots. I think I am about .01 seconds off on some shots. Oh, and my draw sucks! For USPSA .1-.2 seconds on a draw is nothing. In steel, with 5 draws per stage it can hurt. Oh, and the STI does NOT like Speer brass!
